the best monitors I can suggest.. other than the Silicon Graphics monsters, is Cornerstone, they are a bit more expensive...
but they are Incredibly clear!
and if I am not mistaken, all of the 21" monitors support 1600x1200@85, but my p1700 supports 1600x1200@100
they are incredible monitors, and even tho they say 'refurbished', that just means that they replaced all of the parts minus the plugs or something,
at least, I think.. but I ordered my p1700 refurbished and it could have been called 'new' and I wouldn't have been able to tell, factory wrap, manual, disk, awesome condition :)
check out their reseller rating: http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2088.html
can't recommend them enough,
and watch out for the Philips 21" monitors, they are friggin horrible!
I wish I hadn't spent $550 on mine, for a hundred bucks more, I could have gone with a cornerstone.. bah...
and my Philips had me convinced that i needed glasses it was so blurry..
but my vote goes to cornerstone

I'm very happy with my Sony G520. Not pro-grade but Newegg has them for < $700.00

thanks for the info, guys.
that Cornerstone looks like a pretty nice deal, esp for just over $500.
looking at the ViewSonic 21" which seems to be almost the exact same thing, just at 85 instead of 100, but i have not been able to find any reviews.
anyone know of any good websites where I can get reviews/comparisons of monitors?
