View Full Version : Stork Wing Rigging problem NEED HELP!

I used a 3ds max 9 and make a wing rigging for my stork.

Look at initial wing position:


and when i move my IK Chain Object at y axis apear a problem!


my wing bone rotate feathers down but is incorrect :( !
look at this pic to see my problem:


How i can control a rotation for every bone?

well....first....i wouldn't use ik for the wing...unless you want to stick the wing tip to something ..wich i doubt.

so go for fk instead

you really should read max refference before starting to rig. i have read it, it really helps

like zzama said, use fk for it. just don tapply IK to the bones.
i made this one here:
(only the one on the website)

opening and closing the wings is a hard things to rig, so i avoided it in animation. justone time i used it. you have to click on the tv-spot to see it.

you need 3 bones for the wing and best is one for each feather. then hand animate the whole thing and likely you need some corrective morph shapes as well.

couple of notes for the animation. i dunno how much test is it but anyway.
- keep the legs straight till the feet hit the ground, otherwise you take the feeling of impact. the timing you have is already quite good
- have the long neck always go in a nice curved shape manner, like bezier curve. dont break it.
- after landing you want some small little steps to balance the stork out

for the rigging of the wings... all i did (and you need) is to watch some reference footage to find out HOW these wings actually move and fold.
