what is the best metod in maya to do realistic facial animation?
joint setup
blend shapes based on muscles and in between shapes to simulate the quality of the skin
control splines (i see this in some xsi facial rigs) ,are simple splines with nulls with a path constraint then curve is animated with shapes or clusters and this simulates the sliding of the skin. but in my opinion is tedius to weighting with complex control splines rigs and it can imitated with blend shapes .
