I'm about to place an order on newegg.com, and would like a little help. I have about $550 to spend on video card, motherboard, 512 RAM, and case.
Here's what I'm thinking:
I want this for both games and Maya/3DStudio Max, Photoshop, etc.

Many users on this forum have expressed displeasure with ATI radeon's in a variety of 3d apps. If this is a system meant primarily for work, you might want to reconsider the video card decision.
Intel is having a price cut on May 11th, as well as releasing the new i865PE chipset (which uses an 400/533/800 FSB and DC-DDR PC3200). If you can wait, it would be advised too, as the newer boards will have a much larger upgrade route then the current available boards.
With that in mind, if you can't wait, the board you've chosen is an excellent solution.

Radeon not good for 3D Apps? Wow, that's important to know.
I work in games, so I want to run Maya and 3D Studio Max, but then I want the most possible performance I can get in the games for the price.
So what would be a good alternative card for the price range?
As for the motherboard, May 11 may be a little too long a wait for me, but it depends. If things don't work out for me now money-wise, I may be forced to wait.
As for right now, there's an Abit card that is cheaper, and some have said good things. But I've also heard Abit is not that good quality. Any thoughts on that?

I'd look into either a ti 4200, Ti 4800 or Ti 4800SE Geforce4.
Either that, or you can float a bit more cash and pick up a Quadro 900XL or 980XL. (be around 450-500)
