View Full Version : Spikes, artifacts in the dis map (Please help)

I've been working on MB for few days and couldn't get a dis map out ot MB successfully. Please take a look at the snapshots.
I first built the model in Maya, then got texture map in Unfold3D, then bring the Obj into MB for detailing. However, all the dis maps I got out of MB are full of spikes and artifacts. The MB ducuments only says "Spikes, artifacts in the map are because LowRes doesn’t match close enough to highRes, bad UVs." That's more like a reason than solution to me What does that really mean and how can I fix that?

I did try to smooth the mesh in Maya before bring it into MB, but it didn't seem help.
Eldee in the Mudbox forum suggested moving the uvs to keep them within the 0-1 space in the texture editor, I tried that but didn't help.Coule someone please ponit out the right direction for me.

The problem went away after reintalled XP, might be something with the system.
