View Full Version : What happened to CGTalk?

03-15-2003, 03:27 AM
Dont get me wrong I still love the site but what happened to being able to post images on this site? I used to be able to post adequate sized images and now theres a 20k limit? Thats not big enough to post anything. How are people posting images now? Do I have to buy my own website? And wont that only get shut down after I use up my bandwith? Im a poor artist trying to get crits and dont have a job in the industry yet, well, besides my internship. I really cant afford to buy webspace. :thumbsdow Maybe Im just wrong. Can anyone give me an answer on this topic?

most people here get freewebspace to post their imgaes in, a few of us have our own paid for webspace, have a search around you should be able to get what you need no probs (i've seen free 50mb and igb transfer per month before now). just search the web.

Big D, we can't afford to host images - it's that simple. There are over 31,000 members on CGTalk and it's continuing to grow.

We originally intended for the attachments so that people can get help on the stuff that they're working on - 20k is big enough for people to put up screengrabs to explain what they're trying to achieve, etc. but if you want to post anything larger than that you'll need your own webspace. Most ISP's and schools provide basic webhosting for free.

As much as you find it disappointing, we simply can't afford to host everyone's images, and we're not a web hosting company.

Use a Yahoo-Geocities account!!

Good speed!

Only rename your images to .txt so you can post them here :buttrock:

So why do some forums (like modeling) not allow you to stick an image in you post at all? If CGtalk doesn't have to suffer from that bandwidth why not turn on images of all the forums?

I am a referral of Funender Webhosting. There is a low cost webhosting of only 100mb/$4.95/month. Please PM me for more info :)

well they disabled it in General so people couldnt spam it with things, i guess they only wanted people to show stuff in the Crit forums, so it was turned off for all new forums, and they desided later that people could cope with no image attach, so it stayed off.

IMHO anyhow.

50,000 members and going strong!

This thread is SO OLD. You've been able to host images on CGTalk for quite some time now, free too.
