i never had the chance to use particle studio so im not sure what the differences are. is it still being used / supported?

First there was SandBlaster, a simple event based particle system in MAX R1 around 1996.

Then there was Particle Studio, the next evolution of Sandblaster in a more open system for MAX R3 around 1998.

Finally there was Particle Flow, another evolution with an even more open and flexible system.

They are all written by Oleg Bayborodin and each is a logical next step on the concept of event-driven particles.

Never use particle studio but PFLOW is better anyways.:)
