Hello everybody!
This is my first post ever on Cgtalk, please go easy on me.

I have to admit that I am a huge Star Wars fan, and when there's a contest, so I guess I want to be a part of it.

I want to model my all time favorite star wars character Boba Fett. Probebly standing in the back in Jabba's palace. (I remember I allways thought it was so cool when Boba nods Boushh, after the dramatic haggeling)

Looking great so far:thumbsup: I was nearly going to do Bobba Fett's nemesis IG88 but I had already done a version of him earlier in the year. That's why I opted for the AT-ST.

I made the knee-armor, took me a couple of hours. Whats annoying is that I got my model at school, so I can't put them on him, and I haven't got Vray at this computer (my laptop) so it's not a very exciting update I guess.

sweet dude. Just a quick word of advice, i think those front of the shoes should touching the ground so he doesnt look like hes hovering on his heels.

Nice Model and nice rendering! Vray or what? I wonder a little bit why most of the Fett“s are modeled from the boots. I would probably start with the Helmet. Nevermind!

PorkpieSamurai - Thanks alot. And the feet there, your absolutely right, they are a little bit too much tilted up. I will fix that next time I get to my school where my file is at.

monotoon - Thanks man, and your right, it's Vray. And the reason I started on the feet was simply because I found some nice referances of them, and I thought they looked cool xP Besides, I have tried to model his helmet before, like a year ago, it didn't look too good. So I am waiting for the best part til last.

Really nice start there, and Im loving the work on the blaster, you really seem to have captured it perfectly.

I just hope you postion BF in a a great stance.

As the others pointed out, a litte tweaking of the toes and your on your way.

Loking forward to seeing how you do the rest of his amour and helmet.

Looks good so far, I'm going to keep watching this thread. My favorite pose would either be the one on, where he is pointing his gun straight at the camera, or a more dignified/laid back pose with him standing with crossed arms, holding his gun. keep up the good work!

Very interersting way of working, I have never seen a model put together this way. But it looks great, can't wait to see you texture this guy out!! and the helmet can't wait to see it.

Thanks Lordrych, not looking forward to unwrapping and texturing this fellow :sad:, but in the end I bet it's worth it all, I have allready learned some stuff from this challenge, and it's fun!

It is definetly looking awesome, and a very interesting approach to the modelling!
Regarding the use of my IG88 model

My IG88 model isn't a full figure worse luck. it was only made to be posed for one scene so it's not rigged, has no legs, only partial arms and the barrel of the blaster is the only part I made. back then I only had 512 MB ram so had to limit the details a bit. Also used quickdirt to texture him as well. If you want to work on him let me know. But i don't think you'd be allowed to use it in this competition.

Np octopus7, I was thinking just as an individual scene, just for fun. Not for this challenge, but if it's made in a special pose for a special scene, it's no worries.

Jedi-Juice - yeah, I think I will take atleast the helmet and all the armor peices into mudbox, and make all the scratches and stuff. But I might also do it to his clothes. I am not sure yet. And thanks for the comment :)

shahabp - Thank you, I have started on it, but itęs the hardest part so far IMO, since I am going for the pose where he is just standing with his arms crossed over his rifle.

shahabp and Airflow - haha, thanks, I take that as a compliment :P I will upload a new picture of him on monday or something, I don't have the files with me in the weekends.

Coming along very nicely. I really wanted to do Boba Fett, but since I came in a little late, seemed like their were quite a few. This is the nicest I've seen. Keep it up!

One of the joys of modeling. Always keep the uv layout (especially if unwrapping) in mind with edge flow and all that noise.

aaah, finally some updates! looking really good as allways, alltho perhaps the torso is a tad long compared to the legs? might just be the camera angle? Keep it up!

That's looking great. I can sympathise with your fear of UV unwrapping, it gives me a headache and nightmares too:D well it is a modelling comp so I don't think textures are that important for the final product. besides clay renders of high detail models look awesome!

Just use Z-brush to texture your model. Instant UV layout with minimum hassle. Paint on your model in real time and appreciate the simplicity of working in Z-brush, by laughing at your screen and being quite happy :)

yeah Yav, I should use Z-brush, but I only tried it like once or twice, and I find the interface soo hard to understand. If I'm going to become good with the program, I am not sure if this Hardcore challenge is enough time. I didn't really know that you could paint on the model with textures anyway :P I thought it was mostly just a sculpting program, not a texturing program aswell.

But as octopus7 sais, this is not a texturing contest, I could allways just learn Z-brush after the contest and texture him done and take my time afterwords.
This is not an easy disition.

I will probebly try to make a little more on the upperbody today, and fix the propotion problems.

Hey looking pretty good PKT. Really nice amount tof detail so far. Nice lighting so far. The only crit I would say is that his torso seems a little long to me, but that could also be the lack of a helmet that is making it look long too.

This looks good so far PKT. Your modeling skills have come a long way and you always have great attention to detail. I will try to keep up to date with this as you continue to work on it. Hopefully I will have some better feedback next time.

As for ZBrush, if you haven't used 3.0 yet, it has changed a good bit from the previous versions. It is a little bit easier to get the hang of and the texturing as improved tremendously. So yes, you could use it for your texturing though it might require some extra time to learn how the program works.

Thouse are some really nice words Yngram, it means alot to me man. I have to reconsider Zbrush then. But as you say, it will probebly take me alot of time to figure it out, so I don't think I will use any zbrush on this model within the challenge deadline.

Good job with the helmet! But I'm sorry to say that you need some work on the proportions and overall shape of it. Hard to say like this but I think that it might be too high. Just try comparing it to some pictures or scrn shots and you'll see what I mean!

Pesonaly i think that this is thmodel yet but i have to agree with this guy. I think the cheeks are sligtly too high apart from that keep up the good work :)

The eRK and TheMansfield - Thanks for the crits guys, you might be right. But I think it looks wrong mostly because of the angle it's in atm, and with the bad texture and lighting. I have used the blueprints on it, so the propotions should not be wrong, might be some wrong blueprints though...
I will soon post an update, I finnished off the more organized torso cloth part today, the old one was a superhigh poly mudboxed verson. Keep up and feel free to give me more crits and comments.

:sad: Damn.. because of my summerjob, I didn't have the time to finnish the arms and jetpack.

I will still finnish it, with some zbrush or mudbox detailing in the end. This was seriously annoying x_x
But guys, I really have to say, all thouse entrys was badass.
