Maya needs tcsh, csh or sh installed. Many linuxes come with only bash installed.

did you make sure you sourced your bashrc file after adding that to it?

the maya bin and Render bin are linked (symbolic) to /usr/local/bin by default. But you can try running both using the complete path, usually:

try running one of those (if you're using maya8, then /usr/aw/maya8.5..)
running it from bash here.

If they work, check that you have the symbolic links:
ls -l /usr/local/bin (you'll see a string with "maya -> /usr/blahblah" in most cases).

which distro you're using?

Hey Thx eddgarpv!

The link i had in /usr/local/bin were broken in fact pointing on /autodesk/maya8.5/bin instead of /usr/autodesk/maya8.5/bin.
You make my day :)

Sounds like your manually installing the file instead of using the rpm(ubuntu or some other non rpm distribution). Personally I install RPM support and just use the flag "--nodeps", so you get all the symbolic links setup, but it doesn't bitch about dependancies that you actually have installed because it is looking in the wrong place for them.
