I have a creature with a long neck (in 3DS Max). Putting an IK chain on the neck does much of what I need, but it also prevents me from bending the neck sideways, or twisting it. Does anyone have some good solutions for this?
Simple answer...don't put an IK chain on the neck;) Just rotate the bones in an FK solution. Most animators would prefer that anyway. If you need IK because the head needs to lock down to things then you might want to have a look at spline IK. I don't like the built in solution but if you don't know how to build your own it might do the job for you. My DVD's have information about how to build your own.
