View Full Version : Houdini6 beta and GeForce 4 Ti4200

03 March 2003, 05:59 PM
I posted this on the Houdini Forum but I also want to post this here.

-Houdini 6.0.236
-P4 2.4mhz, Windows 2000 SP2
-GeForce4 Ti 4200 128mb 40.72 driver

When I load the LightingBeta_Starter.hip file in H6 beta, parts of the objects are"clipped" off. When the cam1 is selected and you go into the Parameters Pane and select the View tab the "near" is set to 0.001. If I change it to 0.01 all the objects show up. If I dolly/zoom around and then use the "Home along the Z" button or the "Perspective View" button I get weird clipping again on the objects.
I have also tried the "softquadro4" fix and that does not seem to help.
Can anybody try loading the LightingBeta_Starter.hip file and tell me if they get the same clipping? You can download the file from
here (
It's the "support files " in the Lights and Cameras.

Thanks! :)

Can't anybody try this?

Is anybody testing/checking out Houdini 6?

I think they changed something in there OpenGL, but I don't really know unless somebody can load the LightingBeta_Starter.hip file and tell me what video card they have and if they get the same clipping error.

Try this. When you get the problem, hit 'd' the viewport. Switch to the Culling tab. Change your Near/Far clipping planes there. Re-save your hip file.

Thanks dantea! :)

That does work!

Is this a limitation of the GeForce4 Ti 4200? Do other video cards have the same problem with that scene?

I don't know really ... sounds like a combination of the geometry in that scene along with your graphics driver.
