View Full Version : Problem with IK handle

Hi everyone!

Can anyone please help me solve this problem i am having with an IK handle. I am rigging this android for animation. it is almost complete, but for some reason when i apply an IK handle (from shoulder to wrist) it twists and contorts the geometry. I have applied an IK handle to the left arm (shown in picture) and it works beautifully, but the exact same IK handle creates a major problem on the right arm (shown in 2nd picture). Can anyone please help me solve this problem. Is there a way to just duplicate/mirror the left arm with its riggging etc intact? Many thanks in advance for any help.

Did you use mirror joints on your arm hierarchy? The sequence that I've found best works for symmetrical rigs is:

1. build one side of the joint hierarchy while the character is in the default pose.
2. mirror the joint hierarchy to produce a symmetrical arm hierarchy on the other side.
3. apply ik on both arms after mirroring, also apply any necessary pole vectors.
4. skin or constrain the geometry after ik's have been laid out and tested.
