go maja! :)

Okay! Here we go =)
This is my first sketch.
Do you remember the Movie Dogma, when they say: "Even God has a sence of humor, after all he envented platypuss." ?
This is my interpretation of strange behaviour. Right beside the Creation Machine =)
I'll have to work on the composition a lot. But just so you get the initial idea =)
07-10-2007, 04:46 PM
Working on the composition...
I'm trying to make something dynamic... and it's not really working yet... =P
Opened for suggestions...
07-10-2007, 06:12 PM
LOL . . . I remember that movie.
Maybe show him in the processof creating him. Like holding the duck beak right above the tank about to drop it in.
Another way to may it dynamic is to show the others' faces through the glass of the tank, slightly distorted by the glass.
Giving it a fish eye perspective might give you the effect you're looking for.
Just some thoughts ^_^
07-10-2007, 09:05 PM
Wow, Lindsey! This is a good idea!
The fish-eye would look great! Since I'm trying to show the Holy gang having the time of their lives and laughing out loud at the new creation...
... haven't done it before... We'll see what I can do =)
07-10-2007, 09:24 PM
Just saw your concepts , great, hehe i love the last one :) really interesting theme :D
but i think you need to work a bit on their composition))
Good Luck :)
07-20-2007, 03:17 PM
Hmm... this could work... I added archangel Gabriel to the scene...
God has the remote control in his hands to indicate who exactly is the creator of the strange creature.
Don't know about St. Peter yet... Maybe he will be removed...
There will be a lot of angels laughing in the sky as well.
Also trying to give the animal a more curious look.
Comments are welcome =)
What do you think...?
07-20-2007, 06:17 PM
I actually think I like the first sketch better. The new ones seem a bit crowded. I know you want show the platypus more. I think the interesting part for me would be the creation machine itself, and how you make it look. Just my thoughts cool work. :)
07-20-2007, 09:05 PM
Started working in grayscale to get the lighting right...
Also have to work more on the anatomy... Gabriel is waay of =)
07-21-2007, 02:21 AM
some nice drawing - definitey has a strange mood about it. Good luck!
07-23-2007, 02:45 PM
I like story behind this, i will watch this tread.
08-01-2007, 02:31 PM
Working on Gabriel... Just trying to get the expresion right... Don't even know how to make God look better... it's going to be pretty hard...
Back to the drawing bord =)
08-01-2007, 09:31 PM
Working on God.
He looks much better now... But I have to tweek the anatomy a bit more... The torso isn't exactly working yet...
Also added some zoom-ups for you to see =)
08-05-2007, 05:04 PM
I think I'm getting there slowly =)
Added St. Peter in the back and made a bunch of detail all over.
Now would be a good time to finish the machine and the remote-controle... but I don't really know how to go about it.... And then I also have to finish the background... have to learn that too...
Any suggestions are most welcome!

Aww So sorry I haven't post! it took me forever...
You're doing a great work here!! I love the expressions specially Gabriel! and i like a lot to see your process on them:thumbsup:
Poor platypus he's made fun on from the very start... even him has a great expression, I think, but you could raise him a little so he would be more in the center of the machine's glass tube, like in your early sketches. some of that space looks a little empty.
The rest, great fun!! Keep it coming!
08-06-2007, 08:39 PM
Thank you, Gabriel! Your comment means a lot =)
You are right, the platypus did need raising up. It looks better now...
I will probably tweek a lot of things after I color the whole thing... right now I'm just trying to concentrate on the illustration as a whole. There are still some major bits missing which I have to finish first though....
I'll post again once I fill these in...
08-07-2007, 08:53 AM
haha! great idea, man the platypus is a funny creature isn't it ;)
though I think the angel's arm should not be covering up the "creation machine" sign as until i saw your early concepts i didnt know what it was saying.
08-08-2007, 09:14 PM
OK... so, I put in the background, the animal was raised a bit and I started working on the machine... it's not good yet.... =P
Anyways, once I'll have that done roughly I'll start puting in color and finish the details from there =)
Hey Sovica, great idea and really nice sketch ! I think perhaps the sun over Gabriel lighting with a ray over the machine can be a nice touch, only a comment :)
Great work! and looking forward for more updates!
08-11-2007, 01:47 PM
Here's the first colored preview... Now it's time to sinchronise everithing together...
Still much to do...
08-12-2007, 12:17 PM
i love the way ur concept flows in a spiral direction! love the colours too! .. me totally agree with Ferx .. do add those sun rays! .. waiting to c more from ya :p ..
good luck my friend!
08-16-2007, 12:43 PM
The progres is slow...
There are more and more things that need to be touched up and I don't quite know if the illustration works as a whole (colorwise)...?
The robe of God is giving me much trouble... no mater how I draw the wrinkles it doesn't quite look real...
If you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears...
08-16-2007, 12:56 PM
Really cool idea and nice pic man!TAke care of the background to place it a bit further from us, by using blur or desaturate the colors.Right now it still seems a bit flat..Looking forward for the rest!Sun rays !!!LOLLL
08-17-2007, 07:29 AM
I really appreciate all the helpful critiques and comments!
The illustration is coming along fine... especially now that Ninja has tought me how to tweek color on the entire picture and is becomming livelier by the minute... it's very hard to get it just right especially because Photoshop shows so much diferent colors than the internet =/
Layer01: I know the sign on the machine is not that much visible. But I'm thinking that's ok. In the end it should be obvious from the title what's going on (Even God has a sens of humor).
Ferx: The sun-rays were a good idea. Thank you =)
Nwiz25: Thanks for the nice words =)
OKMER: I'm taking care of the background... and it's looking much better now. Thanks for the hint!
08-17-2007, 05:21 PM
Okay, this is practically the finished version...
I have to correct the hands of God and I think I overdid the background... it's sticking forward too much...
There will probably be a bit more of blue in the final illustration... but, as I said, it's hard to get it just right...
08-17-2007, 08:08 PM
This is comeing out really nicely. I like the colors, and the lower drapery of the angel especially. Don't know whether you're still unhappy with God's robes, but one of the best ways to deal with problems like that is by creating your own reference. That's right: find a bathrobe, or some sheets, or any kind of materil that would drape the way you want his cloth to, dress someone in it, and sketch away. Or take photos. For my entry, I have photos of my wife or I posed as at least half of the characters, which serves as a great reference for hand poses, faces, clothing drapery, etcetera.
One thing I'd add about the rest of the piece is that it's a bit empty. What about some angels flying in the background, off in the distance, like you'd put in birds in a landscape painting? Just an idea...
Anyhow, good luck!
08-18-2007, 06:28 AM
Wow you're going fast! And is working well too!! Cheers!
But I have to agree with you... You overdid the background, I'd say you could look around for more reference on 'Heavenly' clouds.... you know, fluffier and very luminescent, In bolder masses maybe and, i think, keeping the pastel palette of your previous postings. You can add a little pink, avoid grays (and be careful your blue and yellow hues don't mix into green) and working the rays from the sun a bit, that will do! You're doing a great job and is getting better every time, so keep it up!
08-18-2007, 11:13 AM
Walrus: ... you know what? I have no idea why I haven't thought of that =) usually when I don't know how to make something I do make my own reference... Silly actually =)
Oh, and about those angels? That was actually the initial idea. They should be lying on the clowds laughing and pointing fingers at the platypus... but then I let it go. I got concerned becaus they were so little and I thought they didn't bring anything useful to the illustration... Also it means a day less of work =D
...But you're right, it will probably bring the whole thing together... I'll try it =)
Gabriel: hmm... yeah... it's true... I should do the sky better too... But, seriously, no matter how I try to fix it, it never looks good enough... Anyways, you have given me some very useful advice, so I'll see what I can do... =)
Thanks guys for your time! The comments really open my eyes, so that I can look at the illustration with fresh ideas =)
Drop in again!

Hey,picture is visually very strong and the characters are modeled gread, especially angels and St. Peater expressions (though i do not love Dogma Movia idea alot).
I very much like grayscaled stage, and first colour stage (when the colour was brighter, less dark an magenta). As it looks now, somehow I expect much more details and precision, and with brighter colours it is approved by the eye.
Clouds are drawing too much attention (on grayscale sketch it was ok!), and they are not polished as they must be in my opinion...You could make them milder, and put some mist on the ground emanating from the ground...
Other than that, it amazes how skilled have you interpreted baroque painting style of Catholic tradition...!
09-13-2007, 08:01 PM
Here I am again!
Been to Romania and Barcelona. Had a wonderful time, but it's time to work again =)
So, I'm still working on the background... it's giving me quite some trouble... but I think it's getting better.
Also trying to get the whole mood together by getting rid of as much green as possible.
Any crits are most appreciated!
09-13-2007, 10:41 PM
wow! Much better!! the clouds are pushed way back now, and the sun rays help a lot with that.
Now that you went for a more amber look (I like it), you might want to add some shines where the light falls on the characters and help create more contrast, Right now there's maybe no white in the image at all so you can use it to bring up any part that needs it, Peter's head has more light on it looks better and stands up more than god in the front. Also I noticed that the wings tend to become transparent and you can actually see Peter's shoulder through them, I don't know if you meant it that way. Just details.
09-15-2007, 12:55 PM
Hah... that's funny... I've been trying to get rid of the white so bad, I completely erased it from the picture... I fixed this and, you were right, it looks better.
I ment for the wings to be a bit transparent, to somehow emphasize the spiritual nature of the angel, but I guess it's not necesary... so I made them solid again...
And now I'm drawing some angels in the background to see if that could work...
Thanks for the help Gabriel, you always find something good to mend =)
The atmosphere is just amaizing... you're progressing in every way! I can't wait to see this one finished!
09-27-2007, 04:38 AM
this is turning out to be really cool! :D :p
10-12-2007, 09:52 AM
Alright, this is it.
I haven't changed much since the last one. Now that I study in Krakow, there just isn't a lot of time any more...
So, I hope you enjoy my illustration.
The title now should say it all, but for the sceptics:
God must have a keen sense of humor. Afterall, he created platypus =)
