Et voila !

04 April 2007, 11:41 PM
Damn. That looks bloody cool ;)

Nice concept and cinematic direction, However this would be really nice if you could take the paint work to a photorealistic level.

Keep at it :)

It could be very nice if some of u can share some site where they have free royalty photos. I personnaly use for the moment...

Thx LeoNeet for the support

Everlite i hope i'll be able to bring this to a photorealistic level too  I'll have to find some roots and creepers photos. I'm still not sure about the propotion of the final picture, i think i'll go for a 16/9 format. Is it 720*366 too small for a final pict ?

I'll probably go for a camera move for this one, that could be a nice exercice, i have my first class about camera projection tomorrow. I'll give u some new concept soon and the clean step 2 also...

Gnight ZZZZzzzzzz!!!

Thanks for the advice with my cahllenge, yours is looking good. I like the idea and the crashed plane. The only point I can see is how does the waterfall get up there? Not that it matters really, sorry.

04 April 2007, 03:05 PM
Matty for the waterfall that a good point, i tryed to put something like a mountain near or something like that, i'll try to put this more evident.

Thx for the comment really constructive :)

Regarding images i personally use ( though not free i'm afraid. I know a lot of people who tend to use google images (set to high res) both amatuers and professionals alike. Though of course this is technically copyright theft.

Awesome concept!!

I use as well. Thats where I get most if not all my photos. Most are high res and royalty free :D

Keep it up!

04 April 2007, 06:01 PM
nice concept, the first one I see using a mood and dramatic lighting, I would consider to do a 16:9 crop , we're doing here a matte painitng ot just an ilustration, matte painitng are always used on films, so try to attach to that aspect

04 April 2007, 10:59 PM
Yep i'll go for the crop 16/9, i wasn't sure if i can do that. I thought that i had to kept the original proportion + 50% on the left.

I'll post another concept soon

Thx for the comment, jamesvfx, i'll try to push that mood further. I'll supress the plane cause if not, i'll have to break the building more then that, cause plane crash cause lot of damage.

04 April 2007, 05:31 AM
lot of time past on this one hope u like it, Here another concept. I hope i'll be able to push further for the final image. I prefer the mood in the first one and i'll try to stay in this kind of light, but this one was fun...

04 April 2007, 07:14 AM
Hm. The first mood was better! This sky is too red!

I use too:D

But i found another site which search in 4 or 5 database (include

04 April 2007, 01:26 PM
Yeh i agree, the first one was much better, i found it instantly drew interest, just needed cleaning up and little extra work. The recent concept feels like two seperate images side by side, the left is out of scale with the right and the perspective is completely different. Also when creating a red sky try and find and actually photo reference to use, just applying a colour filter over a day shot never gives a convincing effect.

Hope that helped and wasn't too harsh :) Personally i really hope you pick up the first concept again; don't change it so much just add to. The main problem on the first one was the green vines, they need to be more photo realistic by either creating CG vines or finding stock photos and using the mesh warp tool to distort them slightly.

- Dave

04 April 2007, 04:31 AM
Yup, me too, I liked the lighting/mood of the first one.
On the second idea the perspective of the outdoors is a bit off. I think the wide angle lenz used in the original is quite hard to match.

04 April 2007, 04:46 AM
well as I said before the first one is my favorite from your sketches, the second one has 2 major problems, the pérspective and composition, it looks like the image is split in two totally different matte paintings each side has stron focal nodes ( the pathway and the stairs) I suggest if you keep the second that you try to break the architecture more to the left, keeping the building as your main focal node and most important element in the whole image

06 June 2007, 05:59 AM
Sorry for that long break, but i have a lot of work aat school. I'm in a team project and can't let this project for too long.

But i found some time to continu with my clean plate and try to do some thing interesting. Keep in sight that it's my first try to mattepainting so i need constructive critics.

I'll try to do a camera move and i hope that i'll not be the only one

Good night

06 June 2007, 09:12 PM
Forgot to post my step 2 sorry. I keep going with the step 3, still lot of work to do.

06 June 2007, 09:34 PM
your matte is really contrasty.
i like the demolution going on.

06 June 2007, 09:38 AM
I really like the statues you added to the stairs. Nice image. can't wait to see the cam projection.

06 June 2007, 05:55 PM
Thx for your comment, i hope i'll be able to complete a camera move, I have some difficulty with the angle of view and my perspective. I'm not able to place my camera correctly in XSI. I must specified that it's also my first try in camera projection.

In this one i have change the day time to night cause i find the moon interesting in the composition. I also break some part of the walls. Tell me which one u prefered this one or the one with the walls not broken.

06 June 2007, 02:46 PM
Someone can give me help with a camera projection probleme? I have a white hallow around the place i have correction with my second camera who project the correction. The correction is a .tiff with an alpha. I though that it could be an premultiply problem but i unmark it in the render option and it didn't change.

Help me pls !

06 June 2007, 09:43 PM
looks like your alpha is getting white information from the colored image. In the texture the edges must go a little bit over the edge of the alpha. The easiest is to use a complete image everytime and not cut out with white background.

good luck.

06 June 2007, 03:17 AM
Thx marco for ur help, the white color is created when i let the background transparent in photoshop and the selection always have this little gradient of one pixel, so i only put a layer with my background black but has u said i can also let my image under, didn't think about that .
