View Full Version : Bizzare binding problem.. please help!

So I'm working on a character rig and went with the three chain FK/IK switch setup, and I ran into this insane problem.

the rig itself seems to be working properly:

However, upon binding the arm, this is the kind of deformation I'm getting....

The weights seem to be fine...

I have no idea what is causing the arm to deform like this.. everything seems to be working properly..except that bind. Even if I choose to rotate the actual skeleton the mesh is bound to I get these odd deformations.

Has anybody seen this before and do you have any advice on how to fix it? If it helps.. heres my bind settings:

Any help would be greatly appreciated... this is boggling my mind.

Well the obvious question. Did you bind to all of the arms (base, IK, and FK) or did you just bind to the base arm? You should only be binding to the base that switches between the two.

Yes, the mesh is only bound to the base skeleton, that was one of the first things I checked out when I got the problem.

Check the names of your joints. Its possible you accidentally named the bind shoulder the fk shoulder and vice versa.

I checked the names and they are fine.

I deleted the point constraints and played with the base arm and the mesh deformed fine, but when I added the constraints again, and weighted it to either fully IK or fully FK, I got the weird deformations again.
