07-02-2007, 07:24 PM
Decided to scrap the monster idea as I wanted to do something different for this challenge. Took me a while to get some idea of what I wanted to really do.
I am going to do flying turtles making a strafing run with fish bubble guns. Anyway here is a quick sketch of a flying turtle.
07-03-2007, 06:16 PM
ok, sort of have a concept for this idea now...
07-04-2007, 07:51 AM
HEY, I cant belive the great world Artist is here! and of course you already maked us happy with your sketches :)

You are full of ideas! I like your kid under the bed idea and the last Life Insurance one, they have big potential in them. Can't wait for development!
07-05-2007, 10:25 AM

Timur - Thank you , I might have one more concept to throw out here before I decide
Sasha - hey, great to see you back to musi :) do you have a thread in this one?
07-05-2007, 11:03 AM

07-05-2007, 12:34 PM
Hey HEy, such a nice concept :D but i this yes it look more like Lost , that the duck is using map is strange too :D
hehe Waiting for the next update,
Good Luck and Take Care :D
07-05-2007, 12:39 PM
Drawing strange monsters again, are we? :D
07-05-2007, 12:43 PM
Thanks Timur :) Think my next update might be to do a bit more with the lemming concept see how that develops when I add some color and a few more things.
lol yes coCoKNIght I seem to have this thing for strange monsters :)
07-05-2007, 01:15 PM
Interesting sketches! That beaver looks really threatening, they must be verry carefull with trusting their live him:eek: Keep it up!And good luck!!
07-05-2007, 01:27 PM
Hi, Linda. Good to see you here!
I like the general concept of the lemmings - it sounds like you do too - but try exploring with the theme a little more. Do you need the entire office whose window just happens to look out on the grisly scene? What if it were more implied... such as if the enterprising lemming had merely set up an desk along the side of a road right next to a parade of lemmings passing by (we all know where they're heading!) And perhaps one lemming has stopped in front of the desk, curious... Anyhow, just an idea, taking your concepr and thinking of ways to do the same thing only differently. I'm sure you'll come up with a great way to tell the story. Good luck!
07-05-2007, 03:22 PM
Rama6ka - ha ha thanks pssssst it's a lemming lol, I was thinking it resembled a ground hog though
Mike - hello, glad you stopped to post weird that our minds are thinking alike. :wise: I was thinking along the same lines, because first I don't like to do rooms, too much perspective and nit picky stuff for my taste ha ha. If I do go with the road side idea I am going to put a hang glider sales booth there too and maybe a few of the little dudes riding the currents ... still thinking of ideas :bounce:
I love Mike's road idea! That life insurance agent would have enough clients on the road side. I can imagine lemmings staying in the queue to his desk, and from there in the queue to cross the road! And may be a speeding car far away on the road
Oh, and if that gent is actually a scavenger bird (griff - I don't know the name of it on English, the one with long naked neck)...
I don't have thread yet, but I am working on my first post. Soon!
07-05-2007, 09:17 PM
I think you mean buzzards, that is what is supposed to be circling my duck in the desert ha ha.
07-05-2007, 09:34 PM
Hehe!Yesss me like lemmings&beaver too!Kind a prefer that direction and i'm sure thata will be lots of fun realising it, with all this flurry & furry.
ME looking forward too to your next steps!Good luck!Later ;-)
07-05-2007, 09:52 PM
lol ok ok so I have to practice drawing lemmings so they don't look like beavers.
ha ha thanks OKMER I do owe credit to Sacha though for planting the lemming idea in my head.
07-06-2007, 11:28 PM
been working on trying to develop my lemming. I never realized they look like a miniature beaver/hamster combo
07-13-2007, 01:52 AM
another concept sketch , aqua cats
07-13-2007, 02:02 AM
wet kitties? ahahaha go ahead ^^
07-13-2007, 07:43 AM
Hey Linda, it was great to go through your thread. You've come up with some really nice ideas. I think my favorites are the lemmings and the cats. The idea of selling life insurance to lemmings is really funny - I dread to think what the premiums would cost
07-13-2007, 08:08 AM
cats fishing under water.strange concept .will follow ur thread.Best of luck
07-13-2007, 01:41 PM
Sacha - ahh ha ha ha ha I can't reply to that
mdavid - weee thanks for the post, maybe I will try to combine the lemmings and the cats ha ha that might be interesting
CUBISIS - Thanks for the post and the nice luck wishes :)
07-13-2007, 02:29 PM
AHAHHAHAAH CATS underwater ! Beautiful!!! :applause:
07-13-2007, 10:18 PM
Thank you Serena :)
07-14-2007, 05:10 PM
playing a bit more with the cat idea, mostly scribbling in some colors to see if the idea will work. Next step will be pencil cat sketches, I am going to need to work a lot on limb and body positions etc on the cats and perspective.
07-14-2007, 11:14 PM
nice, the image has grown a lot with the colors!
give a harpoon to those crazy cats, hehe :D, I like them!
07-14-2007, 11:17 PM
I say go with the lemming life insurance. It's the funniest idea and a great story behind it. I see a lot of potential with that.
I see you keep coming with new ideas :). Cats are not bad, but I still like the insurance idea better...
But you re the boss, and for you to decide :scream:
07-15-2007, 11:24 AM
elmasfeo - ha ha thanks, I might do that :)
paperclip and musi - I am still exploring ideas and still playing with the lemming idea too. I will make a decision sometime soon I hope :)
07-15-2007, 12:53 PM
Still exploring and decided to do a little Lester sketch, see how I feel about him.
07-15-2007, 01:08 PM
the lemming looks realy stressed, as one thinks and agent in such a firm woould be :D. maybe you should give them little ties or white shirts.
i realy like the cats though :D if you realy change them into these ultra fluffy ones you showed :)
anyway have fun exploring and i should do myy sketches too....
07-15-2007, 02:15 PM
Hi Linda! Just checking what you're working on. You're not doing weird fishes ? I'm so disappointed ! Actually, the cats are pretty weird fishes I guess. ;)
The lemming sketch made me laugh the most though. But I guess it's good to still explore your possibilities as long as you have ideas.
Good luck with the challenge!
07-15-2007, 04:17 PM
Llynna - ha ha yeah think I will do a poofed out cat underwater sketch today and see how I like it ..and errrrr hoping nobody noticed I spelled casualty wrong *hides
RicoD - Thanks for stopping by and for the feedback :) lol no weird fishies for this one, I am in a furry mood lately I think.
07-16-2007, 07:16 AM
Wow! Cool updates  I love the color work. With the cats, the flipper on the foot of the foreground cat is not all that easy to make out, but that's a very trivial crit because I know this is so early in the piece. The lemming pic really grabbed my attention - especially those mournful eyes (which are quite hypnotic!). I love his little suitcase too - a wonderful old-world addition to the scene. Excellent stuff!
07-16-2007, 11:57 AM
awwwwwww cuteness ^^ such great work on his fur, and such a cute thing he is ^^
07-16-2007, 01:02 PM
Very nifty update! And I think I agree with Lynna. It would be awesome if you could throw him a tie or maybe some thin rimmed glasses (maybe falling off of his face).
I love it so far, I've still got my eye out on this thread.
07-16-2007, 03:14 PM
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :p :bounce: soo very cute! love the fur and leather effect very much! even the cats sport some really cool colours! i like the way u mix them all
way to go dear! me waiting to c more from u! :bounce:
good luck as always!
07-16-2007, 05:13 PM
mdavid - Thanks bunches for the nice comments :) I had a bit of fun with Lester and have had some more ideas floating around that I will sketch out soon, I hope anyway
Sacha - awwwwww you always say such nice things , thank you :D
Coyox - ha ha , I am thinking maybe a gold earring and a gold tooth . Thanks for the visit and the compliments :)
nwiz - ahhh ha ha ha you are always so fun and bouncy and full of nice things to say. I havent' made up my mind yet which concept I am going to go with, still working on a cat sketch... or attempting to if it doesn't flow well I will more than likely go with lemmings. :bounce:
07-17-2007, 12:56 AM
Oh no! Why he doesnt stop looking at me!
Cool work on the fur and leather Linda but nothing new to hear for you, color and expression is nice but just a litle sugestion, add more glossynes to his eyes to make it most expressive.
Congratulations Linda, you are improving very much, keep it up.
PS: Im not supose to say this in public but... is really cute
07-17-2007, 04:55 AM
Loved the idea of marine cats, soooo cute! IŽll wait for ups!!!
07-17-2007, 05:03 AM
Lester's looking nice, Linda. I agree with Reinaldo, though: His eyes could be a bit more expressive. They're working better in your three mini-sketches because the hilights are sharper there. You might try exploring darker eyes with sharper specular hilights on them. The rest, though, especially the fur, is looking great!
07-17-2007, 09:30 AM
Rei - I made him just to stare at you mua ha ha ha. Thank you for the suggestion on the eyes and I wont' tell anyone you said "cute" in public :D
Jujuba - Thank you , still working on a more detailed cat sketch too ( I was lazy yesterday )
Mike - You always make awesome suggestions :) Thank you for those and the compliments.
07-17-2007, 02:53 PM
Well, ReinaldoRomero (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=211140) deserves the credit - he's the one who pointed it out first. I just reiterated and reworded. But glad it was helpful no matter who said it! :)
07-17-2007, 05:52 PM
Mike - I guess I meant that as a general statement. I go through a lot of threads and read the comments and you never fail to have excellent crits and suggestions. You are one of those that is generous with their time and in helping others. :) bleh enough nicey nice stuff from me ha ha or you might end up with a fresh batch of screaming teenage gurly fans.
hey lynda, this thing you uploaded last is adorable! but i have to point the fact that there are some anatomical issues with it. so that might be something you might want to address later in the piece.
ill keep an out for your thread. best of luck.
07-18-2007, 10:44 AM
Thanks Slav , errrr ha ha ha like his head is so big he might roll like a ball instead of walk and his arm is growing out of the side of his head and I don't want to talk about his ears..... yeah weeee just to name a few . Maybe when I develop him further I will give him a big belly to match his oversized head, not sure yet where he will go as I work on him more. I just hope he doesn't mutate too much on me
07-27-2007, 02:03 AM
I really think you should give that insurance guy some extra attention because I know it could be a real killer.
07-27-2007, 07:39 AM
i really like this idea of the lemmings.. please stick with that. as walrus sugessted having a parade of lemmings walk by and one take an interest would make for a stunning painting...
easily one of the best ideas on here. jealous.
your chracter is nice at the mo... are you using references? If so i would do a few life drawings of lemmings and then go on to design a more cartoony character. Also if using reference look how the shadows and higlight fall on the lemmings fur, try not to fall into the trap of painting every strand of fur, try to create the illusion of fur rather than painting every singe straneg, and perhaps also be a bit more adventurous with brushes as it looks a bit airbrushy.
cant wait to see what you come up with. subscribed.
07-27-2007, 06:32 PM
MoKhatib - Thanks for the visit to my thread :) Lester is getting a bit lonely I have not had much time to work on him lately. Hopefully soon he will get a bit of attention.
W-I-L - Excellent suggestions and yes I am using references, I found that lemmings are kind of an odd looking critter. They look like miniature beaver hamsters combinations. The idea of doing a few life studies is great :) Thanks a bunch .
