Great a new CGtalk Contest... I´m in ;) I`ll transfer my currently WIP into this contest because it perfectly suites the idea behind "strange behavior", well a least in my way of thinking^^
So here is the first idea for it... global warming and how mankind reacts by this means on the "strange behavior" of the world climate.
06-26-2007, 10:11 PM
Here is the second idea as concept sketch I`m currently working out... where will you plan holidays in 2060? Strange Behavior of mankind when Global Warming takes place in the near future ;)
06-28-2007, 04:39 PM
Hi , theuni! , glad to see you , long time no see, global warming is good subject ,maybe you can add more charactor to show the story more effective,
good luck and have fun!
06-29-2007, 08:14 PM
I agree with Monsit, the global warning theme is a great one. Looking forward to see what you'll come up with :)
06-29-2007, 10:23 PM
wow nice idea, and most certenly beautifull sketches/concepts!!
06-30-2007, 01:51 PM
@calisto, Gunilla & Monsit
thanks guys for your kind words... keeps me pushing on :)
06-30-2007, 01:56 PM
some little updates... on the composition, added more vehicles and water sport stuff, replaced the swiming hotel dummy and so on...
things which I still want to go for this concept sketch... stronger lighting (any ideas how to achieve that?), more water sport vehicles (not sure about overdoing this) and a buoy with a sign on the top "Sunken Gizeh Pyramides - Diving Zone"
Crits & Comments warmly welcomed
06-30-2007, 06:27 PM
Wow! Great concept! The idea with the sunken pyramid is very nice.
Looking forwart to see more from you!
07-02-2007, 12:53 PM
Hi there my friend! Glad to see you fightin' :)
First concept is more mysterious and has stronger mood, but second is much more fun, and this time that would be a big plus, so go for it :)
07-02-2007, 02:13 PM
thanks arturro for showing by :) I really appreciate that you guys still remember me ;) And for the concept sketches... yep your right I think exactly the same way about those 2... but wait there is more to come... I already got something in mind for nr.3
@schwarzlicht... thx for the comment and your personal support ;)
07-02-2007, 02:17 PM
Some minor updates on comp. and I replaced the ship in right front part with a catamaran boat typ. Oh the buoy is no in... I´m still not satisfied with the overall lightning but I`m getting closer... maybe one more update and I´ll call this concept idea done... what do you think?
07-03-2007, 12:15 PM
hi theuni! like what you have going on here. Looks a little bit like dubai but the pyramids make you stop and think. Plus with all the opportunities to create futuristic fun machines and light/water effex this is a cool idea. I'll be watching it develop...
07-03-2007, 01:16 PM
Some minor tweaks here and there to improve the overall lightning impression. Oh and again some additional sport vehicles. This place starts to get crowded... well then, it could be the last place on earth in 2060 for summer holidays
07-03-2007, 03:25 PM
I'll look forward for the final entry.
07-05-2007, 09:27 AM
I knew there was something missing... I thought about droping in some kind of futuristic hovering vehicle polluting the air while heading for the holiday resort. But for know the caravan will do the job.
07-05-2007, 10:14 AM
Really like the idea - I prefer the more desolate sandy caravaning shot, but the pyramid concept was fun too. Since you have wind turbines how about some tumbleweed? Maybe a destroyed metal petrol station or road sign hanging limply by the side of the road. I can almost hear the lone squeaking hinge amongst the silence!
Hey theuni, looong time (possibly a grand space opera!?). Your work looks great, nice fresh concept
I'll have to check back to see how you get on, take care :bounce:
07-05-2007, 10:55 PM
@Ethan, hey old pal thanks for steping by and watching :)
@fido972, thanks you won`t regret it
@RebCapper, thanks for the comments and ideas. There will be definitely more details like those you described in the final image but thanks for inpiration
@M477, hey buddy jep it has been a while but fortunately I`m back in
07-09-2007, 11:15 AM
And finally here is concept idea 3 of 3 for this challenge. Most likely I`ll go for this idea for some reasons but let me know what you think is the best idea for me to go for...
Well, for this sketch the story reads as follows: Global Warming has taken place just as Holywood has foreseen it ;-) the whole planet has frozen to a big snowball. Only some few places, known as hot spots and maybe some sunken pyramides, remaind on earth for living and working. The place you see on the sketch is some sort of industrial place where mankind still tries to exploit nature but this time in some "strange manner". The strange behaviour for this one could be seen in mining a vulcano or even in the guy you can see in front of the image... selling earplugs to the workers arriving from their shift.
07-12-2007, 02:08 PM
hey theuni, good to see you back in another challenge!
this last concept can look very good with all the snow and ice, and with the light coming from the volcano, the moon and the lamp at the same time...
07-12-2007, 03:08 PM
Some minor updates on the composition and the light situation. Also added some more workers to vitalize the scene a bit more.
I have to add that I`m already getting bored with this GW idea of mine ;-) So most probably I will head for a more funny idea...
07-13-2007, 02:09 PM
I´m still racking my brain for a adequate idea. So here´s something more funny based on a daily sketch of mine...
07-13-2007, 02:21 PM
Subscribed thread ! It has got interesting concepts !
07-13-2007, 02:46 PM
Oh, that's a turn in concept! I like the last one, sweet - but I think your global warming theme was perhaps more interesting. Are you going fully 2d this time or will you do it in 3d?
07-14-2007, 01:26 PM
Finally I think I had a pretty funny idea ;-) Well let`s see how much more there will be until the final image upload but this one I really like...
Odysseus and his men escaping from the Cyclops Cave by the assistance of a goat herd.
The quit intelligent and from history falsified described Cyclop named Polyphem just observes this STRANGE BEHAVIOUR as his goats are hauling themselve to death under the weight of Odysseus and his men trieng to escape from the cave.
Here are the first few brush strokes on this idea... just some basic composition...
07-14-2007, 01:50 PM
nice, interesting turn in your work! Like it! The man with the turtle is a cute idea an my personal favourit - whereas I´m curious about how the odysseus theme will develop.
Keep it up!
07-14-2007, 03:04 PM
Hey, that's a good idea you got there, and it would definitely bear it's Strange Behaviour title perfectly. But I think you're composition could benefit from being more on the "side" of either the cyclop or the escapers, so that we immediatly understand what's it's all about, and overall to make it a bit more dynamic. For example, you could put the camera lower to the ground, closer to Odysseus and his men, with the giant cyclop blocking the sunlight and looking at them like they're complete retarded, or inversly we could be somewhat more behind Polyphem, with the men embarassed to be found in this compromising situation.
Anyway, good luck with this challenge! I'm sure you'll pull this out wonderfully. :)

@elmasfeo, thx pal for visiting my contribution to this crazy challenge :)
@CyborgJA, thx & cheers
@Gunilla, jep making a 180 turn^^
@schwarzlicht, I think I´ll go for the Odysseus theme
@Frotze, thx for the help & I´ll upload something soon which will go more the direction you described and I originally also had in mind but the sketch didn`t really showed
07-16-2007, 12:28 PM
So here is a little Update on scenery of Odysseus Escape. This time I choosed a poster format to achieve a bigger difference of dimensions between Odysseus and the giant.
Still thinking about the way of transforming this idea... I think I`ll mainly go for 3D on the chars and stay in 2D for the rest of the image... C6C whished as always ;-)
07-18-2007, 02:05 PM
I finally started in 3D and quickly modeled a low poly goat. I`m not sure for now but most probably I´ll overpaint everything afterwards. Next thing to do is building up a 3D scene so arranging things for comp will get a bit easier.
07-19-2007, 09:23 AM
I quickly builded up a 3D scene so I´ll be able to play around with the elements. Next step is to find the right posture for the goats... I really want to take them into Zbrush for creating these stupid and stressed looking goat faces ;-)
07-19-2007, 11:51 AM
I like this new idea, it is really strange behaviour, I'm looking forward to see the faces of the goats and the giant, hehe...
you have translated your sketch to 3d quite exactly also.... my sugestion would be that maybe you can try to play with the camera a bit more, looking for different angles... maybe it could look good with the camera a bit lower, and seeing the cyclops more from below...
anyway, good job!
07-20-2007, 07:54 AM
I´m playing around with cam views and also did some posing on the giant to achieve a better comp for the image... it didn`t really make things easier ;-)
I like the sitting pose version of the giant but it leaves a big hole in the comp above his head. What do you think?
07-20-2007, 03:15 PM
Because of the low camera angle, I think the bottom left composition conveys that he is a giant the best. It's also the most dramatic angle.
As for the giant's pose, hands resting on his lap make it look like he is overseeing the whole thing, not dubious or confused. A hand over the mouth or resting on the chin - like the bottom right comp - shows that the best, in my opinion. Good luck with it!
07-20-2007, 06:20 PM
cool and funny idea! Are you ganna make the goats have long shaggy hair so the people underneath are covered by it?
09-18-2007, 09:46 PM
long holidays or a lot of work? :D
