Hi, Remko! Good to see you here again - looking forward to seeing what you come up with this time. Have fun...!

06 June 2007, 07:28 PM
Haha, ok this strnage kind a thing came up to me on my way home....:well, in fact 2 things...

1: The world has been taken over by the media...
Nobody don't know anymore what's life is about without a TV or internet, mobile phones...."TV people"they are called
Strange kind a creatures, looking like televisions with arms and legs...
W'ere straight in the middle of a ceremonie a bit like in a sect.
All these living TV(older ones, new ones, etc) kneeling down in front of their chief, the ultumate leader >>>Mr.Remote controle....A huge half flesh/half remote control creature standing in the middle of a huge hall on a podium...
There are spectators also....
Wooden toys as we don't make them anymore...Toys from way back, when TV was just a concept and families still played games together at night,A time when families passed their time telling stories in fornt of the candelight....
they are looking, hidden behind some rock's at this ceremonie with tears in their eyes.
They know their time has come...

2. The sect of the tire-deflaters:
A new sect is born..."The tire deflators"!!!
A crossroad seen from above in the middle of N.Y...Several creatures/humans dressed in somekind a sect like clothes running around between the highly concentradted downtown traffic.
They got tires around their neck and 2 knifes in their hands.
They are convinced that the air belongs to god and that we cant lock it up in our tires(car tires orcourse)...
So they free it !!!They give the air back to god...They free it by planting their knifes in all the tires they meet on their way!
Yellow cabs, with their drivers being totally surprised by all these strange dressed guys with tires around their neck planting their knifes in their tires.
One Tire deflator is knneled down jus behind a car, praying the sky while the air is blowing out of the tires!...
Sorry for my english...Hope some speed's will explain this better in the next day's...haha

3.Chicken kamikazes blowing up a farm...(still gotta work this out...)

06 June 2007, 08:16 PM
Hey Remko, looking forward on what you will do this time hehe, good luck mate, may the beer be with you

Yep, well again can't get this contest outta my head and my brain is heating.huhu.

So did this speed this afternoon while my break.
Has got nothing to do with the final image i'll work out and the pic is quit classical, but hey it was so fun to do!!!
Love these kind a meetings between 2 totally different creatures.especialy when the little one meets the big one, haha)
Title: do you wanna play?.
+/- 40min in photoshop.
Later friends!

06 June 2007, 05:28 PM
Hoho very creepy uh... I like the idea, you were fast for your first wants to see more:)

06 June 2007, 05:38 PM
Very good composition and mood Okmer. Love the red eyes on the giant and the conection between the two creatures. Play around with some of the poses for the little girl, she's so little and yet such an important part of the image. It would be funny if she had one of her arms on a huge ball, since the giant has a ball of her size. Just some ideas, lol. I say em as they come to me.

But all jokes aside, theres a lot of energy in this early painting. Brilliant work.

06 June 2007, 06:08 PM
Amazing lighting ! congratulations !

06 June 2007, 06:16 PM
Very cool, looking forward to seeing how it turns out, and Keep it odd!

06 June 2007, 09:25 PM
nice work man. good luck and all,

06 June 2007, 09:58 PM
nice start... I like the colors and the light mood you already transfer in this concept sketch...

06 June 2007, 11:58 PM (

Yap after some work and bringing the kids into bed, couldn't get no sleep and so did this sketch.

THis could be one of the characters taking part in a intergalactical horsejockey run..huhu..

Still got this sect of the "Air liberators" who give the air back to god by sticking their big knifes in all the car-tires they meet on their way in my backmind...

And the other hand, I'm also really hesitating to do a more realistic, dramatic pic, just like the first one,as I have a lot of fun doing this...whatta ya think?
Anyway, the horse jockey:

06 June 2007, 12:05 AM
What a great start! I thought the first image was powerful and thoughtful (and a bit spooky). The second one was funny. Both look superb. I don't know which one I like most - maybe the first one

06 June 2007, 08:20 AM
hehehe, like it :D

06 June 2007, 08:44 AM
Hilarious face, the jockey´s! Looks really cool, keep it up:thumbsup:

06 June 2007, 01:50 PM
Very funny !!! congratulations .

06 June 2007, 02:40 PM
Hey thx guys!I would like(if I continue with this concept)make a big run with for about 10 jockey's in the run.
On the other hand like I said, I also, even if it's a more classical scene, would like to work out the first one more. With waterfalls, birds flying around, the forest, etc,etc...
How do you feel about this?

There are the "Airliberators also:A sect that give the air back to god by making holes in the car tires...Which you prefer?Thx!!!MAde ze forzzz be wizzz you!!

06 June 2007, 02:44 PM
hey there fellow belgian :)

06 June 2007, 02:46 PM
Great concepts man! For your art style I would go with the "grand" idea you had, big scene with waterfalls and the such. I think you could pull that off nicely!

Good luck bro, will be watching :)

06 June 2007, 03:22 PM
The second sketch is really great. Definitely strange behavior.

Good luck with the challenge.

06 June 2007, 07:22 PM
Hello OKMER.
I really like your jockey concept, it's what it is; funny and very bold. But, if you think well, the monster can be more subtle and perhaps more interesting. I wish you could give us more of the monster and the little girl.

06 June 2007, 08:05 PM
lol what a fun thread already!
Great ideas Okmer... wanted to wish you loads of fun but I see I don't need to :D

07 July 2007, 01:39 AM (

Yap,haha..Sure me missing you guys too man!

I'm Actually dealing with some nasty deadlines,(as proberly a lot of you)...(nothing changed he,hee) all by being a active husband and daddy at a time(well,I'm trying), :-).

Did some drop by's lately and oooh man, totaly mad pictures popping up from all over the place!
I'll be more confortable later on to really take some time to read, comment and so.

Anyway, did some concept sketch about a idea I had since a while:

The carrot hunters!:

Well even if proberly it's far beyond's everys imagination and you even won't believe me.

YES, they do!..Carrot's came to earth far far before the time the first humans appeared on earth.
"Wort-teellg"is called the planet where they come from.
Directed by 7 feet high black carrot's,"the blagghottes".
CArrot's came to earth to observe human's behavior and to witness their evolution.

There's only one thing:...

If a human approaches in one yard from the Carrot's, they immediately change into "carrghary"(some sort of stone that only appears on their planet).
In some kind a why they sacrifi themselves to keep the secret, hold eversince millions of years.

But all the other living creatures on earth can see them, the way they're truelly are!.So...

So do rabbit's..

And so this picture tells you actually how hard it really is for rabbit's to catch carrot's!!!A real war!

This is the story of "Rudolf the RAbbit"
A rabbit escaped long ago from a laboratory and then went back to the country to find peace.
That didn't last very long as Rudolf discouvered the secret of the "carrot's"..

From then on the battle to survive and eat started for Rudolf.THe hunt had started...

Fortunately Rudolf gained a huge IQ from all the test's he had sudden in the laboratorys.
So he builded a robot called "Grongk" out of all kind of tractor-parts and other stuff he founded on the country.

Grongk is proberly the greatest carrot hunter ever seen in where Rudolf lives.
Rudolf command's him with his controller, but Grongk do not always listen that well...

07 July 2007, 03:01 AM
I wish i could paint like that

07 July 2007, 06:18 AM
You have a really dynamic pic here, and the moon will look so sweet!!

My compliments, oh yes!:buttrock:

07 July 2007, 11:45 AM
woweeeeeeeeeee! u rock bro! :buttrock: kickass moonlight man! love ur take on this one! yup yup ... this is it ... this is what i wanted to say :D cheers bro!

07 July 2007, 06:17 PM
Wow, that last sketch is simply amazing. Go for it! :bounce:

07 July 2007, 09:28 AM
I really love the last concept (especially after reading the background story).... Its really entertaining and well thought out... BUT the thing is that i cant get the troll out of my head... its trully one of the best concept sketches so far... i chuckle every time i look at it...

Anyway, i think both can make trully great works, so pick one and keep at it... And we want more updates:scream: (just kidding... we all understand tight deadlines and of course family has to come first)...

07 July 2007, 02:02 PM
Hey, Remko that its a great sketch, I like a lot your idea and conception !! and the composition is great! (and the carrot hiding is a fantastic detail) Good Luck man !! :)

07 July 2007, 12:46 AM
Wicked sketch remko, i love it but i found de diferences between one carrot and the other to big, the top of one is bigger than the other, i know it is a sketch but if you take it forward watch out with carrots perspective. Nice atmosphere...this is the one i like it the most from your sketches (with the exception thereare no rubber duckies around) :P

07 July 2007, 07:21 AM
Beautiful sketch. I'm like the others in loving that moonlight. And Rudolph the bunny sitting up there looks brilliant.

07 July 2007, 07:28 AM
Mais ou s'arretera-t-il ? :scream:
another crazy concept friend.
The last is very interesting on the livewire of the scene, and the comic side.

07 July 2007, 10:16 AM
haha excellent idea :)

07 July 2007, 03:57 PM
Nice image - it really made me smile. Those carrots are too funny - lots of emotion trying to get away, and such a dynamic pose for the bot...

07 July 2007, 01:11 AM
HAhaha ! the rabbit looks really cool man, nice concept !

Have a great challenge !

07 July 2007, 06:42 AM

Haha! This is fun  I love the running carrots :bounce:

Keep it up this will be a great image with lots of humor :scream:

08 August 2007, 01:01 AM (

Some sketches I did like that as these "carrot's rules the world" thing with the rabbit that builded a robot just after his own image(just like we do)to catch and chase them, keeps staying in my backmind,huhu...
Nothing to do with the final pic but it was fun.

Thinking of loads of things as I really need the pic to tell a story to have fun illustrating it.

On the other hand,in some kind a way I'm a bit afraid that the more you explain the background story, the less things get strange..Am I wrong, whatta you think about that?
Later amigos, cheers!

my bro is back! and man with another crazy crazy concept!! woooooooohoooooooooo!! u rock bro! u rock!:buttrock: i simply love the outdoor treatment and all the funny characters! :applause:
hope you choose this one among the others..( tho its a tough choice to make  )

good lord!! i wholeheartedly agree with u bro! to be very honest .. i was scared to let it out .. but now that you broke the ice ( thank god for that!), i too felt the same way as well .. i was scared my illustration was telling a story too ... i couldn't make something just out of the blues, it has to mean something .. just as you wanted your work to mean something as well .. fill with emotion and yet make it strange too .. ( cool combination i say! ).. bro.. you're not wrong at all .. no no .. its just that, isn't it strange.. that a crazy illustration can tell a story?? it's so freakin ironic!!

but you know .. i think that's exactly what it needs.. a story .. in order to retrace my steps .. i went back to the challenge page and saw this :

> Entrants are required to bring to life Strange Behaviors in the most entertaining, humorous and emotive way. <

let's keep our fingers crossed bro ... win, lose, or draw .. i'm doin what i feel emotional about .. it's better to be filled with something rather than be devoid of it :(

god bless you Remko!!
good luck as always! :thumbsup::beer:

08 August 2007, 06:06 AM
Looking great, Remko! I love the robot design. I've always wanted to do a painting of a robot designed by a different race otehr than humans, and showing how it would look like that race and not what we come to expect from robots. But good to see someone got there. Great robot design - I love it so much more than the first one. Very cool!

On the other hand,in some kind a way I'm a bit afraid that the more you explain the background story, the less things get strange...

In writing, they say you should do a ton of work coming up with a backstory for all of your characters. You never share all of that with the reader, but it informs all of the character's actions that you do see. In the case of making a single painting, go ahead, feel free to talk about it all you want: in the end, your finished piece won't have all that information on the surface, but it will be informing every part of your painting in the same way. The only caveat is, don't make it so that someone had to read your entire thread and story to get your painting: it has to stand on its own. (I was just looking at someone else's thread where nobody got what the Strange Behaviour was - the artist had to explain it to everyone because it wasn't clear from looking at the art. But I'm not sure that's very successful: the judges doubtless will have no idea what the strange behavior is either!)

But I digress... Anyhow, looking great!

08 August 2007, 06:25 AM
yup yup Mike's right!

n more ways than one ... ' a picture speaks a thousand words ' :)

full speed ahead buddy! let your heart race!:applause:

Waiting for the next upload !
Que la force soit avec toi,

08 August 2007, 11:06 AM
If I was a rabbit I'd want a rorabbit/rabbot just like that one. Then again, I think I'd want one even if I wasn't a rabbit. Because it's really cool.

I reckon your idea will fit the 'strange behavior' theme really well. Because you've taken the age-old conflict between carrots and rabbits to highly-original new levels then it surely must fit the theme beautifully.

I guess your illustration will make it clear that the rabbit was hunting those carrots, perhaps a few carrots hiding and some fleeing and rorabbit in hot pursuit - it sounds fantastic.

By the way, that carrot with the skeleton is fantastic.

08 August 2007, 03:00 PM
that's kickass man !! just go for it :)

08 August 2007, 08:53 AM
 Great sketches Remko and sorry I haven't dropped by quicker to look at your work!

Great concept - totally crazy and totally original - fantastic

I really like the characters, especially the carrot character

Looking forward to seeing how this develops :applause:

Mr Freeman

08 August 2007, 11:38 AM
Very very nice sketches ! I love the carrott especially... (the skeleton, what an idea !!)

By the way -and there is nothing to do with the contest, I'm sorry about it- I saw that you were in Mons, Belgium ? I was there for the Troll et Legendes Festival in Mons -last edition... We might have met without knowing it ? ...

So good luck to you too !

08 August 2007, 01:16 PM
I see u r doing great! As walrus said, these sketches and designs beside the final piece wont ruin anything, so please, keep posting them coz they r so funny :) At the end only the final image will matter and if judges would be able to read the whole story and behavior out of it.
And I must say that I love designs u put down, they are very well presented and with much humour. Keep posting!

08 August 2007, 07:51 AM
Your idea has a good background story.

Interesting... and a bit disturbing =/

The mood you set in the previous sketch works well.

Looking forward to see your progress.

Keep it up =)

08 August 2007, 09:32 AM
A really fun idea and the carrot skeleton is wonderful. And I love the story - everything is still plenty strange.

But look, someone knows the secret of the carrots. (

08 August 2007, 06:54 AM
Sweet designs Remko! It's time for an update.:D

08 August 2007, 11:32 PM
Each sketch is better than the last! I can just see the rabbit-mecha running to chatch fleeing carrots, LOL (or maybe it's the opposite? 'The day of the walking carrots'? ).

The vertebrate carrot is priceless, I'll never eat one in the same spirit again ;) can't wait to see your next update.

08 August 2007, 08:41 AM
very funy. good luck

08 August 2007, 06:56 PM
I love your character designs... i really believe that you have two options: to either explain the story so that people can comprehend the image or manage to convey your message without a word... depends on how far back you want to show the story... keep us posted

08 August 2007, 12:58 AM
Very nice characters. The rabbit-robot is just priceless.

08 August 2007, 01:04 AM

08 August 2007, 12:19 PM
i would suggest turning the torso a bit sideways so it can balance the motion... other than that, it looks great... keep us posted.

08 August 2007, 02:11 PM (

YAp, well kept on skething on the overall atmosphere.Like the first painting was a speed, that I did on only 1 layer, I had to paint everything out to get better control on the different parts of the pic later on.So this is just the empty background.
Just brought in Grounf to play around a bit, nothing official.
Proberly grounf will need some tuning indeed to bring the movement in more. But a lot of elements will come in later, that will react with the robots movement 2.

For the moment just trying and playing, lot of ideas running through my head.
I'm happy because we got almost 2 weeks of after Leipzig, so I'll proberly find the time to work on this some more..Yeeehhaaaa..;Let's get strange baby!Cheers & later friends!

08 August 2007, 10:49 PM
Now that is simply beautiful. I love those bands of green lights around Grounf's head too. Great to see your updates coming back in Remko

08 August 2007, 05:31 AM
Hey Remko, I see you wakeup ! hahahah... :D Great work !! I love Grounf, really nice painting and lighting test mate!! ( and if that is only "playing a bit" ... I have fear to see what is seriously and "official"..:D ) Nice mate!!

08 August 2007, 12:21 PM
Thank you so much for your kind words guys & galls!Really motivating!

Walrus,Neville,Blaz,: thank you so much guys for taking your time for considering what i wanted to say, you're totaly right, you've reassured me,thx again for that, may ze forzz be wizz you!

Ferx:Thx my friend for your kind words. What i wanted to say with "some sketches & playing around a bit" isn't that it's easy for me, because it ain't.In fact, since not so long ago, i've founded out something that really, realy helped me a lot in my progress.
Two simple words in fact:.."fearless painting"..
Before, often I started to worry about details much to soon in the progress of constructing a pic.
And well lately, now I try to force myself to act as fearless as I can while painting the early beginnings of a pic.Just worrying about shapes and the way I use the space&light inside my canvas.
In this way my drawing offers me much more possibilities and way's to go till he end, which is for me much more fun.And so for me this is like playing as I'm having more fun and being more exited about having more freedom in my choices and what will pop out till the end.Thx again for your kind words and support friend!!May ze forzzz be wizz you!

ziriguidum:Thx for droppping by man!Your words are appreciated!Cheers!

killer-instinct93:yop man your words really keep me motivated.Thx for passing by and Cheers mate!

Neubius;haha, thx friend!Hope the way you'll eat carrot's never won't be the same no more, lollll!!!

Actually I'm still hesitating about the background for the hunting scene.Future town, farm, ancient carrot civilasation...Don't know.Anyway tx a lot for popping by buddy!

RenaudGaland: hey friend!!!How are you doing fine REnault?NIce to see you around. How's your monkey warrior doing?See you monday buddy! In the meanwhile profite and drink haha!

MrFreeman:Hey man!Tx for ya nice words & dropping in.I'm glad you like it!You rock!

Chrysale:HI Chrysale!!!Tx mate!ha,ha ..No haven't been to the troll&legends festival this year, but I will do next year!!!We'll have a nice Trollbeer together mate!Cheers!

NinjaA55N:Just like I said in the beginning of my reply here!!!Tx mate for your support.Means a lot to me!Love your pic too!I'll try to maybe put some more feedback on the carrot civilasation,as a lot of ideas came up to me eversince...CArrot's rule the world!!haha..LAter friend!

Sovica:Quote:"Your idea has a good background story.Interesting... and a bit disturbing =/"
YEp you're right mate and this is how I felt about it too in the beginning, but then again, I thought to myself..."hey, come on man, CArrot's don't run all over the place usually, RAbbit's don't build robot's and most of the robot's don't hunt carrot's..that do is strange behavior.huhu
And when I do a illustration for my own, i like it to really get into the story and the feel them better as I draw them.Later buddy, cheers!

Ordibble P. Lop:Haha thx mate! That carrot bone really rocks!!!Made me ronflll

beelow:hi buddy!Tx for droppping by, love your work!Updates will be coming more often now I hope,as the last run to leipzig Game Convention is over..,yearrrr.They gave us 2 weeks off after and that felt so good.So now try to work some more on this.

Thaldir:HEy Tiziano friend!Tx you very much for your kind words, really appreciate them a lot.Love your work too man!HUge!Hope that eating a carrot will never be the same to you again indeed, haha! They are lovely and can tell such funny jokes about rabbits, save the carrots!!LOLLL

saghar:Tx man, you too!

icedeyes:Hey thx buddy for your kind words!Keep me going!Love your work too.Indeed. eversince this story came up to me ,the carrot's keep haunting my brain day and night.I'll surely develop a lot more of the background story later on.Later on maybe,me and some buddies at the studio, we'll even try maybe to make a little game or mini-movie about it.hehe, fun forever!!

UldFerr:HEy, tx buddy!Your words are much appreciated!

Ivy00:Hey Miss, nice to see you here and tx for popping by friend!Really appreciate your words! Now we want some updates from you too Ivy!!Lemming power!haha

OKMER:Hey buddy, tx for dropping by and showing your pics....uh...sorry..ooops..grunnnngggg..out...

Cheers CG friends!

Yap, well as I told before.Still trying out alot. And actually I'm trying different atmospheres without worrying about what the final pic will be.
What do think about this colorscheme?

Also, I'm still not sure about the scene I put Rudolph & Grounf in.
This color scheme gave me the é other ideas also: 1. Rudolp & Grounf in a scene where they discover a very ancient carrot civilisation. They pop upout of the bushes, in the middle of some weird ceremonie where carrots are trying to offer a nice lady bunny to their carrot god's.With torches and ancient carrot civilisation Ruines, ancient wallpaintings on the wall, representing the war between carrot's and rabbits eversince time...

And 2:Rudolp & Grounf running through a town somewhere in the future, hunting some cyber-carrot's, with amazed people around suprised by what's happening...
Still don't know.
What do you think...?

C&C mostly welcom!!!

Later friends!

08 August 2007, 03:56 PM
All of your concepts & sketches are so well both the ones about the carrots and the Grounf and the others. For the ones about the Grounf and the carrots you should choose the concept which will make you feel more fun while progressing, cause all the ideas are funny and superb. The dynamic look of the Grounf is so well done and the colours also. That's all from me. I'll watch the progress intrestedly! Cheers!

08 August 2007, 11:52 PM
I love your expression 'fearless painting'. That's a fine approach to art. When I was in art college one of my lecturers told me, 'If you're going to make a mistake, make sure it's a really big one - not some little mistake that no one ever notices.' Because otherwise you'll always be too afraid to take the big chances.

And I've been making huge mistakes ever since - hahah! No seriously, your approach explains a lot about the freshness and energy and magic that shines from your illustration.

As for which of your scenes you should choose, that's a difficult choice for me personally. Watching your work I feel like I'm watching a movie, and it's great fun and I never know what happens next. Both of your ideas are really strong. Oh yes and important too - the age-old conflict between rabbits and carrots has never been properly explored before and it's long overdue that someone did. We humans, we say rabbits aren't important to us, but then we place so much importance on money and what names do we give money: 'Bucks' and 'dough' (doe) - which are the male and female rabbits. What more proof do we need? Yes your work is clearly important for that reason too.

So I guess I'd be agreeing with ashiataka's advice and saying to run with whatever you thinks works well as a composition and what seems most fun to take on as some art. Because the fun will enhance the work. The secret carrot rituals being stumbled across by Grounf would certainly be a tense moment with implications that would last for generations of rabbits and carrots. I suppose I'm leaning a little towards that one for its rich potential of drama and composition. But the futuristic scene would be intriguing to see, if only to determine if rabbits and carrots have finally resolved any of their differences (I have a hunch they won't)

08 August 2007, 03:51 AM
Hey there,

Nice to see another familiar face, Funny imagery you have come up with...loving it.

08 August 2007, 05:06 AM (

Although I'll proberly get on with Rudolph&Grounk, I had this strange idea about that cuty, that came up to me tonight...
1 night in Painter&Photoshop.C&C very very welcome!

08 August 2007, 05:16 AM
Wow thats awesome work. Besides the fact I can't really tell what shes perched on (I think it just a big rock), I'm amazed you could do that in one day. I don't think I could do that in a week

08 August 2007, 05:18 AM
Hey Remko!! your latest work is amazing! as much as I like the 'Rudolph and Grounf' pic, I have to say the little bloodthirsty girl is quite impressive for a one-night work!! Boy, she's really having fun there!:)

You have me drooling for the final result of all this:thumbsup:

08 August 2007, 05:21 AM

Of every sketches that you posted up to here it is the one that I prefere, the luminosity is formidable and the position of the character is everything in movement, it is definitively my preferred

08 August 2007, 11:28 PM
The lighting in this new update is wonderful. My favourite idea is still the carrots and the rabbits, but if you went with this one I have no doubt you would produce a superb piece of illustration

08 August 2007, 12:10 PM
Thx guys!
Yes,Mark, indeed i will go on with Rudolph&Grounk(f)...
But i had this huge pulsion when I woke up with this cutie, killing barbarians in my head before yesterday night,huhu...(nice wake-up by the way, lol) and so I had to do this..huhu..

I'll just work some more on it, as I don't think it's easy to read, the way the girl is holding herself, and some more stuff, but then I'll get on with Rudolph&Grounf(k)...

I'll have to redo some sketching and research to see which way I'll be heading with them.
Later friends,cheers!

09 September 2007, 01:46 AM

hehehe... this is looking awesome!

09 September 2007, 12:05 AM
Cute but dangerous. I like the idea.

Nice art style too.

Just a thought; maybe adding a hair ribbon, may strongly supplement the idea of cuteness on the character.

Cheers to you Rem!

09 September 2007, 06:38 PM
Te atmosphere is picture is wonderful! *****stars!

For now the blood part looks like it does not belong to the scene, that is only critique...

Greetings Okmer - Captain Panda

Great work! She looks a lot like my daughter, which is part of the reason we have not given her any weapons.

A gift to you my friend!

Mary had a little blade
It’s very sharp you know
And everyone who messed with her,
Their head was sure to go

Hope you like it,

Lot of work these last few weeks and so, even if I passed by often, never really had the time to write a or draw for the contest.Loads of beautiful works popping out from all over the place!Amazing!

Well, after being tortured by my kids&wife to see Rudolph & Grounf back in here,I'll head with the carrot chasers..And finaly me too it's the one I prefer.:-)

So did some mood & light sketching to see where I'll take the final pic.
C&C very welcome!
Cheers Buddies!!!

10 October 2007, 05:17 AM (

And here is another idea that came up to me while sketching,So dropped the shapes and light down to see if it works.

This is a more "wastelands-futuristic"like a world that's been taking over by the carrot's, and human's last hope is based on Rudolph!..
Which one you prefer..?
C&C very welcom!:-)

10 October 2007, 06:01 AM
Hey Remko, incredible stuff my friend!! I love Rudolph and Grounf !! (and your fearless painting :D ) I think the first option have a more dynamic feeling on the chase of the "evil devil carrots invaders". The second one, its a bit static, more like "here is Rudolph... you can run but not hide... " :D My vote is for the first option, i really like the dynamic action on it (and the carrot trying to hide on the bushes... hahahahaha... great!! < and a carrot perhaps jumping the fence?? :D > )

Again awesome and superb work like always !! Cheers!!

10 October 2007, 07:45 AM
I like the first one the most.

Hurry up man.:scream:

10 October 2007, 08:03 AM
I like the idea of the carrot wasteland - I never did trust those carrots - although perhaps the tilted angle in the first one gives it more of an edge. The only change I'd want is to be a little bit closer to Rudolph and Grounff. It's great to see you back!

10 October 2007, 11:59 PM
I like the latest one, it has a more painterly feel and has more drama with all the carrots scattering in different directions.

10 October 2007, 01:00 AM
I favor the 2nd one mainly because of the drama, and that it has very good 'active' grounds. Foreground, middleground, and background all have things going on. There s a lot to look around in the 2nd one. The first is a bit too straight foward and let's face it... the lighting on that 2nd one is brutally magnificent.

Number 2 for me!:bounce:

10 October 2007, 04:01 AM
Hello Remko, I am glad you back to the carrots idea.
I kind like your second idea, the wastelands-futuristic like scene, as you called it. The light on it is really great and there is more depth, but at the same time, it lacks the clarity of the first one. So, maybe if you put your amazing robot closer and focused in one of the carrots the second scene can have the same “clarity” as the first one.

10 October 2007, 07:31 AM
Superb  Is the rabbit just gonna catch them or eat them?

10 October 2007, 09:33 AM
fantastic! loving 'another concept sketch' absolutely wicked, better compostition.

10 October 2007, 10:20 AM
Love it. Very cheeky. Great atmosphere in all the concept sketches and really love how you manage to capture the 'essence of carrot' on their little faces with just a couple of lines and the motion of them scurrying away!

10 October 2007, 04:51 PM
looks really cool... loev the composition on this one.. maybe the rabit should be more on the right but thats just personal preference... he seems like he is expecting someone to sneak behind him right now and pushing him over to the other side will probably eliminate this effect... good work overall

10 October 2007, 05:15 PM
I would prefer the second "carrot" one, because of the composition and framing of it.
Great concept!
Are you dropping the "Cute is mortal" concept? It has a great mood in it, and I hope to see it finished one day :)

10 October 2007, 11:25 AM
Hey Okmer I really like Fairy tales . And I'm really please to discover all these sketches and your wonderful ideas. Superbe .Félicitations

10 October 2007, 11:44 AM
oooh, I soo liked your idea with the ruthless killerfairy, but nevermind!
This one looks equally entertaining! Composition is spot on, also dig the colors!
Hope you can finish in time, good luck!

10 October 2007, 01:24 AM
Hey Remko,

Even the rabbits in my back yard are clamoring for the next update! May the carrots be with you! ;)

10 October 2007, 11:05 AM
I like the first one. I really like those terrified carrots running from the killer bunny.
Maybe make the bunny charge an energy weapon of some sort, to make it more dramatic.
"run suckers, bwhehehe!"

I also like the second one! :D
It would be great if you could make the Bunny materialize in the mids of all those carrots (Terminator style)

Hurry up man!

10 October 2007, 12:17 PM
I am dying for the update Remko!!:bounce: I hope all is well!

10 October 2007, 11:53 PM

This is the one I finaly did feel the most myself and that's what counts.
I'll give it a try and I'm not sure I'll make it, but I'm sure i'll have fun.

As this pic started as speedpainting, it was a total mess, and so cleaned it up, brought back my layers by cutting out the several elements with lasso and I'll start it up from the beginning again.Hoppa now warming up the water of my senseo and go :-)
Later friends!!!

10 October 2007, 12:32 AM

10 October 2007, 01:06 AM
Hey Remko,

You are so authentically cordial, diplomatic, and talented (almost scary). I agree with your choice for "cute kills". Hope you can capture the original image's atmosphere and lighting while meeting your standards for detail. May the pixels and layers be with you.

10 October 2007, 01:15 AM
Captain Panda strikes back !! yeaaa !!, Love to see that you are ready ... white flag, last lap!! go, go, go my friend!! the checkered flag is awiting for you!! Run fast like Jacky Ickx :buttrock:

Ahhh and now I know the secret of the "fearless painting" technique .... wine + redbull + coca with many elctroshocks.... :D

Have fun this long night Remko ! ... Cheers!! + wine + redbull + coca + elctroshocks = :arteest: +

10 October 2007, 04:49 AM (

Hi,started working out a bit more the scene.
Will work the background and scene out first so later on I can have clearer few on how the characters should react on the light, the decor,etc...All C&C very welcome!!!

10 October 2007, 05:45 AM
mm I have allways picture it as a forest, but I noticed there's no much more tha rock done just now,and the light looks like that of a grotto entrace with so little sun rays getting inside,
maybe that'd be cool with moss and thin strings of water falling from above... I don't know just supposed I'd let you know....

10 October 2007, 08:26 AM
I just KNEW you would come back and finish this. The piece deserves it. :)

10 October 2007, 08:37 AM
We last heard from you 05:49 AM...
Are you still alive man?
Too many Red Bulls and Coffee could kill you, you know :D

Anyway, we're all waiting with towels and drinks at the finish line :)

10 October 2007, 11:59 AM
Go, go, Remko! 2 days, man! Give it your all and you're done!
I mean, hey, you got an electrocuter to wake you up, ZOMG!! You MUST finish!
Reaaally glad that you got back on your deathfairy idea, I like it the most!
Thx a lot also for stopping by my entry!!

10 October 2007, 12:10 PM
Hey Remko, great that you continue! This one was my favourite, lighting will be definitely superb on this piece. Best of luck to you to finish this qualified image very soon! Cheers!

10 October 2007, 01:30 PM
:bounce:Get busy Remko!! :arteest:Happy painting!

10 October 2007, 03:36 PM (

Haha, thx you so much for your support guys, really keeps me going!!!Keep those towels ready haha.

Think I put the electrocuter too strong as I found myself sleeping on the ground just besides my desk, lol.
HAd a little nap anyway, think that's better then any redbull.

I really wanted to have your advice on this one because I'm really doubting on which issue I'll take.
A or B?
Personaly I'm a bit afraid the head on A will catch the eye a bit too much, how do you feel about it?

10 October 2007, 03:46 PM
Go Remko Go!

10 October 2007, 03:54 PM
Hello, I think that with both images the head still isnt the main focus, which is good. I feel the down lighting on the girl draws your eye to her first since she is in the iconic position of the page, then your eye scans the rest of the page to see what the scene is about. So really I think its a matter of personal preference as to A or B

10 October 2007, 04:04 PM
hey mate!
Compositionwise I'd go with B. It keeps the focus on the girl and every element in the picture is well balanced. In A the big head puts lot of weight on the right side and you realize a gap between the girl and the head but it looks still good.
But I'd go with B.

10 October 2007, 04:30 PM
Howzit my bru!

Aye, version B seems like a better choice to me as well. I love the facial expression on the flying head though! Maybe you could add those bulging eyes to the worrior on the left? ( the one she grabs by the neck ) It might add to the feel that she's really powerful :-)

all the best bru!

10 October 2007, 06:07 PM
Hey, Remko, looking good! I too prefer B - seeing the face isn't adding much but distraction, plus the head is on a tangent wioth the blood-arc, as though it were sitting on top of it. I like how in B the arc is broken up by the head.

Whichever one you choose, if you have time, you could consider extending the canvas out to the right, so that the girl rests exactly 1/3 of the way bewteen the left and right sides, which is a very strong point, compositionally. Right now her placement splits the difference between a symmetrical composition and an assymetrical one. Add or subtract from the right side, just make it clear which one you intended...
If you have time.
Which you don't, really.
Well, good luck... Go go go!

10 October 2007, 06:08 PM (

Hi, well start to detail here and there.
Don't want to much detail all over the place as I would like to keep the painterly, quit impulsif feeling in there.
Mixing traditional and texture brushes with my brush & eraser.

10 October 2007, 06:40 PM
Glad to see you're still alive and kicking, heh..

Something about her pose looks a bit strange I think.

Sorry saying it in Dutch, cos I don't have time LOL have to finish my entry :D

10 October 2007, 11:32 PM (

But still so much to do...Background, barbarians behind here, foreground, etc,etc..So now I better get on :-)
LAter friends

And hoppa, one coffee please!!!

10 October 2007, 11:43 PM
Make that 3!!!
