View Full Version : Heavy Armored Troll

Alright I'm doing a troll for a school projet of mine. I wanna go low poly, but I didnt really set myself any specific limit (I'm just trying to remain reasonable in the poly count)

I'm pretty happy as it's the first time I get the opportunity of testing how fast I can model, and I can say I've made this this in about 9-10 hours. Think this is good or bad?

My next objective is to refine the modeling, and begin getting those armor pieces on!

I think it's well done, what sizes are your textures and how many are there?
I really have no idea about how much time it should take, I build models quickly, but draw/paint textures like a turtle...All I can say is with low-poly charecters I shoot for 1 day concepting and modeling and mapping, 1 day texturing, and one day touching up...based on 8 hr. days...but I really don't know what the standard is...
Probably didn't help much, and if you choose to reduce your poly's I'd say bring the amount down in the face because lotr trolls have that simple flat face, you may be able to burn in some features...
anyway, nice work!

p.s. you can also check the lotro website, that game has lp trolls.

Model looks good so far and thats a nice standard to aim for, looking forward to seeing some more updates on this guy!!

here's an update. I added armor pieces and fixed a few details. Still gonna add armor on the arms like the reference I believe.

alright big update! here's the result fully textured with normals, diffuse and spec map (1024x1024)

I did the normals in photoshop.

the wrinkles around the neck are good. some of the chest muscles (pecs) are a bit too harshly chizzled out, I would smooth that out some more.
Looking forward to seeing the armor on him.
