06 June 2007, 10:34 PM
Good to see you in Slav, have fun buddy! :scream:
06 June 2007, 02:58 AM
this thing kind of developed all by its loan some, initially i wanted to make something completely different but while in the process of sketching, the characters came to life on their own and i couldn't resist, the ones i chose i liked most. but here is what i got.
06 June 2007, 03:02 AM
and the character concepts to go allong with the other sketches.
06 June 2007, 05:03 AM
I really like the middle character in the top row of your last post- it's quite intriguing! What's going on there?
06 June 2007, 05:07 AM
The one that Paperclip mentioned is definitely my favorite of the bunch. I'd also like to echo the question.
06 June 2007, 05:22 AM
I'd have to say my favorite is the furball one (assuming it was fur) Though perhaps that is because it is the most recognizable.
I love the furball with the stick legs too.
06 June 2007, 12:26 PM
hehe i see you guys all made the connection with the characters, ok yea he is a fur ball, technically he is a spore but yea soft and bouncy ect ect, in contrast to him there is a huge rock guy 1st guy 2nd row in the characters. kind of like a dad or a parent figure. and the 2 guy 1st row witht he balls on his back is the evil guy that eats the spores (prolly cant tell but hint hint impaled spores on his back...)
i hope that clears up some of my babbling from before, yes? paperclip? swizzle?
geta-ve yea atm he is, but i made these generally as design guides prolly go in with color later before i start the final to give them more, whats the word? UMPHF! :P
aj_23 thanks mate.
06 June 2007, 12:50 PM
love the characters... great idea having the impaled spores on the back... great touch...
06 June 2007, 01:00 PM
hehe why the rock protecting little small soft bouncy things?! ITS MADNESS, MADNESS I TELL YOU!
06 June 2007, 01:01 PM
great little caracters.
my favorites are the bottom row.. cute and a bit silly, lovable creatures
and seems like they really try to think things out and how they works...
06 June 2007, 01:05 PM
i am taking a chance on them yet again, but i really like the spore idea so i am gonna roll with it, win or loose. but yea thanks for droppin by to look makaron :) come back soon now, YE HEAR!? :P
ok i am off to work cheers!
06 June 2007, 01:15 PM
Good luck my fellow Canadian!
06 June 2007, 01:28 PM
I'm keeping an eye on this one.........very interesting start. This challenge looks like it'll suit you a lot, if those cool creatures are anything to go by!
06 June 2007, 02:17 PM
ill be a watching and a popping in as per usual :)
06 June 2007, 02:30 PM
Love the furry one with the long legs. Best of luck with your entry.
06 June 2007, 02:53 PM
Those characters are amazing. I'm intrigued by where this is heading, because I have a hunch it will be fantastic
06 June 2007, 03:06 PM
Hehe, indeed that's MADNESS!Like the spore idea too.Great skethes!And like Schwarzy said..."I'll be back"!
06 June 2007, 11:04 PM

the detail from the scribble the other day.
06 June 2007, 08:54 AM
Great concept and sketches dude.
06 June 2007, 09:03 AM
Hello, good starting with the last sketch, glad to re-examine you.
Good luck
06 June 2007, 12:55 PM
Sonic-x & Tranchefeux, thanks for droppin by! and the support! ill get to work now.
i am not sure what i am doing to decide with in terms of color, but i guess ill have to sit down right now i think greenish yellow browns in the fron and as the image fades more teal blue violet, i want this to be vibrant.
i am not sure about if this should be day or night though, its kinda been buggin me but no matter hopefully if i am not all pooped out i'll fix it when i come home from work. also the background needs to be resolved i dont think ill be using the a stright sky, maybe something blurry who knows, any whoo i shall return with more goodies another time. :)
06 June 2007, 01:35 PM
hello Slav ,
Crowned drawing that you proposes to us,
I will follow all that of near ;)
06 June 2007, 02:07 PM
I like the spores idea. Great pencil skills there. :)
06 June 2007, 04:19 PM
Good sketching. Your spore sketch will be probably better than my final work :)
06 June 2007, 07:05 PM
hehe cool, anything with long legged fury things (either that or pigs) has to be good :D
very nice drawings too
06 June 2007, 02:23 AM

renttu hehe i am sure it wont but i hope you do well none the less.
flyingp hells yea, dont forget squid. they are kind of cool too, at least i like them. but yes to the furry long legged pigs. :P
nev thanks allot buddy, ill do my best to make it come to life with color in the next week's time. hold on to your socks. :)
oh man, damn, would of been a perfect night! nr43 ruined it! i almost had the whole 1st page filled with posts by me! http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/3332/postingscp8.jpg
07 July 2007, 02:29 PM
well that's amazing. the HD gave out on me and i been trying to get it to work so i can get my stuff off it till 5 am yesterday. and i have to leave for work in an hour. but never the less i will prevail. i have the next week off, so ill probably advance the image allot more so then i did till now. that and i didnt post in a bit so i felt like blabbering about something other then "gee thanks for props" but then again who know... ok ill go before i start ranting more.
07 July 2007, 03:30 AM
i tried my best to recreate the colors of the old picture i had from 2 days ago. ill keep working more on this tomorrow. but here you are, colors.
07 July 2007, 04:36 AM
Welcome back Yaroslav! Nice colors so far! Good luck!
07 July 2007, 07:52 AM
very nice colors thus far but too close (like on the color wheel)... they dont seem to drive my eye somewhere right now... i seem to be focussed on the foreground but not sure what i am supposed to look at... hope this helps... keep it up..
07 July 2007, 01:29 PM
nice comp and colours.... i havent read the idea. and am unsure of what t is though just by looking ta it so far
07 July 2007, 02:33 PM
I love the colours you've chosen, particularly for the mushoom. I'd tone the monster down a bit though,,,, it's a bit too bright for the overall painting!
Keep going slav, you're doing reeeally well.......:thumbsup;
07 July 2007, 02:58 PM
Yep!Indeed nice colors!!!Maybe I'll just drop down a bit the contrasts in the background to put in even more depth!Gogogo mate!LOLL
07 July 2007, 03:05 PM
wow slav, looking really nice now,i like the colors u put in the scene:)damn i wish to start it off soon, cant wait,u guys are way ahead now:scream:
07 July 2007, 03:30 PM
I am really curious to see how the color pallete is going to look like.Speccially the tones of yellow and green!Good luck!
07 July 2007, 06:33 AM
i really have a strange obsession with pink and peach colors, i have no idea why. not to say that they are taboo but they seem odd especially when used with green, or at least i think it seems that way.
any who just a progress update i am cautious not to mess this up. ill try to make my best image yet. i see some obvious things i need to fix right now but those will be taken care of later in the process of detailing. :)
07 July 2007, 06:46 AM
beelow, haha thanks bee!
icedeyes, yea that helps a bit, right now i am just working on a circular composition, so the eye will just go around and around. :) lets hope i can fix the forground i am still not 100% sure if there is going to be rubble grass or just something i have yet to think up.
W-I-L i donno i hope that will get fixed with time, but i honestly have to say i have no idea what you mean by what you said.
paperclip, thank ya, ill prolly make the evil spore hunter kind of translucent closer to his chest vs his limbs that are going to be less so, but i tottaly agree with the toning down bit, its just i usually just slap a relatively saturated bright color because when i sample the colors get progressively duller and darker (because of the pencil multiply layer over top it)
MichaelZHsee mate none sense. you know you gonna rock this thing when you get started. you still gots like 4 months that's plenty of time to pump out another master piece. eh? eh? wink wink hint hint. :P
DougFerreira, i have to agree, i am kind of curious to see how this turns out as well. :)
07 July 2007, 07:47 AM
the forms in the back are more clearly defined now.. keep it up
07 July 2007, 05:10 PM
thanks mate. still a bunch of work to do though. will get some done tonight so i hope i can make with another better update.
07 July 2007, 10:07 AM
Yaroslav! Nice work, nice colors... keep it up
07 July 2007, 05:36 PM
hi slav.. duno why that was confusing.. i said i like your composition and colour choice...i hadnt read your idea and wasnt sure what the idea was.
07 July 2007, 05:41 PM
the mushrooms are looking fantastic! But I think its a bit hard to understand whats happening in the picture.
07 July 2007, 05:49 PM
This is a great idea, it's very different and clever. Your concept sketch tells a great story, can't wait to see it evolve :)
07 July 2007, 06:04 PM
The mushroom top left is great, something about the perspective and the colours, spot on. I'll watch with interest to see how it works out.
07 July 2007, 08:19 PM
I like a lot the characters, and the circle compositions gives a nice atmosphere to the organic world you are presenting here as also the dynamism in the action.
The little fur guy its awesome, and the big guy, (doní now their names yet) that its carrying in him, make a nice contrast on body weight and texture, I also like a lot the guy from were they are running from, I like white contrasts for devilish guys.
But it is my humble opinion that I canít see yet, if the composition itís helping at the moment to se whatís the strange behavior its going to be. But I also believe that, thereís more to see yet once the colors are better found.
The color palette looks fine only maybe use a bit more of pinks over greens, and tone down a bit the yellows of the main character wit some violets, off curse the BG its more coming out but I bet its because itís a larger scale of volume on contrast and shapes for the moment so you have to make color desitions for atmosphere, before going to the characters
By the way! Thanks for the support!
07 July 2007, 02:59 PM
If you're here then maybe i should try and enter as well. Goodluck bro!!!
This better be a good one or else.... heehee
07 July 2007, 04:43 PM
imperioli: thanks for droppin in and sharing your support!
W-I-L: dont worry about it i go through moment, like that one, where i just get things... that and it was probably just me just getting outta bed.
Essen: well i yea. i still need to make a final story and a whole image only exists in my head at the moment, it will get more clear with future updates i promise! :)
M477: thanks there are a few things i still need to try but i am really happy with how it reads to others. ill get some updates soon!
BaronImpossible: thanks, i am a bit worried about the foreground though some problems are starting to surface and hopefully i can find a good solution.
AxelAlonso: hey thanks for your support, i think the majority of the behavior is going to come from the underlaying story its something that i see people do everyday but i find it weird. i am sure its something i stand alone by but never the less its a mere perspective that one can see the world around him/her self.
as for the colors, hold your horses, i am not there yet :) its just flat color at the moment ill get around to it soon. and the atmosphere is something i do last becasue it obscures details. its mostly but that's getting in to work flow. don't worry i got this just sit back and enjoy the ride ill cook up something good, i hope.
Archie! haha you are late foo! where's your thread at i am gonna go comment.
07 July 2007, 09:25 AM
Dear Slav, thank you for your comment on my post...you were the 1st! Please, allow me to do the same in yours...
I like your characters, colors and the composition:thumbsup:, but, still, I cannot see what is strange in the behaviour of the poor rocky guy: he's just hungry and there's nothing strange in trying to find something to eat in the forest. Maybe there is a legal problem connected to the property of the mushroom, yeah..:shrug:But I'm sure your story will fix that!
Good luck with your work!:)
07 July 2007, 11:49 AM
I'm fascinated already Slav. Great stuff.
07 July 2007, 03:20 PM
Looks great slav!! long time since last challenge, will keep watching this. :)
07 July 2007, 01:56 AM
Agostinuke: thanks man decent advice and i respect that i been working on the image redid the concept i just gotta render it out now and get it into PS for colors. thanks alot.
Nickillus, am7: thanks fellow arteests :P thanks for the support.
on a diffrent note i had a problem with the fact that the mushroom over the rock guy's head was grabbing way too much attention and i took a break from it and tried to push the sketch/concept a bit further with this latest one. i am still in the working stage as its not even penciled yet but i had some problems with my comp and had to fix that allong with dealing with some creative blockage. but yea i gave the main characters more focus and when i up it i hope you alls will have a better idea of where i am going with it.
07 July 2007, 02:26 AM
was working on some things by no means is it done but its a sketch i used to get down the main idea. doing the line art right now. i am quite happy with the composition i think some minor things need to go but yea. that's where it going.
07 July 2007, 04:32 AM
The Spore Character is really great  and all the sketches. I liked your composition and basic colours. :)
07 July 2007, 12:46 PM
if you are thinking of switching the framing to something this tight, i would advise against it... i love the previous composition because it give a great sence of space while this feels claustophobic at best... just some suggestions...
07 July 2007, 11:24 AM
Updates, please.....I want to see where you go with this!
07 July 2007, 06:43 AM
For some reason I like more the other composition, maybe because was more dynamic and the depth of the behavior was a bit, better framed along with the bg, but since I havenít seen yet the hole thing, I could be very wrong! And the choice of colors looks good!..waiting to see were you take your wonderful spore world! :scream:
07 July 2007, 12:01 AM
well this works much better for me. i got rid of the huge eye grabbing mushroom the characters are now the main focus.
07 July 2007, 12:27 AM
I love the way this is looking, all the life in the environment. I can't wait until you get to the point where you start painting :)
07 July 2007, 07:57 AM
this sketch is looking great Slav... I just miss the sence of space that the other composition gave me... this update looks much much better with al the elements in place.... i am sure you will make it work... keep it up
07 July 2007, 08:19 AM
coming along well buddy.Keep up the good work:thumbsup:
07 July 2007, 02:48 PM
I actually rather liked the eyegrabbing mushroom- you could use it as the apex of a triangular composition, maybe with a sign pointing the way on it? It gave the whole thing a great sense of perspective, although I must admit this one helps you to focus more on the characters. Maybe something in between? I love your sketches- what do you use? It looks like a 2B and 4B on 150lb watercolor paper. :D Go slav, go slav!
07 July 2007, 06:20 AM
looking great already! Love your character sketches. The one in the bottom right caught my eye. I'll be watching for what you finish up with- best of luck to you!
07 July 2007, 09:30 AM
superb drawings! I guess, some more depth in your images can enhance the readability. But I am sure, you know that yourself... :)
keep it up!
07 July 2007, 10:14 AM
Wow! The movement and colors.. Bravo! I will have an eye on the process. Good Luck!
07 July 2007, 01:15 AM
well i got some rage in me now. if art was a fighting style i would be using berzerk right now.
i love the way this thing turned out and i am going to stick with it.
07 July 2007, 01:16 AM
well since i made a double post i guess ill use this one to reply to all you guys and gals.
Ivy00 (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=220853): well there you go. haha i started to put some color on it.
icedeyes (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=3843): thanks bud. i hope so too. i really do. i would be very sad if i messed this one up. its turning into quite the personal piece too.
CUBISIS (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=190732): thanks man. ill do my best.
paperclip (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=92679): yea i know the mushroom was cool, but i think the color is what draws you in more. in the black and white is was dominating to the point where it just made all other elements 2ndry that's why i took it out. i have to thank you too because this sketch, despite the fact that i like it, is not the best b/w rendering. i drew it mostly so that i can scan it into the computer. so i made it kind of gray and kept the texture of the pencil to work digitally. na its not i dont use anything other then HB or B but it doesnt have a bit of primacolor black in there as well. and the paper is translucent marker paper because i like to redraw stuff allot XD
littleac (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=169451): thanks, i was hoping for the character to be interesting and to have them catch your eye is all i could ask for.
Hideyoshi (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=132718): thanks it means allot comming from you. yea i do, just something i choose to ignor atm, so i can bring out the texture of the pencil a bit more.
Nemesix (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=265605): thanks for dropping in and sharing your support!
07 July 2007, 01:30 PM
the colors work very nicely to enhance the image... Its a great update Slav... Since this is a personal piece that you seem to love, i will support you in your decision to change the framing and composition since you know best how you want to evolve this... cent wait to see what you have in hold for us... keep it up
07 July 2007, 03:48 PM

HEY personal or not dont stop the crits! those help me make the image not only for myself but for others too.
07 July 2007, 07:13 AM
Thanks for the comment, Yes i've been following walrus piece because of that, He rocks!!:buttrock:
Naaa, this is your thread so let me tell you that you rock too!!:buttrock::buttrock:That and also let me tell you i can relate to the one you're doing and the kind of bright light you're using, I'm into that kind of scenes too... and will be following your advances closely.
MAN!! Mushrooms are the best!!:buttrock:
07 July 2007, 07:24 AM
Dont worry Slav... the critique will keep coming... its just that i undestand when someone wants to push his artwork one way and maybe others dont see his vision as clearly... i might imagine it one way while you might want to give it another direction... that doesn't give me something to critique, it just feels different from what i originally expected.. I will wait for an update so i can comment some more... keep it up
07 July 2007, 07:54 AM
Awesome mood! I love the strangeness of your setting.
In my opinion the image lacks a bit of contrast and saturation though. But hey ... you know your way ... walk on!
07 July 2007, 08:40 AM
nice change... cant wait to see more. i feel a bit dumb but what exactly is the idea?a rck stealing a spore? i have been looking at your thread but cant seem t see te idea explained.
07 July 2007, 05:47 PM
I like the colors so far. Especially inthe upper right hand corner. Great deaph. That piece of wood in the forground is a bit distracting at the moment. Maybe you have grander plans for it?
07 July 2007, 01:59 AM
Hey i really like the concept. Its very original. I like the rockman, its a very nice concept. One thing that bothers me a bit, is the fact that his foot looks to organic. I cant wait till you finished off
07 July 2007, 06:29 AM
Weird, beatiful and subtile, all in one package, great concept my friend
07 July 2007, 06:13 PM
I really dig the water color effect on your far right background. Throw some more contrasts on your main subject and Im sure this one is up for something good!
Good luck and keep up the RAGE!
MY STRANGE BEHAVIOR ENTRY (ILLUSTRATION)
07 July 2007, 04:54 AM
wicked choice of colours buddy! :scream:  my fav!
07 July 2007, 11:29 AM
Absolutelly fantastic drawings, sense of texture and color.
But I have to agree with icedeyes, I liked the first framing a lot more.
The first time I saw it I reacted WOW and the same is not happening with the new framing.
Best of Luck,
07 July 2007, 06:54 PM
bringing out the contrast slowly, and just randomly tightening up the whole thing.
07 July 2007, 07:23 PM
yeah man.. just kleep doing what ur doing.. might i suggesr you use more atmospheric perspective .. that might look a make this miniture world look vast and also concentrate out eye on the main chracters and point of action. other than that i love it.. you ahve a vast array of colours but its working, and should all harmonise as you progress.
07 July 2007, 08:15 PM
While I feel an awful lot seems to be going on in the image, your contrasting work with the colouring is helping to punch out the focus points. I am not sure I like the stick in the middle foreground - it pulls my eye too much.
Having said that, I love the concept and the flow of the image. Nice work. Looking forward to further updates.
07 July 2007, 08:54 PM
I gotta say that I love your update buddy. There is so much going on but all have a harmony, even at this early stage.
I agree Lync about the stick in the FG, I think it could be tilted right, and/or be shorter instead. Now it looks like the creature is about to fall on it a little bit. The warm BG on the upper right corner, ah man, looks great! I love that effect, and I can't wait to see it continue all the way to the left while turning into green/blue color.
I think you have a great sense of color, that allows you to use many of them harmoniously in the same scene. Moreover, I see different textures on different shapes and colors, which makes the sketch look very rich, even at this stage! I'd like to know how many different brushes you used to get that effect? 2, 3, 5?
Keep it up my friend, lovely image..
07 July 2007, 06:29 AM
I'like too much your style in drawing and colouring. Very very good.
07 July 2007, 08:37 AM
looking really great Slav... It seems a lit better now but i have to agree on the stick and also wanted to know what is that square boulder on the side... Finally, one advice on the bad guy... He needs a clearer outline imho because now he just blend too much into the bg... maybe a backlight?
keep it up
07 July 2007, 01:38 PM
Thanks for visiting my thread, I must say that I really like the concept also the colours too. The concept and the characters remind me the animated movie master Hayao Miyazaki's nature concepts and related creature designs. Having the similar line of vision is wonderful I think. Therefore your scene gets my attention and I liked it. I'm following to see where it goes as good as how it comes till now.
07 July 2007, 04:46 AM
Oh brigther!! !!
That blueish (i hope that's spelled right) reflexion on the arm is so nice, i love these colors, too bad they're damn hard to get right in print, but i see you don't let that put you down!
Looking really Good!!
07 July 2007, 10:16 PM
Nice to see U again
Spore concept sketch... :bounce: waiting for more :bounce:
07 July 2007, 10:46 PM
still a long way till everything is just right... but here's what i got so far.
07 July 2007, 11:40 PM
Yep indeed looking really great Slav!:bounce:
Love those colors.Somehow as the bad guy colors seems quit simular as those used on the background it seems indeed he blends into the background a bit too much, which make it a bit hard to read the pic.
What's that light bleu line just behind him?
Those mushroom's rocks!!Impossible to use these colors without eating some of them:D:D:D
Me want more:D
08 August 2007, 03:42 AM
I've been missing the progress on this thread and I'm amazed at how it's looking. This is fantastic stuff mate!
08 August 2007, 08:31 PM
SteevieWoo (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=268137): Thanks mate. seriously its been kind of crazy here, and i am just trying to get some stuff in order. printing is always a pain in the butt. i hope they do a good job on this one. i really like the way its going.
icedeyes (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=3843): hehe yea i completely agree. but even if i dont like the idea i usually give it a try anyway sometimes its better to see it drawn out then imagined. about the bad guy, yea ill think of something i hope i been trying out diffrent things for the huge thing, i am not sure myself what it is, behind him ill defiantly do something to light him up a bit more.
GumboYaYa (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=39214): thanks for droppin by, yea ill be working on that and the colors for now on. so stay tuned i guess :)
W-I-L (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=95989): Yea i still need write the story bit, ok so vaguely the rock usually is the strong guy protects these guy from harm, i mean look at em, they are fuzzy and helpless... or are they? this time around they are protecting him! :P
Dissipation (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=158713): Ill keep working on those pillar, you're right, they arnt sitting right with me. it needs something up at the front though.
crapple (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=144900): i decided to go with something else. i have not started defining his feet yet, but he is going to have fugal feet, and he's going to have stuff growing out of them. i hope it will be interesting when i get started on it.

Jeffparadox (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=174879): thanks for the support buddy. i am trying to work everything out right now, as for the brushes, i guess it all depends on the surface and material and effect i am trying to get. right now i think i have a nice 30 custom brush set. i dont think i even use the defult brushes anymore. maybe the hardround brush but i think i made my own version of that one too. XD
neurolinked (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=192044): thanks allot! thanks for droppin in and taking the time to check my thread out.
ashiataka (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=214092): wow, never expected to be compared to him. his work blows my mind. i dont get to watch his work too often but i am often inspired by fantasy. and his world is a marvel.
PSych (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=185975): hey, like wise. nice to have you here. thanks for dropping by.
OKMER (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=80724): those blue lines are the tentacles coming from the spore hunter i didnt work on them yet because i am not sure what color he is going to be. ill try to make him look translucent so he will be kind of blending in but he will have a really nice outer glow.
mdavid (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=158479): i am glad you keep coming back mate. thanks for taking the time!
OH MAN! ok i was falling behind on the replies. but never fear! i went through each and every one of you all. ill be experimenting with diffrent translucency effects for the hunter. so i donno how far ill get working on this pic but maybe ill have something cool to show in a bit.
08 August 2007, 03:42 AM
Great funky stuff! looking very cool
08 August 2007, 07:32 AM
This is looking fantastic, I so much love those mushroom fungus trees, well its just that they have a very appealing shape. And the colors wow! Love them I know they still have more to go from you. As for the characters well the design was so good I still can see that in the shapes since its all block out but I agree with George about a back source light for the villain. But the developing of the composition its going great!
08 August 2007, 07:56 AM
digital-bobert: thanks bobby! i hope San Diego was fun with lost of goodness that became of it.
Axelalonso: thanks you very kindly for your kind words ill defiantly work something out for the bad guy. i haven't really sat down to do anything yet but it'll come. it will defiantly come.
08 August 2007, 04:05 PM
I'm really busy with my crap 15 hours/day daily job so a long time since I checked this

08 August 2007, 11:34 PM

i been really busy trying to get my head around what i am going to do for the next year. how i am going to pay for school. ect. so i just had a few hours to work on this piece today. its more of the same, added detail + contrast. working on the major forms.
08 August 2007, 11:05 AM
Hi Slav, everything looks really good, some details and the contrast bring the image to light. Colours, lighting are all well done.
Keep going on!
( By the way hope everything would be well in your life as how you want. )
08 August 2007, 06:22 AM
Agostinuke: well you cant say that being busy is a bad thing :P thanks for droppin in mate.
ashiataka: thanks! but only time will tell. ill try to finish this thing before the months end. thanks for your kind words.
08 August 2007, 04:31 PM

MY STRANGE BEHAVIOR ENTRY (ILLUSTRATION)
08 August 2007, 02:33 AM
dark horizon vs light horizon
08 August 2007, 02:35 AM
idyeaah thanks man. ill work on it this week more i finally got the courage to just paint over everything i did and this is the product of that courage.
08 August 2007, 05:37 AM
Hey Slav, I really liked the atmosphere that you obtained in your scene!! its great !!
I think the light horizon it gives a bit more depth to the scene, but both are great for me. :) Looking forward for more updates !
08 August 2007, 05:46 AM
I'd say Light! more contrast with the opposite side:shrug:
08 August 2007, 07:51 AM
Go with the light. More contrast in the main character might help with the comp a little more. Try to apply a different hue within the character that is different from the background, maybe, to see how you can get that focus right there. Good stuff slav, I like the color choices.
08 August 2007, 06:07 PM
I'd say light too... looking a lot better now...
09 September 2007, 11:35 PM
I'd say light as well since it add more atmosphere , and it guives more negative space to your characters:)...this is going so well! Great mushroomy fantastic!
09 September 2007, 02:57 PM
hey buddy, are we gonna see how this story ends? hope we will. hungry for progress...
09 September 2007, 09:32 PM
hey bro! really like your new update! :bounce: the light horizon works well! :p
waiting for more! ;) cheers bro!
09 September 2007, 01:55 AM
i am sorta typing with one hand here... but i broke my drawin arm 5 years ago and suddenly about 2 weeks ago it decided to shift. so i been in therapy for a bit. ill start working on it again soon.
09 September 2007, 05:43 AM
really sorry about your arm dude :( hope you get well soon :( take care!
09 September 2007, 06:21 AM
thanks man but its no big deal it feels like when your leg falls asleep for a bit. only in this case its my hand and instead of a while its a few days. its still a bit numb but its getting better each day.
10 October 2007, 04:39 AM
The atmosphere in your work is great as are the mushrooms. Hope your hand is getting better and best of luck.
10 October 2007, 11:37 PM
i wasnt happy with the saturation at all when i picked up to work on the image yesterday, so went in and redrew allot of the dull gray areas to make them brighter and more saturated.
also decided to change the composition a bit. i wanted the spore creatures to be a bit more active. so i am probably going to have them attacking on the of testicles from the hunter guy.
i love this renewed vigor. and more importantly i am happy i can draw once more!
10 October 2007, 12:20 AM
Good call on the saturation. It brings the foreground to the fore, and makes the exquisite background all the more moody.
Your picture does seem to have more energy now.
I hope you can finish in the remaining days.
10 October 2007, 12:54 AM
Good to see you're here again Slav! I hope your hand is doing fine! Now, this is when you pull a 'sport-movie-style-last-minute-comeback' and take the gold!!
Cheers my friend!
10 October 2007, 04:39 PM
Korendo: thanks for droppin in and sharing your kind words.
Ordibble P. Lop: yea you dont say. i hope i will finish as well. ill probably be working on it tonight and tomorrow and if i have time for the rest of the week. crosses fingers.

10 October 2007, 05:53 PM
This one is going great I can see. Like the creatures, colors and composition.
Rock on - do finish - and good luck!
10 October 2007, 06:48 PM

Jeffparadox: sh*t man you dont say! its been too long and now i gotta scramble.
cant seem to get to the page for the updates. i hope it will be back online soon.
10 October 2007, 05:44 AM
filling in and defining more of the overall image. just thought i would get an update going for the end of the day.
10 October 2007, 03:03 PM

10 October 2007, 02:16 AM
latest update. thats that for tonight. my head hurts too much to write anything more significant.
10 October 2007, 11:45 AM
Thanks for your recent encouragement. Your work is looking great - certainly strange but beautiful too. I really love the background - it'll be good to see it with all the foreground elements complete which looks like it shouldn't take you too much longer. I hope your head's feeling better. Good luck over the next few days.
10 October 2007, 03:17 PM

10 October 2007, 03:31 AM
After fiddling with the image for the last few days I decided to call it done. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did making it.
Ordibble P. Lop
I just wanted to say thanks to all you guys, for encouraging me and giving tips and crits.
Goro Fujita, Blaz Porenta, Michael Dashow, Bobby Chiu These guys really kept me going, right through artists block and everything. They are a great inspiration.
I guess I should give some credit to Jacquie Jeanes. Sheís more of a behind the scenes kind of gal.
-- THE STORY! --
SPORE: A Documentary of ďA Wild out of Wack!Ē
At a staggering 22 queefles in height the Roccaii of the Northern Grasslands is an impressive beast. The Roccaii is a keen predator, and an eager opportunist always searching for a meal and eating with a gluttonous appetite that remains unrivaled in all of nature. An omnivore, it will eat anything from plants and fruit, but prefers the taste of meat when it is available. Despite itís poor eyesight the Roccaii is a formidable predator; itís extremely sensitive sense of smell and acute hearing more than compensate.
Despite its predatory nature, the Roccaii has managed to form one of natureís most spectacular symbiotic relationships. The Roccaii serves as stony protector to the fluffy and timid Sporus species (more commonly known as Spores). This behavior is due to a very important fungus that grows from the Roccaiiís many cracks and crevices. Scientists have yet to identify the origins of this fungus, but it appears to plague all of the Roccaii. The fungus is only kept from devouring the Roccaii (subsequently splitting it into many pieces) by the Spores tender care. They prune rigorously and use it in their courtship ceremonies and later as food for their young. A single Roccaii may support a colony of as many as 50 Spores.
The Roccaii are characterized with an unflinching loyalty to the Spores. They are courageous and as solid as aÖ wellÖa rock. Thus it is certainly unfathomable behavior indeed that is depicted above. One can only speculate on the cause of the Roccaiiís cowardice and the sudden bravery of the usually passive, plant-eating Spores. Though it is quite common for the Spores to be under attack (in this particular case from the species Tenticlium, a forest lurker who lashes out from the shadows to trap his prey) it is most uncommon for them to defend themselves. Perhaps it is some instinctive process; perhaps it is a breakdown in the symbiosis between the Roccaii and the Spores. Regardless of what it is, it is almost without a doubt very, very strange behavior.
10 October 2007, 04:00 AM
Excellent finish! You've produced a wonderful image, full of interest and depth and colour. I love the way you paint nature: plants and soil and the complex play of light and shadows. I like your story that goes with it too.
It's getting mighty hard to guess who's going to win this challenge - I guess it always is, but yours is another strong entry. Good luck with the voting
10 October 2007, 05:17 PM
mdavid, thanks man! i tried my best and hopefully it will show.
10 October 2007, 10:34 PM
hey man! This developed real nice!
I really like the background with those sweet colors. Mushromes are dope (eherm...:P)!
Good work on the depth also! Well done, buddy!
10 October 2007, 04:24 PM
badum chee... nice pun. XD thanks allot man i am really glad it didnt get desaturated :scream:
10 October 2007, 06:48 AM
Hey slav, It was just a week ago or so that I was wondering where you were and if you'd make it for the end and now I'm glad to see you did just in time and then some more....
Nice, really nice documental, I enjoyed it a lot, is really strange how so different creatures go symbiotic but is even stranger how you depicted them in the moment of reversing the roles, I have to say I was a little confused with it until now ... those little spores show some guts every now and then, i guess.. :D
As I said a lot of time before, your background colors just blow my head, they're so rich, and those mushrooms look really big! the sense of depth is great too.
so thanks for the geology/botanic/zoology-all-mixed-together lesion, this beats the discovery channel!
10 October 2007, 02:51 PM
Great entry Slav, I totally agree with Mdavid about your impressionist skills. Such a lovely environment, and a circus of colors and textures. I like your story too, and wish you the best of luck in the judging system.
I'm glad you could finish this piece, would be a shame :D
11 November 2007, 07:01 PM
SteevieWoo: if you only knew. thanks for the support, i was kind of worried i wasn't going to make it there myself. even if it was for a little while. but i thankfully managed to break my streak of crappy unfinished paintings with this one. that space opera really bummed me out and what's worse is that i really liked that image but didn't get to finish. that kind of was my main motivation for this one, to hand something in that was done. and half way decent. btw I LOVE the discovery channel. LOVE IT!
Jeffparadox: thanks allot man. it was quite painful to finish but i was really worried about my wrist being one of the major factors that would of caused that. despite the fact that i am falling apart like an old man thankfully it wasn't and i am all in one piece. with that said lets never discuss it again. and prey that the problem never resurfaces.
11 November 2007, 03:50 AM
congratulations bro! :applause: damn! love that rocky work! the way you done the shadows, lighting and texture is really amazing! very crisp in fact! the entire environment works very well here! especially at the horizon! .. there's so much in your work! love it man! good luck with the judging! you rock! :buttrock:
11 November 2007, 04:20 AM
Cosmic, a very unique world! Ditto on the positive comments on the plants, atmosphere, and textures. Great to read the cool original story behind this image, best of luck
11 November 2007, 12:19 PM
The final result looks great :) I like the colors you used and the perspective. Well done and good luck!
11 November 2007, 08:37 PM
