Hey all well its time to make a fool of myself and enter my first ever animation challenge fun! I have a slight idea in the back of my head what i want to do and it has to do with a fat man trying to fly.. with a catch :) anyways off to do some thinking....

I will be using Wings3d for the modeling and Lightwave for the animation!

Good luck to everyone!:bounce:

and the wireframe shot....

03 March 2003, 01:36 AM
hey great to see you giving it your all
the form and volume seam to be coming along nicely
tho I do feel your edgeloops could use some work

try and follow the bone muscle shapes then move on to fat and character details

best of luck to you

03 March 2003, 05:24 AM
the hands are disproportionate. The hands also have greater detail than the body. Try to build in the topography of the muscular system, details of the feet. I know your gonna say the guy is supposed to be fat, yet obese persons have a muscular system as well.

For some reason I see this character with bare feet.
What kind of clothes is the guy going to wear? (besides the cape)
Or is he going to be naked?

Oh yeah, I think the belly can be bigger.

Good luck.

That is one heck of a plumber's butt you have going there. ;)
The model is clean. Really stylized, very funnt. Hehhe. The face might need some work, but I like the overall style going here.

theres a strange space inbetween his thighs that you don't see in fat people.
...super-models, but not fat guys

other than that its good...

Mangled Poly
03 March 2003, 09:09 AM
yeah i put a gap there so it would animate just a little nicer when hes running and the esh doesnt cross eachother if that makes sence.....

LOL i think there talking out of there ass again :(

NS15 is currently down due to drive failure. The server that you are on the primary drive which was only being used to boot and mount the file system from the secondary disk. Our staff are replacing it and will then have the system accessible again.
We will perform a backup of all sites on the secondary drive and restore it to the primary drive to avoid using 2 disk to run the server. When we are restoring onto the new primary drive, there will be a short period where sites are not accessible, but we will plan on doing this around Midnight CST.
This will occur tomorrow or Wednesday Night.

On NS15 people have heard this quite often lately, we are quite sorry for the problems you have endured and are trying to resolve all issues.
We are extremely grateful for everyones patience during these incidents.

Please dont hesitate to contact me with any further questions you may have.

03 March 2003, 12:13 AM
I think you should make him a lot fatter :D

Just a comment on the pose - hi hand showed be palm-outwards - that current position would be rather uncomfortable ;)

Mangled Poly
03 March 2003, 12:20 AM

i think fat people get a bad rap for the most part...i mean if skinny people can fly so can fat people. I can do anything you can do better!!!

Models looking good. Definately make him fatter. Flaunt his fattness. I like the binding...Any softbody fattness goin to be jigglin around? keep up the good work

Can't wait for a test animation...

Mangled Poly
03 March 2003, 12:53 AM
Ok a time has come i have my WALK TEST.... now my first test i had the belly/boobs jiggle just a little but some one said i should way over exahterate it.... so tell me what you think...

Walktest01 (

You need the soerence 3 codec (new from quiktime)

Also this is a low AA test render...

03 March 2003, 01:06 AM
looking good, few creases yah need to add edgeloops in the areas aroudn the thigh and under the armpits and that will fix your animation issues, as well as allowing yah to get rid of the crease around your armpit and allow yah to make them thighs thick

03 March 2003, 03:02 AM
Haha, that's comical :) Great animation, little jiggle in his step. But he does walk too well for a man that big :D

03 March 2003, 05:04 AM
Hello Ryan,

I was looking at your model and here are a few things I noticed about it. First, In relation to your body your arms are too short and can be better proportioned. REmeber your arms are generally as long as you are tall. Second, I think that your hands are to short. And third, your guys butt should be flabbier and sag some more.

That is my two cents. I hope this helps.

03 March 2003, 12:46 AM
Overall pretty well done. But the one crit I can pick on you with is that the right knee locks every time he makes a step forward. But still it's a WIP,so you are close, keep at it,nice so far.

03 March 2003, 08:24 AM
:) haha, finally you put out an anim test! gr8 ... let's d/l & watch it.

What a funny, cute idea. One thing however, watch your walk cycle, if you are using Maya check your trax editor and notice the point on the graph where your walk cycle begins and where you have copied and pasted the second stride. His arms do not begin and end in the same spot, thereby causing this strange "jerk" in his arms. Match those times up better for a more smooth anim.
