Well, i still working on this one, but when doing it, i thought this one could be a full image, due to the fact i don't know how will be the final WIP.

Anyway... hope you'll be not disappointed about this one not really finished.

what do you mean it is not finish. this model is the bomb the textures are exellcent the render is great and the model it ahhhh.

inspiring work you´ve done there! the head is really soft and fleshy. I also like the metal and the color range you used. I took a look at the progress of this image and I must say it truly turned out nicely in the last worksteps.

Great work Strike, I love the texturing...particularly the metal!

This guy looks tough and dangerous, definitely a battle-hardened look to him, he's seen action and could probably crack some skulls without too much trouble :D

Reminds me of the Firebat from Starcraft....can hear him saying "I loooove the smell of napalm!" while hosing down a pack of zerglings with his flamethrower :)

Oh, and I really like the damaged look to his left eye.

Could you post some info on your texturning methods; procedurals? Image maps? UV or projection? :)

Thx all !! :)

For surfacing i used both procedurals and image maps :

first i created this one under photoshop with different brushes and selections :

Then i created all my procedural like below, and playing between them and alpha images, created with the last one desaturated.

Then i reproduced the main procedurals between my speculars, reflections and bump.

And most important things to have this feeling was a HDRI in background, that is mainly orange/yellow/copper colored.

Then i did the same for the most clear section, by just changing my color from the color map to a lighter one.

Mind you, in the time honoured fashion of critique maketh masters grandmasters...

I had a good look at your wires, and it strikes me that you could get much more control over your bevelled details if you add a few more edges. Im talking specifically about those bevelled in round pits in the shoulders. The meshsmooth makes 'em round, but you could get much nicer shapes at lower meshsmooth iterations.

...but like anyone but an anal retentive mesh modeller would notice.

this has always been my problem. the image map looks photorealistic enough. i dont think i'll be able to get anything like that in photoshop, unless i use a photographed image. if you dont mind me asking: how did you do it? and how long did it take you?

your work is awesome: it reminds me of the brotherhood of steel's power armor. your textures are excellent.. i wish i could be half as good as that.:drool:

well thanks to all of you guys (and girls ?) :) I can't answer to each of you, but i was not expected so many replies for this image :)

Anyway I don't think i deserve an award for this one like some of you tell about it, it's just an image ;)

faulknermano : About doing this kinda image under photoshop i would just tell you to create your own brushes. Have a BG paint unicolor, brush all around with some special forms, and then select some part with magic selection, create some new layers with different colors on this selection, and do that 3 or 4 times. Then you just have to copy the whole thing and change the main colors in one (red colors for this one) Secret is creating your own brushes.

Really nice work!

I like the forms of the model - simply nice design.

If I would crit something:
the rivets on the armor next to his head (on both sides) arent all circular - it seems strange in my opinion, you should make them all the same shape and not mix circ - oval . The texture is well painted but a bit regular. It would be cool to make armor painted and scratched / rusted in weathered areas.

Inspite of my comments its pretty solid nice work!!

Great work. Nice color choice. My only crit would be that in the modeling the bridge at the top of the nose where it meets his brow seems pinched even though his expression is relaxed. Very minor tho.
