What a cool challenge idea! Posting a quick doodle for now cuz I don't have access to a 3D program for a few more days.
Now, to find a canyon...

Took a bunch of photographs or rocks, water, landscapes and foliage on Saturday, now I'm working on making a canyon image out of them:

Methinks you should paint out this grass, else it'll all look very small;) not that is a bad idea ;) And please loose that PS bevel ;) Keep posting:wip: :thumbsup:

Worked some more on the background plate, a little on the modelling, and got rid of the cheesy bevel - good suggestion azazel!

Gotta agree with Azazel: the grass blows the sense of scale.
I have the exact opposite problem. My backplate is too FAR away, meaning everything looks HUGE on it, or gets swallowed by it.
Looking forward to seeing more!

Looks real good with the green jets ofsetting the orange-red background.
I'd like to be able to see a little more of your efforts in your built geometry, though. You may achieve a better effect with a little more light on your towers, not just dark shapes.:cool:

More modeling work, making the parts that will be animated (steam coming from the two dome buildings, rotating doohickies on each dome). If I have time, I'll also animate the ship flying by with a trail of steam + blinking lights on the towers.
Also, I will be fine tuning the lighting for the final version so more of the geometry shows up. :bounce:

I think you really should get rid of those green lights. They screw up the picture real bad. imho anyway...
