I will, I will, let me first change this diaper.
Damn kid thinks her dad is having fun doing it, so she keeps producing poop! :scream::scream:

That was hysterical.

Great to see you joining in Marlow, good luck with the challenge and the diapers.

Finally found some time to put some ideas on "paper". Sorry for the poor quality...
I try not to go the humorous road with this challenge, which is kind of hard, because the funny ideas keep pushing away the serious ones :D

First idea I'd like to explore is strange behaviour by the weather (due to the changing environment perhaps).
Like for example snow in Africa...

Theresa, Rudy, Carlos, Goro, Adrian, Michael, Mathias, Steven, thanks guys for the encouragements and cheers.

07-01-2007, 09:55 PM
The second perspective is great! I love the concept too, it's suitably strange, yet believable. You go, stickman!

07-14-2007, 03:17 PM (

new idea.

Prince Charming was falling for the charms of the Dragon and has totally forgotten about the princess. As if he was under some kind of spell...

07-14-2007, 03:30 PM
I like the concept, but it's hard to derive the story from your sketch- it looks like he's just leaving his dragon steed to go get her.

The dragon reminds me of the one from Shrek...hehe...handy ref!? I still prefer the 'snow in africa' idea though, it's wonderful!

07-14-2007, 03:43 PM
Haha.. ok thanks!
Guess I'll have to travel the difficult road :D

07-14-2007, 04:05 PM
I'll push you all the way along! That's what challenge buddies are for, remember! :D

Hope you're working on it as we speak...unless you have more concepts up your sleeve?

07-14-2007, 05:59 PM
I like you're second concept a lot, it has the strange behaviour of the weather, and the unpredictably strange behaviour of the people reacting to it, they realy must think they angered the gods.

Steve 8)

07-14-2007, 10:56 PM
hey art2!!
I think I also prefered the first concept more, though it could still be good to see some more ideas if you can find them between diaper and diaper (mmm maybe that's not the best place to look for inspiration)
about the first concept, I love both sketches, so as an idea maybe you could mix them and include the top one as part of the background of the bottom one...

best luck, Marlon!!

09-08-2007, 01:07 PM (

Ok here's another idea...
Think I'm going to stick with this one, cos I don't have time to come up with another :D

The idea is inspired by the Final Fantasy games. One of the characters is under the influence of "Confuse", a spell that causes the character to randomly attack his allies.
Designs are of course not final, just trying things out. I would like to keep a bit of FF design style feel to it, if that's possible...
Also the angle is low, because it reminds me of the game play screen.

09-09-2007, 09:53 PM (

Not much done really. Resized the canvas and some playing around.

09-10-2007, 06:23 AM
Hey Marlon, nice sketches and cool idea !! I love FF games and hate "confuse" spell .. hahahaha :D The point of view of your sketch is much similar to the game, cool mate! Best of luck and looking forward for more updates!

09-10-2007, 10:42 AM
haha i like the idea because i love FF :)

but how do you make it clear that she is attacking a party member ?

09-10-2007, 05:54 PM
Ferx, thanks buddy! I hate the confuse spell too, haha, I also hate the spell that turns you into a frog... :D

Vahn, the party members will have similar colours to some parts of their clothes.
And the one under the spell will have some aura and/or magic sign that she shares with the boss creature. Hope that will make things a bit clear :)

09-11-2007, 08:21 PM (

Another small update.
Some creature idea, vicious plant monster :D Hope it doesn't look too familiar, if so let me know!
Also worked on the composition a bit.

09-14-2007, 11:56 AM
Your use of colour has drawn me right into this thread.
and this wip gives a nice glimpse of your thought-processes and priorities... I'm going to hang around see what i can discover, a i'm nowhere near as confident as you are with colour

09-14-2007, 02:48 PM (

Here's a little step closer to the final :D
I decided to put the Veggie Monster in front of a cave/dungeon exit. So our heroes have to defeat it in order to get to the next.. err, save point :)

Harris, thank you. Colour can be a nightmare, and as in a real nightmare you can take control :)
I just started with blue and red, because I want to establish a clear foreground and background. These two colours will act as a sort of foundation for the other colours. There is chance that the blue and red will be toned down in the end, we'll see.

Oh yeah, you can ask my friends... my pics can be eye hurting, because of my use of colour... hahaha... oh man.. :(

09-15-2007, 02:08 PM (

some colouring...

09-15-2007, 04:39 PM
Hey Marlon

nice sketchs..good luck mate ;)

09-16-2007, 08:04 PM (

more colouring and some design ideas...

Hey Ahmed, thanks for the visit buddy!

09-19-2007, 05:11 PM
For someone who isn't really familiar with the Final Fantasy games this is almost impossible to figure out. Maybe you should think about making her look like she is under the spell, you know...with some fancy effects and a 'confused' face expression. And maybe you should also show the guy's face who gets hit by her, like he wasn't expecting it. And to be honest that monster doesn't look that dangerous. It looks more like a huge flower :) It needs more action. The Composition and the colors are nice though... Just tried to help a bit. Good luck

09-19-2007, 05:39 PM
Hey sadunkal, no offense taken ;) Thanks for the comments.
I am planning to add some spell effects later on, when I'm tightning things up and detailing.
You will see a portion of the guys face, maybe more from the side, thanks for pointing that out. But a full expression would be hard I think, because they're all facing the Monster. If I would show his full face he would be facing the monster with his back.
I wanted to create a monster that is fun looking, maybe a bit comical, but that can be a pain to fight against. It's just an ode to all those funny monsters you meet in FF games, like the Cactuar, Bomb or Malboro. Maybe I'll add some teeth :) And yeah, it's a plant :D

09-30-2007, 08:22 AM (

Here's the WIP on some of the characters.

I tried to finalize the designs and tidy things up.

10-01-2007, 11:08 PM
Looking great Art2, i love the way you handle colour, the plant monster is classic.

10-06-2007, 08:52 PM (

Some progress, still a lot of work to be done.

Handlebar thanks, glad you like the monster! :)

10-06-2007, 09:29 PM
Confuse spells suck and you, you rock!
Nice image and really like your way of painting very painterly...

10-06-2007, 09:33 PM
cool characters Marlon!

10-08-2007, 04:01 AM
Man, I like your style! keep it up the great work:thumbsup:

10-13-2007, 03:35 PM (

Worked on the girls a bit more. I changed the leg of the little wizard girl.
I'll work on the dude next.

Remko, Bobby, Vinicius, thanks very much guys for the kind words!

I hope I finish in time...

10-16-2007, 06:04 AM
Holy frack bro! That is amazing. Gonna keep track of your progress now. Beats watching the tv that's a holdover from the war. You know...the...war... ;)

10-17-2007, 07:01 PM (

I mainly worked on the guy. Also some minor adjustments on the girls.

Sis, in my war there was no tv... :D

10-17-2007, 08:24 PM
I really dig your style, the design reminds a bit to Captain Future which is a good thing imo^^
clean and stylish, great work

10-19-2007, 09:35 PM
This is looking really great Marlon!!Really cool color pallette too!

10-20-2007, 11:16 AM
Sweet, love all of it, the colors are nice, so is the composition.
And the idea is fun, too! :D
Keep going!

10-24-2007, 11:30 AM (

I worked on the guy a bit more.
Experimented with ideas for the magic. I will experiment some more, but I also don't want to over do it with the Magic symbols/effects. I feel that it could make the image become crowded too fast. Probably I will add some magic symbols near the plant's right arm in the background. It's supposed to have two talon like arms and two magic wielding arms.
I'm going to work on the Plant monster next.

guterrez, Captain Future... name rings a bell.. that's like 20 years ago? LOL Thanks man! Hey, I really dig your entry too.

Thanks Kei, Lorenz! I'm happy you guys like it!

10-24-2007, 06:18 PM
looking great Marlon! the plant monster face looks funny... and the magic effects that you just added help to understand what is happening to those of us who have never played FF...
maybe you could point the magic effect coming out of the monster's arm more to the girl's forehead instead of to her belly...

10-24-2007, 08:49 PM
I just eagerly await more!!:bounce:

10-27-2007, 08:56 AM (

I've done some work on the Plant monster, still need some work. Also did some minor tweaks on the girls.

This one is going to be close. Time is not my friend..

Hey Fernando, muchos gracias my friend! I pointed it more towards her head.

Hiun, thanks man! Hope I can make your wait worthwhile.

10-27-2007, 10:29 PM (

Got to hurry, tomorrow will be the last day I can spend time on this :(

Next tidying up the background...

10-27-2007, 10:32 PM
Woww lovely clean pic man!!great work.Hope you' ll make it in time(which isn't really my friend also, hehe).

10-28-2007, 11:34 PM (

Still not finished, guess I have to spend some more time on this tomorrow.

Remko, oh I'm going to make it alright, it will be close. Something like uploading the pic 5 minutes before the deadline :D

10-28-2007, 11:43 PM
Haha ok Marlon, Gotta a feeling we'll be side by side on the ftp tomorrow.Amazing pic man!!!, love it!MAybe some more secondary colors in their suites, like green or bleu,etc.. could be cool, although your actual colorscheme really works well ofcourse.Gogo buddy

11-01-2007, 04:28 PM
Hey, thanks man. Yours is looking fantastic too. Very well detailed and you can clearly get a feel for the action in the scene. I love the colors too! I admire all the work you've put into this piece and it certainly shows.

11-08-2007, 05:05 AM
the entire comp looks very unique! .. especially with all the warm tones and :p the ivory outfits are really cool! me eager to see the final showdown! good luck dude!

11-11-2007, 12:12 PM (

Time for some updates! :D

I did a bit more detailing on the monster. Shortened the front girl's legs :)
I did most of the work on my laptop and now that I've my workstation back with my Dell flat screen, I felt some more adjustments needed to be made.I did another highlight pass, especially on the characters. I desaturated the image a tiny bit, adjusted the contrast on individual parts.
Next will be work on more details, adding speed and glows. Rim light on the monster is a place holder, need to check that out too.

Remko, I added some light blue LED's in their suits, looks good I think. Thanks mate!

JuanPablo, thank you! I'm glad the action is clear. I hope it will be even more clearer with the next update.

nwiz25, thanks man! The colour scheme of the outfits is inspired by the colours of the main characters of FFX and a bit of what I've seen in FFXIII. Especially the yellow. Glad the comp is working for you.

11-14-2007, 01:25 PM (

One step closer to the final...

Still some things to do, but I think I'm almost there.

11-14-2007, 07:15 PM
Hi Marlon!
I think that with your last updates now the scene is full of action, everything seems to be moving, which is great, I like the effect of the moving blue leds...
cmon mate, you are almost there! (I would say you are already there, but if you say you can see things to fix, probably the final version will be even better...)
go go go Art2!! :bounce:

11-15-2007, 06:35 AM
Ah... those confusion spells, hate them, but you made a good thing out of a mid-battle bother! It is funny and very dynamic and, to the poor wizard girl, a tragedy!

I like a lot your sharp, thin-outlined style, The final will be great because it is already!

11-15-2007, 06:52 AM
thanks for the post man! yup, workin on the story....

I like the blue lights you've added on the piece, it really gives a hint into the movement and such. And the red fog at the top also helps the composition. nice work man! good luck!

11-15-2007, 08:32 AM
Hey Marlon, really great image!! I like a lot your monster plant design, really cool mate!! and the outfit for the party members are really great !! And you achive an awesome dynamic composition!! I cant wait to see the confuse final blast! :D Cheers mate!!

11-15-2007, 04:55 PM (

Here's the final, yay!

Story will come later I have to go to this company dinner... and I'm already late, and I still need to upload the final tiff too, yikes!

Thank you for the kind words guys! I will reply soon, I have to hurry now... :argh::argh:

Here's a bigger version.

Dice, gun slinger and master swordsman, Blossom, the Chakram wielding martial artist and Britt, the little white wizard girl from Brann. Three individuals, from three different continents, brought together by fate and Princess Ilura, to save the Kingdom of Feq, their own homelands, Heaven and the World.

In their quest to find the Golden Igna Horn, the three “Friends of Ilura” encountered many hundreds of monsters and demons.
Some were big, others were small. Some were deceivingly beautiful and others were hideously looking. Some were beautifully coloured, while others were as black as the night. But all of them were evil and out to kill them. It was in their nature, the reason why they were created. To stop the “Friends of Ilura”.

One of their memorable encounters was with a Haqnecoth Fauna. An enchanted mud rose, turned into a carnivorous evil, smelly plant monster. The four tentacles of the creature were moving fast, attacking the heroes from all sides. It's big mouth grinning and chanting black magic spells, like Gom's Barrier and Illugg's Wall.

Britt, the wizard girl, managed to hold back most of the monster's attacks with her defensive magic, but the fast moving tentacles were just too hard for her friends to counter. While moving in from the right with one of it's talon like tentacle, the creature distracted Blossom and hit her with it's magic tentacle. Blossom's eyes turned white and suddenly she attacked Dice with her Chakram, knocking him out with one blow. Britt was shocked, Blossom was under the confuse spell. A quick look in her pouch showed her that she was out of Sali leaves, which could counter the effect.

Britt realized that she had to make some difficult decisions.
Revive Dice, which will consume most of her remaining magic reserve, leaving her defenceless.
Or strengthen her defence to last a bit longer so she can face two strong opponents... she still has two opportunities to summon both Hecatha and Fifnir.

this is so cool dude. you really captured the rpg feel to it.
great job
