Welcome to the challenge :)

Thanks for the tips.
Here is version 1.75... ish still a few tweaks till stage 2 complete.
Not quite sure what constatutes the show workings part?

04-19-2007, 02:34 AM
Nice work on the perspective, i like the reflection but it will look too clean for the third part of the challenge :). I think the left column at the end of the stair is too bif compare to the other . maybe just too high.

Thanks for the tips, will have a closer look (needs a bit of scale and rotate maybee). The clean look is all part of the plan, i figure if I am gonna dirty it all up I might as well start with shiney and clean then the difference will be greater.

Stage 2 complete.

And here are 3 visuals. I am leading towards the winter one. The "hellgate" one I would use some spookey statue (like from the Omen) coming out of the ground but have just used a quick place holder sphere for now.

Hey Matty , I like your second concept with the snow the most. I think all of them need a little something in the background. Some more buildings maybe. Keep it up :D

04-24-2007, 02:10 PM
I agree with matt , if you're showing outside, we should see more ruined buildings from the city as well,

the second one is better to me too

04-24-2007, 02:51 PM
I think the first one has potential to build on, the second concept works really well and the third is just plain evil :) but not working as well as the first two, go with the snowy scene :)

- Dave.

Hey thanks guys, looks like the snow one it is.
I will change the layout, ad more detail and probably crop now, the 3 visuals were more for look or feel guides to stage 3. I just hope I finish in time.

04-26-2007, 04:22 AM
Markings of a madman.... most likely. Now I have a theme I have roughed out a layout and made myself notes so I can start on stage 3, there will be alts but this is a start.

04-26-2007, 05:34 PM
Hehe... The landscape on the first concept looks like what I see from my window. :)
Let it snow!

05-07-2007, 02:45 AM
Kinda funny, because it never snows here, so I have no idea how to paint snow, not sure why I picked this one?
Here is a wip, I have started to grime up the building and have made the broken ends to the walls. Going for a moldy black water damaged base for the snow.

Almost done, I will most likely ditch the tree I dont think its helping.
Not sure how much time I will get before the deadline to do any major adjustments.

05-24-2007, 09:31 AM
I think you need some more details in the snow. especially the tree looks too flat. Adjusting its darks and lights and erasing some pixels where you expect to view through it on the ruin part is going to help. you need a darker shadow at the edges of the snow to integrate the elements (helicopter, left arches wall, dark room on the right). Lowering the glow might also help. keep it up.

I Love your concept and almost went with a snowy frozen image myself. It may add some interest with a little more color in your picture. I know you have never seen snow, so I will try to help a bit, we have it for about 7 months straight where I live. When snow falls it does not look like lines as rain does. It is flakes and swirls around things especially when the wind is blowing too. It will drift and build up in the open spots, guess the best way to give you an image of this would be to have you google drifted sand dunes, it is about the same concept just a different color. Snow will take on the color of the sky, so if your sky is blue the shadows in the snow are blue and it sparkles like diamonds when the sun is out and hitting it. If the sun is setting and pink then the snow takes on a odd pinkish tinge, so it is like your whole world is pink. You have the heavy overcast blizzard sky, so it is hard to get color. Maybe some touches of color in the building and the vehicle? The tree would be bare and have no leaves.

I hope some of this helps and I have not been harsh.

Hey thanks Ivy00 & Inlakechh, I really appreciate the pointers.
I am unfortuatly pretty busy at the moment but will do my best to open it and make some adjustments before the deadline. I think the tree will go, it was on the wrong perspective and I skewed it which is not helping its flat look.
I wil try and find your posts and return the favors.

Oh. Ivy00, not to harsh at all, infact it sounds beautiful, but cold.

05-24-2007, 10:05 PM
ha ha good, yes it can be beautiful and awful cold. I am just glad it finally got warmer where I live :)

06-01-2007, 05:56 AM
ok, here is my final version.
Not sure what size to post? My final is 4300x3000 pixels and 964 MB (I dont like to flatten layers, ha ha). I trashed the tree because i didn't think it was working. Pretty happy with it as a whole, well that was till I checked out some of the other ones here, dang some nice work out there. Well its my first matte painting so Im just glad to make the deadline.
Thanks all
