06 June 2007, 07:09 AM
Hi everybody, I'm here too.
It's good to see so many talented people around. I hope to be able to finish this one. Well, four whole months is enough, maybe...
Ok, this is one of my very first sketches, the story behind is a bit complicated. Imagine we are in a sort of galactic tavern lie the one in Star Wars. We have a Poker game, a whole bunch of the worst, deadliest and freakiest scum of the galaxy is playing and outrageously losing in front of a kind of "space supernerd", for example Jimbo the bunny or something like that. Jimbo is stupid enough to cheat on this people. The moment I want to depict is that special moment when Jimbo has just won another round and everybody can see on the back window's reflection Jimbo holding two aces behind his ears. That moment when everybody is starting to get up reaching for their guns, that very moment when there's always someone that drops a glass and Hell starts over. I wouldn't want to be on Jimbo's skin...
Well, I know it is a rather difficult task, but there's time... I'll be doing sketches of dangerous looking and freaky guys to put in the image these days and ask for your opinion.
Hope you like it, and good luck to all.
06 June 2007, 07:16 AM
I've done a quick colour scheme. I'm not happy with the composition so it's gonna change along the way. What I want to focus in is the rabbit with a winning hand and the reflection on the window showing the aces on his ears.
Maybe I want to put too many elements on the scene...
06 June 2007, 07:18 AM
Nice sketch and very funny :)
06 June 2007, 07:46 AM
Poor old Jimbo!! http://gallery.cgsociety.org/images/smilies/scream.gif
Very nice sketching and colour draft, looking forward to seeing more!
06 June 2007, 09:30 AM
dude, thats a very funny concept and the pic its very good cause the rabit its holding his overconfident atitude to the last minute! its going to be fun watching the contrast of the mean guys. yeah there is time! good luck
06 June 2007, 10:04 AM
Haha, great idea
How about having the guy on the right looking into the window at the aces? This would help emphasise the fact that this is where the punch line is.
Good luck with it, look forward to seeing your progression.
06 June 2007, 10:50 AM
tricky bunny.. nice sketch and idea
06 June 2007, 11:56 AM
Excellent ! great sketch !
If your final illustration reach the quality of your usual works, I think it will be amazing !
Why didn't you ever have an award ?
Your gallery is amazing !
06 June 2007, 12:11 PM
Thank you guys, I didn´t expect replies so soon.
Elendil_le_Grand: Thanks man.
harachte: In fact I'm still thinking if Jimbo is the correct name for this stupid rabbit. It will serve for the moment
renderwhite: You are right man, that's exactly what I want, a nerd so sure of himself he is incapable to see when he is discovered.
pseudonympending: Yes, of course , the focal point should be the reflection on the back and everybody should look to it. Thank you very much.
icedeyes: Glad you like it
gpepper: Wow, thanks!
06 June 2007, 12:17 PM
hi Ramon! Good start... I love the body language of the bunny, and the reflection is a great idea!
I can't wait to see more development of his opponents! (They should be such a lot of fun to paint)
06 June 2007, 01:39 PM
Hey, Ramitxon, good to see you here again! Great concept so far. I like where you're heading with it, and nice layout and character design so far.
While you're still roughing things out, what about trying a much larger window? Right now it's on a tangent with the guy on the left, and it looks like you might have to cheese the angle to get Jimbo's back into the reflection. A larger viewport - maybe even one with a fish-eye lens - could solve both problems and help serve to make Jimbo pop more - sort of an inverse halo, a big dark patch behing a white bunny will really help him read well.
Good luck and have fun!
06 June 2007, 01:56 PM
lol ! fantastic ! funny ! keep going .
06 June 2007, 03:18 PM
Great Start. Mike makes a good point, when I was first looking at the image, I was thinking that they were underwater with how small the window was. That's just how it read to me. I like the concept and I am looking forward to see how it turns out... =)
Keep it Odd!
06 June 2007, 10:58 AM
Nice first idea! Good luck to you mate!
06 June 2007, 11:02 AM
I like Jimbo :)
06 June 2007, 03:33 PM
heheheeh cute!! its great to see you in this challenge! Good luck!
06 June 2007, 07:07 PM
Ok, let's start. This pretty felow here is the first attempt at defining the mean guys. Let's call it Freak 1. I'll be doing a few character designs these days to help me with the scene.
All comments are wellcome.
06 June 2007, 07:09 PM
Another beauty. This is gonna be fun.
06 June 2007, 07:42 PM
Wow great concept. I like it very much. :bounce:
Good luck with the challenge.
06 June 2007, 03:23 AM
Nice! I love the character designs thus far!
06 June 2007, 03:26 AM
HEY! i am trying desperately to get all threads down, :D HI and stuff
06 June 2007, 10:02 PM
This one will be on the shadow of the big ones. I want a really mean and dangerous human holding a gun or a big knife. That will be freak 4.
ok, see you in a while...
06 June 2007, 10:22 PM
loool, this freak3 its freaking me out! i mean he dont have guns but have this untolerant look and those skiny ultrafast tentacles it kind of makes me wonder what will happen the rabit! very good
06 June 2007, 10:25 PM
wow!! ahhahaha so cool!! i love the idea!!
06 June 2007, 01:48 PM
Nice colors, great concept... I`ll be watching this :) subscribed
06 June 2007, 09:53 PM
Thank you all for your feedback. This one is freak 4, I want him to be really dangerous, in contrast with the other guys in the scene. This will not be his final look, but it's a start.
06 June 2007, 11:39 PM
Nice to see you in the contest. Good Luck,
07 July 2007, 06:45 PM
Nice idea and i think it fit fine with the challenge ! I realy like the cuty rabbit :)
07 July 2007, 09:29 AM
nice sketch ! welcome!
07 July 2007, 11:06 AM
these look like quite varied character designs.. nice sketches too.. keep it up
07 July 2007, 11:15 AM
hehe, great charakter designs, the bunny lookz perfekt with the pose.
my first idea for this challange was also a poker game, but with crazy super heroes.
now I must change my concept hehe, but eazy I have a new idea.
good look mate, your stuff roxx!
07 July 2007, 03:36 PM
Hi Ramón! It's a pleasure to meet you here again. Your concept is really funny as usual.
07 July 2007, 05:14 PM
Thank you all guys, you're really nice. I don't know if keep on designing freaks or diving head on right to the final composition, I have two or three more ideas for the challenge I want to develop too, i'll have to keep busy.
07 July 2007, 09:20 AM
Hi, I've been busy with my everyday job these last days, I only could do some quick skeches on the subway. This one is the ever present on galactic taverns robot bartender, kind of a kliché. I'm sorry Goro I couldn't resist.
In a few days I'll update with the final lines and comp of the image. See you all.
07 July 2007, 09:44 AM
your entry is really promising. Good luck.
07 July 2007, 02:40 PM
Ok, 2nd attempt at composition. Peel me up please, let me know what you think.
07 July 2007, 02:49 PM
Awesome! The waiter is priceless!
I like the tentacle dude, he looks particularly scary.
The bunny might need a few more nerdish qualities and the bad guys might need to look a little more "bad" but this is going great.
I like the angle of the room and overall shapes. It gives the painting a sense of movement.
07 July 2007, 03:01 PM
What wonderful concept. The composition is coming along nicely. Lighting can enhance your composition at a later time as you've done in your earlier color sketch - spotlight in the center of the table and some characters in the shadow.
You're the master of funny bunnies. I loved the Ninja Bunny. :)
07 July 2007, 03:31 PM
07 July 2007, 05:14 PM
The composition feels like it is mostly spot on
07 July 2007, 06:23 PM
what a poker game it is!
it is the one of the best thread i've seen.:) i m looking forward for more.
07 July 2007, 09:05 AM
authentic: thank you man, good luck to you too
eclipse115: I like the waiter too, I know there are thousands of robots like that around, look Goro's, but once I sketched it I knew I had to put it in the scene, looking completely oblivious of what´s happening around him, like the bunny, but he's just doing his job.
Maybe I could add a small tie to Jimbo to look more a nerd and make him even more contrasted with the bizarre creatures around him? It could work.
About the bad guys I usually define the characters along the way on the painting process, nothing's final yet, and the background room and window need to be polished still.
ekah: Master of Bunnies?, yeah ..., I like it. I could put it on my signature. Thank you, the lighting will be crucial to the mood of the image, i wanna add smoke and thick ambient, we'll see what will become at the end. Good luck to you too.
digital-bobert: Thanks Master
Lah: It could do with a little more work yet I think, but thank you...
Drmwlkr: You gonna make me blush. You know? I don't even know how to play poker, I'll have to learn at least something to finish and know what I'm doing.
07 July 2007, 09:48 AM
man, thats a very nice line art!i like this one already:thumbsup:
07 July 2007, 09:59 AM
looks great... only one comment... the guys on the right seem to overlap too much like the guy in the back is the bodyguard of the tentacle guy.... If that was you original intention, then no problem, if not, try to sperate them just a tad... maybe make the guy on the back snap a fist on the table or something to put him in the game...
Just some ideas...
07 July 2007, 04:07 PM
going for the bunny as your final? t'was a great choice from the start :) cant wait to see more.
07 July 2007, 04:19 PM
That's looking nice, Ramixton. The larger window is woming much better for you, methinks. THe composition around the table feels like it's getting a bit crowded. I thought your ealier version felt a bit cleaner and easier to read... Looking back at it, I see that there were still a lot of folks in it, maybe it's just that many of them in the foreground are in shadows, as you would no doubt do here as well. But just a thought. Pulling out some figures might make for overall stronger silhouettes. Anyhow, looking nice... have fun!
07 July 2007, 05:55 PM
Haha, awesome concept man! I think however you could try some various alternative settings - I mean the planet/outer space setting as seen in the window just feels a bit off, maybe you could try something to enhance the mood/setting of thoose inside playing poker.
Anyway, can't wait until you start slapping color on this - I'll be back for sure! :)
07 July 2007, 06:24 PM
Try expanding the canvas on one side. I want to see what it looks like. I like how you've set the composition up. Just need to tighten it a more, you're set for going into color. Nice clean line work.
07 July 2007, 06:55 PM
I really like the crowded feel. It's reminiscent of the old style saloon poker games where the action is heavy. I also like the space theme.
To me it's more than just a good concept, it's got great feeling and energy which is harder to pull off.
07 July 2007, 09:39 PM
Hi, first, thanks to all for your feedback. This is more or less the final composition. I'm not happy at all with the guys on the right but I will define them along the painting process. In fact this should be the point where I start to add colour.
Walrus: you are completely right, the image was a bit crowded and needed to be free of distracting elements, I have deleted some characters and pushed other to the borders of the image to make somehow a dark frame around the focal point. It should work. Nevertheless there's nothing final yet. My works usually change a lot along the process.
Ok, thank you guys, please tell me what you think about it.
07 July 2007, 06:36 AM
Maybe a little to much, but you could try and make the reflection come from the waiter-robot standing behind him. Or make the waiter hold the tray such way, the villans can see the reflection of the aces..
Anyway, very nice idea still! Keep it up!
07 July 2007, 06:39 AM
One thing I notice is the middle of the table is empty. What is the wager on the table? might be an opportunity to make this even stranger :D
07 July 2007, 06:44 AM
Of course Lindsey, I still have to learn to play poker. :)
07 July 2007, 03:30 PM
LOL I love it! I agree that maybe they ar eplaying for kittens or something too cute for words. Or something just gross - like liver and onions.
07 July 2007, 03:32 PM
this is going along nicely Ramon! I can see some very interesting characters!
07 July 2007, 06:22 AM
Well, I suppose I could just put a bunch of carrots in the middle of the table...
07 July 2007, 09:20 AM
Your scene is exellent ! I wait to see the way you will add details to background and all the little funny details of each characters. It will be a big work for sure and long time to paint. Good luck !
07 July 2007, 09:33 PM
Ok, let's rock.
Jimbo is here, well, at least is beginning to be. Where could I have started if not him?. I've been out a couple of days but I'm starting now to add value and colours. I know it's not saturated enough, There's a long road ahead...
I'm not sure about the tie, tell me what you think guys.
07 July 2007, 03:25 AM
very nice humerous drawing - keep up the good work!
07 July 2007, 08:16 AM
bunny is the man buddy.concept and sketch both are looking good.Looking forward to see more.Best of luck.
07 July 2007, 10:22 AM
the tie looks great... gives him class and adds to the attitude... keep it up
07 July 2007, 10:33 AM
hey hey , I'm not alone starting painting ! Great.
Your right about saturation in your description. The green is a bit cold and poor here.
Keep good job !
07 July 2007, 10:39 AM
lol this is great, sweet concept :D love it :bounce:
07 July 2007, 10:43 AM
Wow! One of the strangest and funniest entries so far.
I really like your main character. His expression is awesome.
Composition-wise however, I thing that you have to much empty space on the top.
Also, the lower right guy, kind of gets cut weird.
Maybe if you expanded the canvas to the right a little, to incorporate a little of his right shoulder would fix that.
The snail character by the way is great, he deserves his own TV show!!!
I’m really psyched to see where the piece will go!
Keep up the great work!
07 July 2007, 10:54 AM
Looking very good, Ramón. Ánimo!!
07 July 2007, 11:02 AM
The guy on the left looks like general grevious. :) I like your concept, but having all the strange creatures together brings it a bit too much into the realm of fantasy to consider this 'strange behavior' for surely such behaviour would be normal in this world? Maybe if you made the rabbit photorealistic.....:D
07 July 2007, 07:24 PM
Jimbo is cheating! this is what I want to be the focal point of the image, i think it will be the most difficult part to render too. We'll see. Thank you for your feedback guys, tomorrow I will try to answer all of you. I think I will add more space on the image to the right to define better the freaks there.
Ok see you ...
07 July 2007, 07:33 PM
This is excellent. His beverage can be some kind of carrot cocktail, or like bloody marry with carrot instead of tomato(you can call it -not so bloody marry any more- :))
Keep up good work.
07 July 2007, 08:27 PM
WOW . . . love the reflection of the cards. Perfect incorporation too!
07 July 2007, 09:05 PM
wow this is such a cool concept, cant wait to see the next update! I'm a big fan of your stuff, truly an inspiration!
07 July 2007, 10:40 PM
Ramon....I always enjoy your stuff, but a bunny with an attitude.....great!
07 July 2007, 10:45 PM
Brilliant! I too love the reflections in the window - I almost missed them but then once I see them - totally funny. I am not sure have you decided to crop in or are you just showing us a close up? I enjoy the new crop if you are - I still see what is going on with out all the other characters - and makes it easier to focus actually.
I love you style. Can't wait to see where else you take it. A tleast you have a clear direction - I am not sure I like any of the 4 sketched I have !
I will keep watching your thread!
07 July 2007, 11:33 PM
cute cute cute:thumbsup:
07 July 2007, 01:12 PM
Thanks Gord, I'll do my best
Thank you very much, I expect you will be able to see much more
Yeah, I think the tie will help to make him more nerdish
This is the fun part, the image will change a lot, as you can see I am beginning to correct the lack of saturation, that's a usual fault of mine at the first stages of my work. There's still a long road ahead.
Don´t worry about the lower right guy, I'm gonna change him, Im not at all happy with his looks. I agree maybe there should be more space to the right. About the top of the image I like it that way, after all the very top and the bottom will be in shadows, somehow framing the focal point, Jimbo and his reflection. The difficult part will be integrating all the characters on the scene without making it too confusing. I expect colours to help on that.
I want the snail like character to be somewhat translucid or transparent to make him more freaky.
Well, I don´t know where's the limit on normal and strange behavior, You are right in considering that if everything is weird then it should be considered "normal" though. The point is: have you ever seen a nerd bunny on any space canteen?
Yeah, maybe I should introduce a carrot somewhere
Wow, you gonna make blush:love:
Yeah, I think bunnies are the most absurd creatures ever you could find
Thanks, it's only a closeup, I love your stuff too, congratulations on Exposé 5
Yeah, yeah, yeah
07 July 2007, 01:18 PM
I would expect space to be full of nerds, yes. :)
07 July 2007, 01:30 PM
Such a beautiful and funny work!! The rabitt looks great!!
07 July 2007, 02:50 PM
Haha...you're right. Wow, I just had an interesting idea, "Invasion of space nerds". It gives me the creeps. :)
Thanks Carlos, there is still a lot of work to do.
07 July 2007, 03:17 PM
Really great work Ramitxon! The rabbit expression is briliant! lol! It's so cute man! :D
Awsome style; wish you the best luck! it's a great work from now! ;)
Gl, mim,
07 July 2007, 03:38 PM
After Jimbo I like this guy the most. What can I do?
07 July 2007, 11:25 AM
I`m adding the general colours and mood of the image. It remains still unsolved the matter of the lower right guy, I want him to be really hulking and mean. I'll do some sketches this week. Tell me what you think, I'm yours pals...
07 July 2007, 12:05 PM
Hahaha, poor Jimbo - he's in real trouble now!
Expression on his face is priceless. Great work so far:thumbsup:
07 July 2007, 01:23 PM
hahahaha mate this is very funny stuff here, poor space rabbit :D
07 July 2007, 02:06 PM
All those different characters look great! They make for a nice mixture of types, yet all have this 'bad guy' vibe. Except for Jimbo of course. We have a saying here in the Netherlands 'hij is het haasje', which translates to 'he's the hare'. It means he's dead meat. Very appropriate here. ;)
Good luck with the challenge Ramitxon!
07 July 2007, 03:04 PM
lol! this image is soo funny man, i like the colors too :)
I'll be watching this thread
07 July 2007, 09:22 PM
This guy is in fact one of the most dangerous assasins of the galaxy, fun to paint too. You must be by now kind of bored of constant updates.
Next one: guy of the knife
07 July 2007, 10:21 PM
Interesting and funny concept, looks like he will learn the hard way not to cheat at the poker table (or will it be Sabbac?)
07 July 2007, 10:52 PM
great work and i like the characters expressions.Maybe i would change the lower left (snail with gun) one to another color so as to separate from the table.
Its very funny concept good one:thumbsup:
07 July 2007, 11:54 PM
this is going to be rad. colors are realy well suited for this image. cant wait for me.
07 July 2007, 08:21 AM
all of the painted elements blend in nicelly but the waiter is the best of the bunch so far imho...
07 July 2007, 11:44 AM
I love the Tentacle guy. Nearly as beautifully as I. ;)
07 July 2007, 08:24 PM
This one's gonna give me troubles, specially his right hand and the knife, I'll need some references as honestly I don´t know how to paint a knife.
Thank you all for your encouraging words.
07 July 2007, 07:44 AM
the knife doesn't look that bad in my pionion... the right hand looks like it doesn't have any finger though.. Overall he looks very good...
07 July 2007, 10:11 AM
The knife is ok, IMHO. Maybe his expresiion could be a little more agressive, or angrier. Anyway, nice character. I like his haircut :-)
07 July 2007, 04:13 PM
Poor Jimbo... I truly wonder what brought Jimbo to this game. 3 outer-space man having grey-brown cloaks on them? Maybe these 3 space man, should be slightly visible from the window, just a thought. Good work, Great talent. :)
07 July 2007, 05:47 PM
looks good .. ur style is great ...
best of luck ..for this challenge
07 July 2007, 02:40 PM
Hi, I've been out of the challenge for a couple of weeks busy with my everyday work. Fortunately yesterday I could spare the afternoon to paint something.
I've added more room to the right and somewhat defined the background and the window, added one more character. There's still to appear the lower right guy, that will happen on the next post, and then I'll work properly on the right illumination and comp of the image.
See you guys, hope u like it
07 July 2007, 02:46 PM
very nice idea
coming alond nicely
07 July 2007, 03:11 PM
heheheh ... so funny and brilliant moment you choose to show man ...
good luck ^_^
07 July 2007, 03:26 PM
wonderful image. :) I love the rabbit somatic expression, seems say "watch that. i win!" ehehe is lovely!
Nice work :)
07 July 2007, 04:31 PM
Cool Concept! Diggin the drawing as well!
07 July 2007, 05:32 AM
IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU'RE BACK!
Cause' you know, your pic is going almost the same way i pictured it in my mind from the first sketch, that's very fun to see, Thank you!
Keep the good work!
07 July 2007, 08:45 AM
the popping antena eyes of the guy in the lower left look a bit strange, like he is turning his throat in one direction and his eyes on another... maybe it just me.. overall great quality work
07 July 2007, 10:26 AM
great idea, really nicely exicuted :) love the little details too holding the cards in his ears! haha
are you nearly finished ???? no fair!
07 July 2007, 03:33 PM
Just great composition and idea !!!
The bunny is just super, very charismatic painting, keep on !!!
08 August 2007, 05:43 PM
I love it.
That's one brave rabbit =)
I'll check on your progress.
Keep it up!
08 August 2007, 08:00 PM
haha the cheating bunny. nice touch on this piece. definatly made me laugh.
08 August 2007, 12:19 AM
Great work i love it, and also i have a question. What do you use to paint your sketch ?
Thank you and good luck ! Nooooo, the luck isn't the solution...
08 August 2007, 12:41 PM
Glad you like it
Thank you, good luck to you too
Thank you, there's lots of work ahead, I hope not to loose the rabbit's expression on the way.
Hey, man, I would like to update more often but unfortunately I must do some proper work in order to make a living. My job is just too demanding lately.
It's me who must say thank you for your kind words, you know, in fact I'm painting just right out of your mind.
Yeah, I think I have to touch it a little, besides ther's nothing final yet, lot's of time for a hundred tweakings.
Finished???, not yet my friend. :)))
Thank you so much...:)
Not so much brave as completely stupid. Thanks.:)
Well, initially I just combine on photoshop various sketches both paper and digital, it depends on where I have the idea. Then it's just Painter and Photoshop.
Thanks to yoo too.
08 August 2007, 01:46 PM
Hey, Ramón, glad to see you've had a little chance to work on this. Don't worry - there are three months to go, plenty of time to do your paying work and get soem time for this too!
I love how things are looking. It's great starting to see everything fleched out. I love the reflections of the cards in the ears in the viewpost window - nice layout there!
One area that could possibly use some adjustment is the human guy - on the left - with the knife. Now don't get me wrong, he looks terrific - all mean and rugged and a bit grimy, he's perfect! However, value-wise, he blends right into the background, same values as everything around him. Maybe lightening up his skin notes and/or clothes could help, or maybe a rim-light? Or changing the background lighting behind him?
Speaking of the area behind him, he also seems to have this weird medical condition (maybe it's common in this part of the galaxy?) where he has a robot growing out of his head. Maybe that's not such a bad condition, always having a robot on hand (or head) to serve you drinks, but it would make it awfully hard to go undercover, and stealth would probably be necessary in his line of work. So might I suggest shifting the robot to the left or right, one or the other, to make that condition go away? (That and take two aspirin and call me in the morning.) There's plenty of room to move the Servitron to the right without crowding Jimbo.
Anyhow, just some thoughts... Good luck with it all, this piece and work!
08 August 2007, 02:22 PM
Haha, you are completely right my friend. :) The truth is for me is difficult to forsee what will become of an image at the end, I start things but I usually change them a lot along the way, so I'm not very worried about the look of that guy cause I know I will be making a lot of adjustments on him and the other characters. I don't know if having so much time for one painting is necesarilly good, you could loose freshness and maybe more...
About the robot, everybody should grow one on their heads, I have one in fact, and it's just great, only a bit uncomfortable if there is someone standing in front of me when I'm tying my shoes.:)
In my first sketches I defined the bottom half of the waiter but when I placed him the area becomes a little crowded with the face of the guy and the robot hips, one solution could be lightening the face and maybe using rim lights on it and darkening Robbie's hips, fading into shadows and of course placing him correctly.
BTW your own image is looking fantastic. Thanks a lot for your feedback.
08 August 2007, 03:53 PM
This is realy looking excelent :) For some reason I feel that the unrevealed lower right guy should be a hulking crab. You can tell that you are on the right track, when your image sparks such thoughts... :D
08 August 2007, 12:28 PM
Hi, finally I've ended up with a character I like for the lower right guy, thank you Yoff, you gave me the idea. It is a kind of space operator, somewhat insect-crab like, i just haven´t had time to put him on the scene, that will be on next chapter...
See you guys!
08 August 2007, 04:54 AM
Oh you got me with this one, I never see him coming:D:D:D!!
Great characterization for someone you don't even get to see his full face! those are the hard ones...:thumbsup:
08 August 2007, 05:54 AM
hmmm.nice one buddy.keep up the pace going.:)
08 August 2007, 10:09 AM
He is great! :) I am looking forward to seeing how he works in the scene...
08 August 2007, 05:49 PM
Hi guys, I've been out some days on holdays so for the time being I'm not spending too much time on the challenge, but I've been able to more or less establish the final composition with, at last, the lower right guy. I know there are still lots of things that don't work properly, so tell me what you think and if you see something that could be changed please don't hesitate to peel me up.
Next chapter: correct lighting.
08 August 2007, 09:16 PM
i like a lot your characters
the one who has a knife in his mouth for me is the best one! =)
very nice work.
08 August 2007, 10:03 PM
this is definitely one of my favorite entries in the competion. Great work!
08 August 2007, 09:15 PM
Comp looking great now and really like the characters around the table. Reminds me a little of the Mos Eisley Cantina which is always a good thing :)
08 August 2007, 09:19 PM
wow friend !! simple brilhant! lighting , colors , subject ... I liked it too much ! Congratulations .

wow friend !! simple brilhant! lighting , colors , subject ... I liked it too much ! Congratulations .
Yap well,just the same!Brilliant!
08 August 2007, 03:48 PM
I love how this image is turning out. Definitely oneof my favorites.
I have one problem with the image. It looks like the bunny has 5 aces, not counting the two behind his ears. Isn't this supposed to be poker? :D I like that he's cheating with 2 aces behind his ears, but to have extra ace on hand seems redundant. :)
08 August 2007, 04:57 PM
No, thats cementing his stupidity. He has so more aces tucked away than he can handle, and manages to put five on the table, cheating in plain sight...:)
08 August 2007, 04:29 PM

Haha, I see. :D That makes sense.
08 August 2007, 06:32 PM
the characters blend in very nicelly together... keep it up
08 August 2007, 02:50 PM
Hi, I'm back. I've been on my holidays without even an internet connection but I'm at home again doing my homework. I've started to detail the characters. First one the Robowaiter, not yet finished but he should like pretty much like this, the glasses though need some touches, I'll find some references.
Ok, thank you all for your feedback and kind words, I'll be updating as soon as possible.
08 August 2007, 04:38 AM
the rabbit is cool, man
08 August 2007, 03:40 PM
Hehe very nice concept and characters. You've progressed very well so far. The bunny will need help if catched of stealing card. Have more fun and good luck! I'll watch your progress interestedly. Cheers!
08 August 2007, 08:02 PM
excelent work so far, really nice image. Keep it up!
08 August 2007, 10:27 AM
Hi, first of all again I must say thank you for your kind comments and sorry for not answering each of you, I'm not having a lot of time lately.
Well, More or less is detailed the background window, I think I will still tweak it a little more, adding maybe some spaceships and wires on the wall.
Ok, if you see something that doesn't work please tell me.
See you in a couple days.
08 August 2007, 01:05 PM
It just gets better and better Ramon. And always makes me smile.
08 August 2007, 04:21 PM
Aaaabsolutely hilarous theme and great illustration work so far :applause:
IMHO you can add some scrateches on the window like in the metro. And more dirt everywhere.. looks too clean. Same for the table. This will give a less confortable mood, it`s not a Lux Casino, it`s a cheap bar :D
edit: and carrot juice for the rabbit
08 August 2007, 06:13 PM
Hey, Ramón, it's looking nice. I especially like the detailing on the RoboWaiter and all fo the nice touches on his body.
The one thing that concerns me and may be worth thinking about is the color balance. Draw an imaginary line from the lower left corner to the upper right. Everything to the left of that line is relatively desaturated with hints of red. But to the right of that line, it's all bright colors; reds and greens and blues and pinks. In general, your viewers' eyes will sweep across the picture, reading from upper left to lower right like you would a book (or at least in Western cultures how you read a book.) Ideally, you want to lead those eyes back around from the lower right up to the main focal point. Here, the eyes land in the lower right where all the color is and just stick: The big red guy is just a huge eyeball suck! :) And then the poor eyes get stuck in that corner, "penned in" by the pink tentacles and the long blue neck: they're like a mini-corral, compositionally enclosing that whole lower corner.
So anyhow, you may want to consider opening up that corner more to the rest of the composition, and working with the color more to keep the eye from sticking where you don't want it. Desaturating the colors so that they eye can't help but focus on the one light patch - Jimbo himslef - could help. Good luck!
09 September 2007, 08:15 PM
I aaaaabsolutely agree with you my friend
You are right Mike, you always catch the weak spot, I've been uncomforable with that, but once you have put it in words I can focus on it and maybe fix the problem. I see taht lower right guy atracts all the attention on himself I think I'll have to darken and desaturate his colors and of course as I haven't detailed all the characters yet there's plenty of time to adjust them to the scene. Thank so much my friend.:applause:
09 September 2007, 08:33 PM
hey this is looking great, love the characters! the bunny rocks... love the details also.
09 September 2007, 03:02 AM
Great concept and illustration! really.
if you think the "mech" guy is taking most of the attention try to change the color of his clothes instead of red or orange, try something cold and dark.
another thing, you may rethink wether the glow on the edge of the planet is important or not. the darker the outer space the better quality of your concept as i think!
09 September 2007, 05:20 AM
Nice Humor, great work, i like the robot and rabbit´s shading and materials.
keep goin´ on for the other charakters im looking forward for the results .oli
09 September 2007, 05:44 PM
this looks great but my eyes just wonder too much in there... could you maybe darken the edges to get the attention back to the rabbit? just a suggestion... have fun..
09 September 2007, 11:43 PM
Awesome! The cheating bunny is great!
09 September 2007, 07:23 AM
Wow, great job. The bunny is cool, details like cards behind bunny's ears making the image really funny, characters rulez :)
10 October 2007, 09:45 PM
Hi guys, I'm still here. Been out of the game for a few weeks. I hope I can finish it in time, there's still a lot of work to do detailing, specially the table and the little coins and notes on it. I have worked the characters a bit, but the tentacle guy is somewhat undefined, I'm not happy with its colors.
Btw I have a little question for you, I'm having problems calibrating my display and I thought maybe the image is too dark and I haven't noticed it. How do you see it?
See you, this is getting fun.
10 October 2007, 10:21 PM
Phenominal work and fun characters! Loving this piece! Best wishes and keep up the strong work!:D
10 October 2007, 06:13 AM
hey! Really good to see you're back!! !! !! I was a little worried.........
Well, here at my screen the pic looks fine, of course it has a dark mood but is hard to tell how far is it from what you see in yours......
MMMMM, lets say the only area too dark I really feel like "Jeez.. I got to dance on my chair to find another point of view for beter contrast" would be the area under the human's ear, not much going on there, but I mention it as reference....
the bottles and tray reflexion is dim but clear enough, I think that's a good indication I'm seeing it right, in darker values it would be easily lost....
Also, I can see the 'triangle' formed by the upper right corner of the canvas and the outer edge of the metal circle, I see it sharp, but it is just in the brink of being too dark to notice it sharply, so I guess you can tell if I see it darker or lighter from that point...
MMMM....I hope all this helps, it is not easy to explain:D
10 October 2007, 08:52 AM
Lighting wise it looks perfect to me, not too contrasted at all, although the red gap in the left drags my attention slightly. Maybe the robot should cast some shadow on itt to lower the intensity... Great job so far, it'll look stunning once finished! ;)
10 October 2007, 02:28 PM
Nice to see you back on track.
For calibrating bring your image to your photolab (maybe with other images you made too), make an A4 print (say that they don`t have to enhance it) and compare the result.
For me the image is a little dark but you don`t have to trust a jpg output.
Good luck in the final steps :bounce:
10 October 2007, 04:24 PM
nice one.... great..
still have time, i think i will have to join also
10 October 2007, 04:38 PM
Ramitxon - Good to see you're still in this! The idea is that Jimbo is cheating and this entire crowd is upset at him, right? One problem I'm seeing is that it feels like the only one who's seeing what's going on and is angry is the human on the left, because we can see his expression of anger, especially in his face and eyes. There's not a single other character on the page who we can tell what's going on from looking at their eyes: Either their backs are towards us, or we can see the eyes, but they're alien/robotic and there's no expression in them at all. (Heck, we can't even see Jimbo's eyes.) There's a saying that the eyes are the windows to the soul... in which case your painting right now has a lot of windows with the shades drawn! :) It wouldn't take much to fix - try making the upper right guy with meaner eyes and a more clear expression. You could try doing the same with the Jawa guy with the long tongues too... Maybe even the robot as well. It could punch up the emotion and danger in your painting a lot! Good luck...
10 October 2007, 04:20 PM
Mike, you always look on the exact spot, you are absolutely right. Small corrections made great changes, I hope this looks better. Time's pressing on and lots of work still ahead, the money and banknotes for example.
Tahnk you all guys for your feedback.
10 October 2007, 07:57 PM
Excellent Ramitxon! Your illustration is very funny (I didn't saw the card in the ears of the rabbit at the first time...funny funny, I like this humour)
This version is nice, the lightning is good for me because we see easely the center of the scene witch is the most important. The only thing that I say is about the top of your illustration, It could be interesting to have pipes or a beautifull space lights. This will add a little more elements and details in this part of the illustration.
Hope to see your final illustration soon, it's a great work
10 October 2007, 11:54 AM
Hey Ramon . I just discover your entry and I really like , it is exactly what I like in Monster in the City and in your Blind Ninja Bunny. Good Luck
10 October 2007, 02:02 PM
Hi Ramon ! Nice to see you in here !
Your image improved a lot since the last time I saw it. I really like the whole scene ! Silly bunny :-) Your idea was great, and I really like the way you painted each character's expression... Good luck to you !
10 October 2007, 03:47 PM
I really like the style of this. It reminds me of old pulp sci-fi covers, and I mean that in a good way. I particularly like the chappie on the right with the bulging eye and knife in his mouth.
10 October 2007, 07:39 PM
Hey Ramón, great style... The characters' expressions are especially good:thumbsup:
10 October 2007, 10:46 AM
Hi Ramón! You're still keep going very well. As I understand you're still working on
details which are supporting this hilarious concept in the best way.
Best of luck! Cheers!
10 October 2007, 01:56 AM
I love the idea of mirror reflection,
it made me laugh immediately as soon as I saw the center part of this piece.:applause:
10 October 2007, 02:18 PM
Hey, hurry up with the last improvements :bounce: Best of luck in those last days of the challenge

10 October 2007, 04:47 PM
Wow, finished barely in time. I'm sorry guys for not replying to your encouraging words, this last month has been really difficult with my everyday job, I've been afraid I would not be able to finish it. Ok, as soon as I upload the final tiff I'll do my homework and keep up with your threads. There's been an awesome work around.
Here is the story:
It was Jimbo's lucky night. One winning hand after another. Two hours before, all his friends advised him not to play precisely at that canteen and precisely with those guys, reknowned as the worst scum of the galaxy, dangerous enough to not being on the same planet as them.
He didn't understand why, once you get to know them, they were perfectly frindly pals. Besides, Jimbo wasn't against cheating a little here and there, it was a matter of showing overconfident attitude, and of course, they would never know it. But this last time he had the weird feeling there was something wrong, they were all looking to the window behind him, stupid freaks...
Hope you had liked it.
