View Full Version : Is there a "shut-on-LAN?"

sure, there is wake-on-LAN, but is there a function to do the opposite, to shut off a computer on the LAN? And how does one go about doing it through a strictly peer to peer network?

There is a number of free remote shutdown tools you can download. Microsoft has a utility on the Resource Kit called shutgui.exe. Apparently shutgui is built-in into XP also, not sure about it.

If you search Google for shutgui.exe or "remote shutdown" you'll find a bunch of them.

excellent, thanks. So there's nothing built into the router for that I assume?

No. I think if you try to run it as a user that does not exist on the target machine it's going to ask for username and password.
