Hooray! Such great timing- I just finished my exams and flew over to America. I've just settled in and now the new challenge is beginning! :D

What a great theme- I'm really excited about this!!

06 June 2007, 05:17 PM
Hey, Theresa! Welcome back! It's been a long time... so where in America are you living now? I take it it's some place with Internet access again? :) It'll be good to have you in the Challenge!

06 June 2007, 05:20 PM
I'm in mid-michigan, staying with my brother for the holidays. Yes, it's great seeing all my favorite people around here entering this challenge. I'm heading over to your thread now! I'm rather too excited, just logged on a minute ago and saw the new challenge wås up!

06 June 2007, 05:24 PM
Hey Theresa good to see you again :) wish you good luck and hope you have loads of fun!

06 June 2007, 05:27 PM
Can't wait to see what you come up with!

06 June 2007, 10:02 PM
My first idea so far is in production using the fancy schmancy technique of pencil and paper...

1) A little boy playing a brass instrument (tuba? french horn) and tons of sealife and over the top animals are coming out with the music. I mean wildebeest, oysters, antelope, kittens, anything! The little boy (girl?) is red with effort and not really paying attention to the animals, (s)he is just pouring himself/herself entirely into the music.

2) a little fella challenging a tattooed giant using only a water gun.

3) A woman frozen, suddenly realising that she's been chomping on the flowers that her boyfriend just gave her. An offshoot is a businessman chewing tulips absentmindedly while on the phone to a high-powered client.

4) monsters crying inconsolably while being told off by a little toddler.

5) A drug addict injecting themselves, only to be confronted with electric sparks and a circuit blowout.

Which ones hit your fancy so far?

06 June 2007, 11:34 PM
good luck Theresa! =) your ideas sound great so far

06 June 2007, 11:57 PM

06 June 2007, 06:18 PM
More ideas while I get the scanner working...

5) Child/adult role reversal.... maybe too cliche though?
6) A puffin on a typewriter, this would be far better if it was a photorealistic puffin writing for puffin are all written by the same puffin, you know. :scream:
7) A surgeon reading from a cookbook during an operation.

06 June 2007, 03:12 AM

06 June 2007, 11:10 AM
The surgeon reading from a cookbook while operating :D

06 June 2007, 03:26 PM
I'll do my best to make you go awwwww! and I can't wait to go oooohh on yours! lol..good luck Theresa! You've got great ideas..i think I'm leaning towards 4!

06 June 2007, 04:19 PM (

I'm trying to get my scanner working. Meanwhile, here's a quickie, this fella is being controlled by the monster...I'm not really sure whether this fits in well enough with the theme though? Also, I think I remember someone else having a similar painting in one of the previous challenges... hmm... anyway, when the scanner works, you'll see the other ones I've put down on paper!

06 June 2007, 06:52 PM
Heeey, puppetry! You can develop some nice concepts out of that.
It could definately fit the theme, like if you have someone acting really strange, but they're actually being controlled from the shadows by some creatures/people.

That monster could be after something weird, and uses the person to get it? Making the person behave strangely in the process?

Your other concepts are pretty good too!

06 June 2007, 08:03 PM
nice ideas you've listed. I wish you all the best for your entry. I like your initial sketch !!

06 June 2007, 08:56 PM

06 June 2007, 04:55 PM (

Concept- bunnies recharging the giant duracell bunny.....

Imon- I like the idea of the monster being after something weird...will think about that one.
Grin3d-thanks! I usually go through tons of initial sketches before I find something that I like...which usually is one of the first ones..
Okmer- cheers. :D. It always seems to come through no matter how much I try to get rid of it. :scream:
Queenie: People seem to like no. 4 a lot. I might go with that one...we'll see..
Freeman: I love your stuff, I can't wait to see what you come up with. Glad you liked my sketch. :)
Britta: Er ist wichtig in der monster welt, also warum er mit menschen spielen...unseren fate ist in ihren Hands! sorry for poor german, really need practice!

06 June 2007, 04:52 AM
the self-exposure thing looks funny
I prefer it over the monster-puppeteer

06 June 2007, 01:46 PM
Hiho and welcome to the challenge... your last post... I hope I get the meaning of it :) Give me your fur I`m naked? :)

06 June 2007, 02:26 PM
Cool stuff..........keep it coming.

06 June 2007, 08:41 PM
tnx for replying in my thread :)

I like your sketches, personaly i would go for the one with the bunny recharging
maybe you could make a war scene out of it so the bunnies wear army clothing and bombs are dropping from the sky :D

keep up the good work :)

06 June 2007, 10:38 PM
I really don't have a clue what's ging on in the last one, but it sure looks funny :D

the thumbnails on your challenge page. Love the bunny sketch;)
Keep em coming and good luck on the challenge Theresa!

07 July 2007, 06:05 PM
Hehe...I think I like the second idea the most.
For the last sketch. U could use Mammoths' tusks to make "M" from the McDonald logo.

07 July 2007, 06:27 PM
Theresa!! nice sketches ! I like your ideas, they are funny and originel!
:scream: wooohooo! :applause::applause::applause:

07 July 2007, 10:08 PM
how do morks taste?

07 July 2007, 11:42 PM
MichaelZHSee: thanks, I like the palette too, hopefully the final image will have a similar ish palette.
Neville: Fun is the name of the game. :D Along with self improvement and all that jazz.
Slav: I have another secret up my sleeve. Hang around and you could see it! Must say I love your pencilwork though. I'm quite jealous!
NR43: self exposure is always fun ;)
Theuni: That's the point of the strange're not really supposed to know the reason why, it should keep you guessing!
paulwdavidson: my little whaleboy, thank you. I love your concept, I hope you're still working away at it!
ravenslayer: my pleasure. I love your little shark. Great idea bout the war scene, will think about it....
Marlon: You're sweet when you're confused. :D I like the way it's hard to figure out what's going on...isn't it strange behavior?!
Fl3wk: :beers: cheers, man.
Mvdb: Get back to your entry! The world needs another update!
Salamander: Hopefully I'll have more up here before too long- I'm going to work on a couple more tonight.
Goro: our little edna mode. :D The bunny idea seems like something bobby would do, he could do it far better than I could...
JakkasS: That's actually a really good idea...will definitely consider it!
fii7e: long time no see! what have you been up to?
Russel-Nash: If I went with that one, it would need a huge revamp...hmm..
Vahn:Like chicken, apparently. That's what the psychic told me when she channeled Muh Duh Nuhl Duh who is the main proprietor of this restaurant. :D

This picture shall forevermore remind me why I should never paint when hungover.

07 July 2007, 12:36 AM (

Three-way duels are in my nature. :D

07 July 2007, 01:01 AM
Aww mannnnn... I miss doing those daily sketch avatar wars... god, the mayhem ... :D

Good luck Theresa!

07 July 2007, 03:18 PM
Hello Theresa.

I really like the human puppet with the bot concept. Perhaps it's the composition or its simplicity and its surreal quality, I feel it's the best of your sketches. :)

Good luck.

07 July 2007, 10:42 PM
see theresa! if you put me & goro in your painting it becomes a masterpiece right away :D
 :applause:

07 July 2007, 11:34 PM
You have a nice style, but I've seen the child in the first picture many times. The Evil Crazy Baby with many faces hehe. Good luck.

07 July 2007, 11:37 PM
Nice work! And... Ahh, that baby made me laugh!!!:D

07 July 2007, 02:22 AM
Hahaha, thanks for posting these, they made me chuckle. That baby in my avatar is my version of him. :scream:

The nerd-circle is complete!
I have a total of 3 sketches in the works, hopefully ready before too long.

07 July 2007, 04:55 AM
You have a very surreal style there :bounce:
I like number 4. Makes me think of the Monsters Inc concept art section of the pixar exhibition I went to.

07 July 2007, 04:04 PM (

See if you can figure out what's going on here....

07 July 2007, 04:15 AM
My first idea so far is in production using the fancy schmancy technique of pencil and paper...

1) A little boy playing a brass instrument (tuba? french horn) and tons of sealife and over the top animals are coming out with the music. I mean wildebeest, oysters, antelope, kittens, anything! 5b) Child/adult role reversal.... maybe too cliche though?

6) A puffin on a typewriter, this would be far better if it was a photorealistic puffin writing for puffin are all written by the same puffin, you know. :scream:
7) A surgeon reading from a cookbook during an operation.
Which ones hit your fancy so far?

well, i didn't read the whole thread yet, but my opinion is worthless enough to be ignored anyway.
I see the possibility to win only with 4, storycal (yes, that is a valid description in my world ... "storycal = concerning the story".).
The other ideas aren't half bad, too, but either lack story-components or are hard to transpose.

07 July 2007, 08:36 AM
I'm really looking forward to seeing where this goes. Great start. Is there going to be some as yet not shown element in the centre somewhere?

07 July 2007, 02:50 AM
This is very interesting! Can't wait to see more :)

07 July 2007, 01:25 PM
lol clippy you made me sit here with that silly grin, priceless start ^^ love your initial roughs, such a variety of silly pixels :p mooooore mooooore *hahaha love that pink thing left ahahah so nasty ^^

07 July 2007, 03:04 PM (

This little fella is threatening the sumo wrestler with an octopus gun...pretty odd... but my mind is almost made up to go with no. 4. I just want to try out a few other sketches before I settle on a final concept that I'll run with until the end! I'll reply to everyone soon- I went camping this weekend, hence my lack of updates.

07 July 2007, 03:14 PM (

Here's a very rough sketch of no. 4, not exactly what I want though, it'd change a lot as I go through the stages over the next few months...

07 July 2007, 03:33 PM (

The father and son switch places...'Hey, you! More milk over here!'

07 July 2007, 03:35 PM (

The father and son switch places...'Hey, you! More milk over here!'

07 July 2007, 03:37 PM (

This one is 'tubanimals'- the animals come pouring out of the tuba while playing. I can imagine this would be a great way to practice my animal drawings...

07 July 2007, 05:42 PM
I lie this last idea. It could be very poetic.

07 July 2007, 06:31 PM
I love this latest idea, too, Theresa. Maybe give it a lotmore room to the left for the animals. Would she have a music stand? Maybe one of the animals can be hlpful and help her turn pages (or is that too silly?) Anyhow, great concept!

07 July 2007, 07:31 PM
Here's a rough b&w version... mike, I liked your idea about the music stand, I included it on the left being fought over by two dogs (you might not be able to make them out, they're really just there as a placeholder to jog my memory) and a goat chewing on the pages...but of course, all this is subject to change. :)

odd, this one doesn't seem to be showing up....

07 July 2007, 07:35 PM
(, double post. Please ignore.

07 July 2007, 07:37 PM (

07 July 2007, 04:51 AM
love the tubanimals concept. the concept is very strong n sweet~!

I am more happy to see this rough sketch becoming a complete painting~!

Sweet ideas to the rest as well.
But only this one attract me to post my first reply in ur thread!..hee.

07 July 2007, 06:20 AM
this is gonna be great! very playful cant wait to see more.

07 July 2007, 06:34 AM
I like it a lot, it looks very original to me.

07 July 2007, 09:19 AM
coming along well.Best of luck buddy:thumbsup:

07 July 2007, 04:21 PM (

Just a few random colour experiments. I want to settle on a general feel for the whole painting before I do more detailed concept drawings. They're numbered 1-6 top to bottom, left to right, with no. 6 being just the greyscale. I think I might just have grey in the background, that might bring the painting 'out' some more.

07 July 2007, 04:35 PM
I like #2 and #4, but hope you'll add more contrast in general... will you also do a value study? Or is #6 it? If so, try thinking about using more contrast to pull out the guirl, so that she doesn't get lost in the flood of animals, and the tuba, which would be shiny.
Also, try seeing what you think of the composition flipped, so that the motion is going towards the right.
Have fun...!

07 July 2007, 05:45 PM (

What happens when your mailbox falls in love with you?

07 July 2007, 06:02 PM
I like nr 2 and 3
I agree the focus should be more on the girl
wonderful idea btw...

07 July 2007, 11:46 PM (

Actually, now that I think upon it, a lighter version works sort of better, doesn't it? It means I can use stronger, more saturated colours on the subjects.

07 July 2007, 12:04 AM (

I took a few suggestions, made it a bit wider and flipped it. I prefer the flipped version...better flow. Thanks, walrus! OOhhh...just had an idea- I can put in cgtalk animal avatars- a gorilla (goro) rabbit (vahn) and walrus! If anyone can think of any more animal avatars, please let me know!

07 July 2007, 12:50 AM
I'm liking how this is developing... nice work!
The elephant feels like it's behind the tuba, not coming out of it. It would be nice to move it back into the bell. This would hopefully have the added effect of not intersecting the girls' head, so that she could have white space all around it and a stronger silhouette.

Also, compositionally, the whole thing is feeling somewhat monolithic right now. What bout trying a stream of aniamls going all the way off the page on the right, to indicate an even larger number of creatures and a longer song? You might also want to think about keeping the lines of movement flowing from the tuba towards the lower right. Right now, compositionally, the elephant's trunk and the giraffe's neck curl the eye back in to look at the girl - it's a good technique, but it deadens the motion somewhat, and keeps us from focusing much on anythign below the giraffe neck for too long. Anyhow, that's more of a matter of personal preference, where and how you want to lead the viewer's eye. Just one more thing to think about... good luck!

07 July 2007, 02:17 AM
hey Terresa - ur getting really good!

07 July 2007, 07:35 AM
Hi Theresa, that's looking really good. Please put my avatar into it, he feels lonely...
I think you have a great idea and could develop into quite a strong image. I agree with walrus about the flowing of the animals comparing it to a song that is playing, I would add some more space to the top and bottom of the image though to let it breathe a bit more, but that's only my opinion.
I wanna see more...:)

07 July 2007, 07:59 AM
ya. a good composition can really make ur concept look good.Best of luck buddy:thumbsup:

07 July 2007, 08:49 AM
Very nice development here!
Mike has some great points.
Maybe imagine the flow of animals as a flow of water going in one direction. Making elegant waves... and perhaps you could try and deform the animals (a bit), to make them go better with the flow.
This would also make the painting more surreal and dream like I think.

07 July 2007, 10:21 AM
Time to catch up on my replies! Sorry for the non-replies, but I'm training for a half marathon, working as an au-pair and going camping on the weekends...

I'm glad I entered this challenge though. I REALLY missed my wacom during the college term- it just kept whispering and I just didn't have the time for it!

Here goes! Thanks to everyone who replied, particularly those with crits.
Yrindale: Danger is my middle name. :D Well, my nephew's. I'm not joking, either. It's not on his baptism cert, but it's on his birth certificate!
Marlon: I think the bot is self-cleaning (I hope)
Zweidee: You should participate in some avatar wars- it's where you get thirsty for pixelated blood....
Goro: Not my cape! Tell your bot to put a towel in his booty..
Darksuit: Thank you. Good luck yourself. It's all wars around here though, you need to be quick on the draw. (sorry, bad pun)
Joel: You should get back to them, a few minutes out of your day is enough to get people to remember you with regret. :D
Ekah: How about this one?
Vahn: I'll try your theory with this one. :scream:
KoolKonrad: My favorite is the michael moore one. :)
Squishme: Your name is Dale Thomas? Just as well it isn't Dale Williams, eh? Thank you for your compliment, I love pixar's concept art, they always manage to look so playful and serious at the same time, I have no idea how they do that....
Anapast: I'm not here to win (although I wouldn't say no if they offered me a prize :p) but to develop my skills and hang out with my friends. Story is paramount, isn't it? I hope what I have going now is a good story, I kinda like it..
Nickillus: I was going to set up a bit of a boomerang thing, but I decided that that painting just didn't have enough emotion to carry it through properly.
Kei dear: I love your sketches, it's too bad you aren't doing this one with me. :D
Sacha: I know how you love your nasty pink things! Yours is coming along great, I'm going to go visit it after I finish this.
Authentic: thank you!
Dinodog: I hope the development attracts you more...
Slav: Playful is the mood I'm looking for, somewhere between playful and poetic. Hard to get it right, isn't it??
Micro: thank you . :)
Cubisis: I need all the luck I can get :D
NR43: Hopefully there's more focus on the girl now. Is there? Or do you have any ideas as to how I can do that?
Mike á gra: Your crits as usual go in straight for the kill, which is the way I like them! :D I agree with you about the composition, I need to play around with it a lot, not have it quite so flat and introduce more depth into the whole thing. Moving the elephant is a good idea, I'll give it a try, that would be a good way to bring more attention to the girl. I'm trying to think of names for her, suggestions?
Gord: improvement is the name of the game, so thank you! Aren't you entering the challenge yourself?
Ramitxon: I'll see if I can find a place for a tiny little blue bear :) I want to compare it to a song, make it like a visual version of a song. I'm thinking possibly shostakovich?
Cubisis: Hopefully I can pull off a good composition, it's always been my weakest area (besides pretty much everything)
Marlon: I like the animal-deforming idea, will try that out and see how it looks...

07 July 2007, 11:27 AM fast updating wif a completely different angle.

This Angle looks wiser to input much more animals to paint as wild as u want to enjoy it!.
(Actually i still like the previous sketch, maybe the above view showing more dynamic flow to the scene?!)

I would like to see penguin~.. Ok man..i am lame. Lately too much Penguin CGI around oredi.
Maybe a Penguin slipper for the gal..hehe.

Maybe the trumpet can become animal too like Snake..(sorry i forgot what is Big snake called).

It would be convincing if the little gals are pressing on somethingto let viewer imagining she is playing a tunes instead of holding a instrumental. (The gesture when ppl playing trumpet)

Ignore me..i am getting excited wif this concept u r handling only.

07 July 2007, 11:54 AM (

Opened up the composition and added some butterflies and smaller random creatures to bring the eye around some more. Yay or nay?

07 July 2007, 12:11 PM
Ey oop Theresa! I like this loads! Great illustrative quality and theme. I agree however with the comments about 'flow'. At the moment the animals are all grouped together in a mass, perhaps a more wave like formation would be more aesthetic?

07 July 2007, 01:21 PM (

Tried your suggestion, Aly- I made it a bit more wave-like, do you think this looks better? Or is it too predictable looking?

07 July 2007, 01:33 PM (

I rather like this composition- I think I might go with this. My next step will be to do a few different concepts for the girl- she has to be just right!

07 July 2007, 01:44 PM
Theresa, I really like the girl with animals version. It's your best one. Glad you came back to this concept. There's nothing wrong with exploring. It's better to have more to choose from even if you end up going back to previous ideas. ;)

I agree with Walrus's comment about the movement. In fact, I just realized I agree with a lot of his comments in other threads too. :D He gives very good constructive criticism.

What I liked in your initial sketch was that you had this movement that was like music playing. The animals seemed weightless and flyed away from the edge of the frame - kind of like feather in the wind. At the moment, the animals seem heavy and have settled back down on the ground. It's as if music ended. I think that's what Walrus meant by "monolithic." I hope this doesn't sound like jibberish and hopefully will make sense. :)

Here are a few concepts for the girl- 1-4 left to right- with a riverdance version at the very end. Hey, I'm Irish, I can do that!

07 July 2007, 08:40 PM
Ekah - thank you, that's very kind of you to say! :)

Theresa - Actually, I think I like the girl in the original mock-ups more than any of these new ones. Sometimes you just get it right the first time around. (But you need to keep trying just to be sure of that!) The red contrasts with the environment more than the green. The third one looks just plain unhappy, the second one's head is too small... and the first one is best because it looks the most like the original one. :)

As for the motion, it's still being curved inwards by the giraffe's neck - have you considerred flipping it horizintally and having it stretch out towards the side of the screen more. Some long flowing lines for the waves - whether they're the lines from the giraffe's nech, a flying snake, the tail and back of a Pointer (or Irish Setter if you must), the curve of a bird's wing - could all help to add the more wave-like impressions. You're doing it in the upper left well, it just might be worth experimenting with more...

I love the girl on the left, but with the orange hair from the girl on the right. ;) good stuff!

07 July 2007, 09:44 PM
Comedy version, for fun:

07 July 2007, 11:56 PM (

Like this, Mike? This is the original girl concept, up a little.

07 July 2007, 12:23 AM
My favorite so far!

07 July 2007, 12:25 AM (

I'm taking Marlon's and Mike's suggestions and playing around with the flow- I'm not really happy with this though, it doesn't really seem right, but hey, I have 3 months left to get it just so. :)

07 July 2007, 12:46 AM
you do really good clippy ! you make me laugh !:applause:
I like the last girl concept!
I was only 2 times home in the last 2 weeks and I where allways excited to see what happend in your thread!:)
Maybe I join the contest too, but I have to take it seriously  not like the last one.

gogo clippy!

Such a beautifully strange image! I really really like the style and composition. I think the tights really are awesome too - I know it is a small thing but I like them. The animals are wonderful too!

I am definatly going to keep an eye on your progress! Bravo!

07 July 2007, 08:49 AM
Wonderful! Realy wonderful!!!
Like your style much.
The last version works “more easily” than the others.
But pleased me with the other versions, that the animals the soil had more massively affected.
Now it looks rather like a song. A melody. About animals.

Go on! This my favorite!

07 July 2007, 10:45 AM
The animal flow works really well! I like it a lot.

07 July 2007, 10:49 AM
Just an extra comment.

The Tuba doesn't seem to be working properly.
The part of the instrument that surrounds the girl doesn't seem to be connected with the part that she blows. That would also help to improve the flow.

07 July 2007, 12:23 PM
hi paperclip!
I like this new version, I also think the flow is better... maybe you can make the animals 'land' a bit further than where they were before, I think they were too close to the girl IMHO
I love that new elephant smiling head, hehe...
good luck with it!

07 July 2007, 04:25 PM
hey ..
I like the 4th idea... monster one..{Sounds interesting}...
Best of luck...for the challenge...

07 July 2007, 01:47 AM
You are the WALRUS, Goo goo g'choob: Glad you like this girl!
fii7e: You need to enter...I'd be glad to help motivate you! I'm flattered that you like this thread, I'm trying to make it entertaining for everyone! Have a cup of coffee, there's a comfy chair over there just for you...
Halvarado: cheers! I love stripy tights, I wish I could wear them but it's hard to look like a serious pharmacist when you're wearing stripy tights...hmm...though there's always going out clothes. :)
Jakyll: danke schon :D Um Tieren beginnt das leben (und lieden).. Mensch und Natur ist ein mit unserer musik, ja? Einmal mehr, entschuldigung sie fur meinen sprache!
Zeoyn: Wow, thanks for pointing that out- I hadn't actually noticed it! Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees....
Foot-man: I'm glad you like the changes, it still has a looong way to go though!
Assassin: I like that one too, but I think for this challenge this concept will be more fun to work on... I'm saving the other one for later! :)

Ok, so I was coming over to the computer when I saw my painting from this angle and it seemed to look better, so I grabbed my camera and took a photo of what was up on the screen. Do you think it looks better this way?

07 July 2007, 12:41 PM
Well, maybe the coposition is not so horizontal, and once you rework the proportions of the girl it could look fantastic.

07 July 2007, 01:07 PM
According to me the long version was better.

07 July 2007, 02:34 PM
Wow, I'm not sure what to say ... it might be so strange that I don't know how to handle this.

It does have something classic to it. Some echo's of Dali, maybe some Bosch ... As for the size, the longer version looks more like the animals are blasted out, whereas in the shorter version it looks more like the animals ooze out.

Good luck withthe challenge paperclip!

07 July 2007, 10:56 PM
More lovely and fascinating ideas Theresa. Excellent.

07 July 2007, 11:53 PM
might be hard but this one is pretty damn close to nailing it on the head.

i go away for like a week to work on my piece, come back and see massive updates. ill have to skim through the thread but i since i like pictures much more ill just give you my thoughts... ready? ... you listening?

the idea is wicked. but i do tend to lean towards the wide version more as opposed to the squashed version. even if you do fix most of the distortion i think it would be too crammed the way the tuba is exploding maybe experiment with things twisting and winding different ways and junk? (my critical 2 sects)

07 July 2007, 03:00 PM
Wonderful updates. The girl, the composition, everything is really starting to click. I love the movement in the wide version. The comedy version are a lot of fun. :D I think you have something special going on here. Lovely entry. :)

07 July 2007, 10:37 PM
Ramixon: I have a feeling I'm going with the original composition- it goes a bit more with what I originally had in mind with the animals anyway.
Authentic: I agree with you! :D

RicoD: You haven't seen my strangest painting yet, have you?

This is strange's too bad I can't submit it for the challenge (revamped and improved, of course) I love Bosch's stuff, as well as Dante's books....hmm...see a theme? I want a cross between blasting and oozing, it's a fine balance.

Nickillus: Thank you!:scream:

Slavmeister: I'm going to take your advice about the twisting and turning and junk and play around some more with the animal soup. Suggestions for junk? Musical instruments? The kitchen sink?

Ekah: Everything should have a comedy version. :D

Sorry for not updating today, but I've been working on it in my head. I've settled for the long version and every time I go for a walk I look for inspiration.

07 July 2007, 12:02 AM
Good ideas! :) I like the moster with the human-puppet :) Interesting one. Good Luck!

07 July 2007, 01:30 AM
well i was watching a show about Bernini and i think if you have never seen (which i doubt) his mother teresa levitating with an angle by her side holding an arrow head

i think that would be a good reference to start with. i am referring more towards how one figure blends with the other using just drapery.

but i guess that is a subjective way to look at it. personally i would check out roots... they make CRAZY patterns.

ps. that last one. BAHAHAHA! priceless.

07 July 2007, 02:18 AM
alice in wonderland meets guy richi for a shroom salad. thats the best way i can describe your work. goodstuff.

07 July 2007, 08:00 AM
Hi Theresa! Funny sketches. Good luck on challenge! :)

08 August 2007, 08:41 PM
Strange and lovely! Love to see this one painted. I think it'd be quite interesting.

08 August 2007, 06:32 PM
I like the angle of the squashed one. This is a great thread, really interesting development.

08 August 2007, 11:57 PM
It's been far too long since I've touched base with my wacom- been travelling around the US a bit (Chicago/Detroit area), so I'm back!

Problem is...I don't know where to start again now! I've sort of lost my train of thought. Ideas??

08 August 2007, 01:15 AM
Yap,feels nice indeed this angle!Just that the horn against the left side of the canvas feels a bit strange..Great work!Keep us posted!(stole that one from Icedeyes!! it:grin:)Cheers!Indeed totaly priceless that last one!

08 August 2007, 04:34 AM
Hey Theresa,

Nice to see ou again. Get sketches and development.

Looking forward to more

09 September 2007, 02:55 PM
This is looking great! Though I personally much prefer the image before you took the photo from the monitor... IE the unsquashed one. Looks better. the twisting animals coming from the instrument look great

09 September 2007, 08:02 PM
Everything looks great to me, and I'm partial to the short composition for the tuba kid; I think it works better with a distorted angle. It's a matter of tastes, I guess...

On the other hand, and even though it might be a dated discusion now, I'd love to see idea n#7 come to an illustration, or the lady chomping flowers. I just love those "frozen in time" moments when it comes to a picture.

Good luck with the challenge!

10 October 2007, 01:12 PM
are you still in this contest Theresa? :)

10 October 2007, 02:59 PM
note to self: -must give my challenge buddy a kick in the butt.

10 October 2007, 04:22 AM

10 October 2007, 04:23 AM

10 October 2007, 05:52 AM
only maybe change it so she's sucking the horn, instead of blowing into it.

10 October 2007, 05:53 AM
Heheh... Squib, you naughty boy...

10 October 2007, 06:35 PM (

As per squib, here's the horn being blown the right way around...
