hi kirt - first let me say , i like the project very much. stubled just yesterday over it. i really love it. i would like to join if its not too late.
i asked already in the other thread but this was really long. so i started modeling a cow, and like to know whether i can join the project.
i am modeling with zbrush - and it exports .dxf and .obj. would that be good for maja ? sorry i cannot check myself, since i do not have maja.
so here is a wireframe from a very wip cow:

i worked a little on the cow. mainly made her slimmer, added details to the head, and put a very wip texture on her. what do you think ?
before going on, i would really like to know, if the obj format is that what maya imports ? otherwise, i would wasting your time, what is really not what i want. please, can anybody tell me ? or try if my cow imports correctly, may be even with texture ?

Maya accepts obj files so that's not a problem. Someone will have to rig the cow for us and I'm not sure what's going to happen to the textures when we open it up in Maya. We'll have to test that.
I think the cow is showing some promise. I don't think you should have modeled the legs out like that though. The cow's legs should be in a straight line with it's shoulders. I think you were working off the perspective drawing that I made. That pose is a reaction to the spaceship flying overhead, which is why the legs are out like that.
Leg construction from top down should be fatty cone, sphere, cylindar, sphere and cube. See attached

I like the new look of the cow. It's definately improved. Two things and then I think you'll have a finished model. Scale the head down just a bit (maybe 5-10%) and drop the weight in the belly down. The front and back view shows his belly is really high on the sides which goes against the bottom heavy design of most of the characters.

ok, here is the final (?) cow. i made the head smaller and her belly lower. if you like her now, let me know where to sent the model, please. i put a new texture on her. if the uv-coordinates are readible for you, and you like the texture, you may also use it.

It looks pretty good but you could define areas on his nose and legs a bit more before we call it complete. unLevel has some space for us to upload files. Did you recieve a PM from him that had the ftp info?

ok, more definition on legs and nose. no did not get a pm- i had disabled pm so far. but enabled it now.

ok, here it is. changes are only minor, but good to see on nose. enhanced also the legs a little bit.

i just uploaded the cow, so that you can see if you like it. i put the texure into the zip. if you can read that, i can upload an uncompressed version of it.

Well, not exactly... I'm on XSI so I had to do a quick remap but that was relatively simple on this model and it looked good to me.

the cow is on the ftp server ftp.learncg.f2o.org which unlevel got for us. it is still the same mesh, since i wanted to wait for yours or kirts comments before doing any changes.
but if you want i can sent you the mesh by email, then i would need yours.

but I think the texturing of the cow's eye is a little bit unrealistic(even for comicstyle)because the black spot on the cows eye hast to be larger
