Ok so I've been contemplating doing a Star Wars Entry, and boredom got the best of me today. I would have liked to do a Jawa, but a coworker would kill me if I didn't do Boba. (This dude has Mandalorian and Boba Fett stickers on his car and everything)

This will be my first model with clothing, so after looking at other entries I saw an interesting approach to the start so I'm going to give it a try by starting from the Foot up. So far I like the approach, but let's see where it takes me.

Anyways here's my two hours of work this morning.

As the third participant to do a Boba fett entry I think you need to make some effort to stand out from the others ( copying PKT's approach isnt getting you any brownie points). Your boot looks too squarish and your lower leg looks really blobby as if a strong wind is blowing against his leg causing fabric ripples. I think you need to study reference more and take your time modelling. Serious lack of love in the execution so far in my opinion.

I am going to have a lot of folds in the jumpsuit to emphasize that it is cloth and due to the pose he will be in in the end, but yeah I might have overdone it a bit, going to wait until the jumpsuit is finished to make a final judgement on that one. My error for not describing the final pose. He's going to be midair with legs folded back (sorta skydive leg position in relation to body), with his blaster rifle aiming at about a 30 degree downward angle with Slave II just behind him. Most items are place holders so I can get the jumpsuit finished up first and then I'm going to retouch on the armor pieces. (going to redo the knee covers, the ankle cloth and probably shoes maybe not) Even though Boba's shoes are boxy, I do agree that it's a little too boxy.

Here's a bit more on the jumpsuit. Still need to go in and fix the crotch area and redirect the flow of the waist area so that I can continue going up the body. Also once I get the jumpsuit together, I'm going to go back in and recreate the folds on the right leg to make them unique in comparison to the left leg.

I had no idea starting with the feet was such a common workflow.. maybe it's just fett artists? :)

I'm just experimenting with the foot up method. So far it has worked nicely for me. Usual have alot of trouble by the time I get down to legs. Going up is feeling more natural with the poly flow. Thanks to PKT for opening my eyes to that idea.

Probably last update for the day. maybe more tomarrow depending on how tired i am after work tonight.

Playing around with leg pose. The legs of the jumpsuit almost done. Still need to rework the crotch to make it at least connect before it gets covered by the Girdle wanna be chastity belt.

I'll get my coat .....

anyway, it is a good start, but i think you'll need to do something a bit different to stand out from all the other Fett clones

Ok so I've been busy lately so I haven't even touched this until last night. Decided to go with a different approach. For a true 30th anniversary tribute I decided to toss the model in front of a 3d action figure card. Doubt I'll put in a plastic bubble, but it's going to be a movie likeness action figure. (Realistic with action figure joints) Anyways here's the background up to this point. Sleep keeps getting in the way of my modelling.

Ok Here is my model platform, I may go in and add some topology behind the Mandalorian symbol and the boba fett flat model. C&C welcome.

edit: btw this is 100% modelled out. No textures used exception of shaders and the background image (brown stuff which isn't going to be used just wanted to take away the black abyss of the unused model universe.)

I realize this may be a little late to help anyone else, but my buddy just finished the model a few days ago. here's some reference images for Boba Fett (there are way too few back and side shots on the net so hopefully this will help some.) Even though it's a Figure, it should help with a more educated guess at what boba looks like from behind. Hope it helps someone.

Here's a bit of an update. Helmet and top armor based out. Still need to clean up a few topology artifacts and round out the armor. It looks a bit flat to me still. Needed to post an update though. Enjoy.

Is it stretched out of propertion on purpose? The image didn't hold aspect ratio from the first post to the next. If your going for stylized thats cool, I didn't see any mention of that previously, but the helmet is really elongated right now.

Yeah that happened in photoshop and after an hour of messing with it, I got tired of trying and decided to just post it as is. I can't seem to remember how to fix the aspect ratio correction thing. (Probably the worst thing in photoshop, Ive yet to find where it helps.)

didn't import this into Photoshop so this is the actual aspect ratio of the model. I really need to remember how to keep it from doing that when copying and pasting in photoshop.
If anyone can help me out on how to keep images from doing the corrected aspect ratio thing I'd be extremely greatful. Anyways here's the pic.

Again the topology is a bit ugly right now, but It should get fixed while I'm in Zbrush. Going to add scratches and "bullet" craters that his armor usually depicts. C&C welcome, enjoy.

Tossed in some floor tiles to give it a realer feel and I've decided to ditch the model appearance idea. I'm thinking more like the movie "Indian in the Cupboard" except sticking in a Boba Fett figure instead of an indian or cowboy. God I wish I had that cupboard as a child.
Anyways, I'm going to ditch the origional jumpsuit I had made, and instead pretty much restarted with my usual method of Head down focusing on the primary visible areas then going to the lesser visible (undershirt or in this case jumpsuit). Hopefully I'll have time to work on it this coming week as I'm training for a new position at work (probably going to be 3 hour a day shifts so I may have more time.) If so hopefully it will be a week of large updates instead of these small 1-2 hour work updates.

Aiming to finish the Girdle, put more definition in the knee plates, detail the belt (it's just a smooth ring right now), Create a rope look to the red ropes (unsure what they are exactly), and then start on the wrist guards (bracers if you will). I'm curious for some outside opinions here. Anyone else feel he's too large or too small? I'm not sure which yet, but his size doesn't exactly tickle my funny areas.

Hmm in Photoshop? I've never had it do that on its own. But typically if you right-click an image in PS you can get to the image-size tool. To correct or maintain aspect ratio/propertions just check/uncheck Constrain Proportions. Is that what you mean? If not post some more info and I'll see what I can figure out.

Thanks. that really sounds familiar to me now. Had this same problem like 6 months ago, but since then I've put it in the back of my head and trying to pull it back up wasn't workin that great lol.

Edit: oh but these last 2 images are directly out of Maya, so these are the actual preportions(sorry my spelling is a bit rusty).
