Ok, i'm going to give this challenge a go.
I'm going to use this character:
Space Man (http://www.geocities.com/colinj_graham/staircase)
I'm just waiting to hear the dialogue track, so i can figure out what he's going to do.
I think it might involve a rocket pack or a ray gun.
Check out my home page for more animation.

my space man can come running up to the camera, clench his fist, and say 'now, now i will show you my power'
Then he'll turn, and try to fire up his rocket pack. He'll try the switch a few times, then when he gets frustrated he'll bash it about, and finally give up, starting to trudge off screen,... when the rocket pack ignites, hurtling him off into the distance.
I'm going off now to do some story boards, so stay posted.

Ok, i was off sick last week, but i dragged myself to the computer to put together some story boards.
Here it is:
Space Man Animation challenge Storyboards version 1.3 (http://www.geocities.com/colinj_graham/Storyboards1.html)
Basically i had to cut some of the acting out of my scene to get it the punchline in under 15 seconds.
I've started blocking out some of these poses, anyone care to give me some feedback on the boards though?
I'll start posting animation soon.

Hi red merkin....
I'm waiting to see your animation.... I had the same idea as you some weeks ago...
But I changed my mind about a rocket hero...so I hope to see how will be yours...

I saw your thread earlier, but i think our animations would have been very different even if they used the same gag.
I like your anim that you're doing now.
I've been a bit hesitant to do too much 3d animation because i wanted to work out all the details of the challenge on paper before i set to 3d
I'm working on the body animation at home, and i'm going to tackle the facial shapes here at work.
Stay tuned i'll post some animation soon.

i started playing with lip sync today, maybe i'll post a movie tomorrow.
04-09-2003, 04:26 PM
I've completed a little test of the lip sync;
I'm not entirely happy with the results, i don't have all the correct blend shapes i need, but i thought i'd post some work in progress, so you can see how it progresses.
I also started blocking out the body animation last night, i hope to have a first pass done by the weekend.
anyhow here's the lip sync:

I'll post more when i get more done

I've finally put another file up on the Interent.
The file can be downloaded from this page:
Animation Challenge Page (http://www.geocities.com/colinj_graham/Storyboards1.html)
Ok, this is work in Progress, I've just roughly blocked out the Keys, and i'm trying to get an overall sense of the timing.
The keys are all set linear, and there's no over lapping action yet. There is nothing about this that is even close to being final.
I am seriously worried about the deadline now, i really want to get this challenge completed, but we're really balls to the wall here at work. But then if there wasn't a dead line then there wouldn't be a challenge would there?
Any thoughts about the timing, and over all staging would be appreciated.

You might want to try having him sigh and at the end of his slump let the remote drop, so it's more like one action.
until you add more frames i'm not sure of any of the rest of timing.
04-29-2003, 12:53 PM
unfortunatly due to deadlines and E3 comming up, i will be unable to finish my challenge. I'm going to have to withdraw my entry.
I'll be back for another challenge though.
