which file format does include the z channel?

theres a few of them. Right off hand IFF and RLA I know support z-depth.

rendering to e.g. targa or sgi will create separate depth files to be found in your projects/renderData folder. there's a description of all the relevant file types in the manual.

btw, if you're using afterEffects, RLA would most likely be your format of choice. it seems that AFX doesn't extract zDepth from any other format!

nearly all of them, check the 'file formats for rendered images' section in the manuals, there's a very detailed description of every single format available! :thumbsup:
