I seem to like the post, but i dont really know what Steampunk is, maybee i will look at wikipedia, beacuse i have an idea. maybee is to make something about the art we know from Starwars movies, but changing the concept a little bit? Like a CHiguagua instead Chubaka? please somebothy help me to understand this thread...thanks :)

I always wanted to contribute, now finally I have done something! \o/
Another Personal goal achived. Thanks to Goro for his brushes!

03-25-2007, 02:11 AM
CHiguagua instead Chubaka, seems like a great ideer, u mean the lapdog kind? give it some ironcast collar to stay in tune then. (steam punk is industrial revolution mixed with no future of the 80's look think malcom mc and vivian westwood, r2d2 and c3po :P.)

03-25-2007, 09:49 AM
ok, here is mine, i hope it matched what was wanted... it took me around 1 hour, i discover the fantastic color dodge mode tool, in photoshop, hope u like it... (

03-25-2007, 10:31 AM
I did Padmé. Don't know much abot Star Wars, but I LOVE steampunk. Yay my first daily sketch!

Great topic and fantastic sketches people!

60mn - photoshop

03-27-2007, 08:32 PM
Oh I so wish I could join this! I toyed with the concept of a "World Wars" version of SW, and this is kind of a close fit. I even did a paper sketchup of a X-Wing/Biplane hybrid. But alas, my current tablet (Aiptek T-8000U) really sucks and I doubt I could order a proper one quick enough for the contest, so I guess I'll just wish everyone good luck!

03-27-2007, 08:40 PM
hi there

nice posts !

here's mine. Not to happy with it .

ps/wacom 45 min

03-27-2007, 11:31 PM
R2 as boiler - 5 mins or so pencil sketch, hour in Satori.

p.s. Robertt has Star Wars steampunk nailed!! Really nice concept.

03-27-2007, 11:54 PM
AWESOME design, specialbrew!

03-28-2007, 05:24 PM
Very nice jobs everyone! Redfrog, great looking stormtrooper!

Great topic, I had to do more than one... maybe will do more :scream:, it's too much fun.
Han Solo.
He's bit of a scoundrel... always fixing his flying machine "the Falcon".

35 minutes or so. Artrage2.
Boba Fett.
Bounty Hunter, wearing the uniform of the Mandalorians.
Equipped with high pressure steam jetpack.

Don't know the time, but definately under 60 min. Artrage2.
Thinking up stuff takes up most of the time...

2 seater light fighter flying machine with harpoon.

around 60min of doodling... could use more steampunk elements perhaps...

03-29-2007, 05:39 AM
Yoda says:

Art2- "Impressive your snowspeeder is. "

Special Brew- "colour range liking i am. "

RedFrog - "Cool drawing you have. "

ikuru - "A disturbance in the Force! Two lense flares i sense! Surely a path to the dark side it is!"

Robertt - "Many striders you have. Long legs and impressive depth of field you bring."

DanielH - "Ah, much wisdom I sense, learn from each other we can."

Here's mine:

"Photoshop CS i use. 60 minutes of painting it took"

03-29-2007, 05:43 AM
thanks Shawshank! Your Yoda is looking great and he's a mechanical steambot

03-29-2007, 06:35 AM
Hahaha Shawshank you're a genius!

p.s. thanks Mitchelhunt for the compliment.

03-31-2007, 07:04 PM

04-04-2007, 12:53 AM
Late entry on this one, and WAAAY over time, but I couldn't resist. About 3hrs 20, total.

04-04-2007, 01:07 AM
God this thread is so cool I am tempted to make it into a sticky.

Guys please do keep posting on it.

04-04-2007, 07:46 AM
heheh, thanks Roberto :)

Caveat, excellent!

04-04-2007, 09:35 AM
Caveat - OMG thats amazing

Shawshank - you get the comments award!

great thread

04-04-2007, 10:27 AM
ikuru - "A disturbance in the Force! Two lense flares i sense! Surely a path to the dark side it is!"

he, he, yeah actually I think my entry sucks and was considering to take it out all together but I cant be bothered. Your yoda is cool, some nice stuff here!

CaveatScoti, WOW!

04-04-2007, 09:55 PM

Boushh - the mysterious bounty hunter.

Like Caveat, I couldn't stop this sketch... I stopped at 2.5-3 hours... definitely under 3 hours.

04-05-2007, 02:19 AM
Art2, I love your Han and Boba! And specialbrew's R2-as-boiler is also exceedingly cool. Here's my steampunk Grand Moff Tarkin:

It took about 45 minutes -- you can tell when I started to rush cause his boots are all scribbly. :D

It looks a bit like Peter Cushing, right?...Right?

04-05-2007, 04:16 AM
This thread has really exploded! Awesome work! Special notice to Caveat and Art 2 :)

another one, 1hr and ten.

04-05-2007, 05:37 AM
danielh68, that's a sick sketch, man. Love Jabba as the combination circus-ringmaster/pimp.
How did you do the spirally bits (aka tubes) around his seat? some sort of special brush?

04-05-2007, 05:51 AM
Guys I am going to move this thread to the WIP 2d section, so in effect this will be am OPEN thread as long as you guys want it to be.

04-05-2007, 05:59 AM
So we can post multiple works now?

04-05-2007, 06:09 AM
So we can post multiple works now?
You always could do that...

Anyway, looking forward to more work.

04-05-2007, 07:06 AM
that's great Roberto! You might as well get rid of that time limit, heheh... :D

CarlG, good sketch! I had the same idea :)

Daniel, awesome! Colors please :D

04-05-2007, 11:10 AM
danielh, thats supersweet.

04-05-2007, 01:27 PM
Thanks everyone :)

Art2 - thank you, if I find time I will.

carlg - Thanks, as well. That particular brush is found in the PS assortment brushes. It just an overlapping circle. It's a great brush for discovering forms. If you can't find it, let me know and I will send it to you.

04-05-2007, 04:06 PM
Ok moved the thread..

Have fun guys!

04-05-2007, 06:29 PM,

CaveatScoti ( : thanks a lot for inspiration.. and your work is awesome

04-05-2007, 11:49 PM

Great stuff everyone.

04-08-2007, 05:46 PM
This stuff just rocks you guys, I didn't have time when it was up in DSF , but I think I might give it a shot.

04-15-2007, 12:55 AM
That is just cool Daniel, I am not sure which one I like best of yours :)

04-15-2007, 04:38 PM
Thank you, Ivy00 :) Here's another one I did this morning.

04-19-2007, 05:41 AM
This thread is great!

Just upload your image in a hosting site (Like Photobucket) reply to this thread and post your image. (there is a image icon on the rediting panel to upload images)

04-23-2007, 03:02 PM
Ok thanks a lot!!!
I'll try immediatly.
I felt lost cause I was sure i can post my portfolio or through outer sources.

04-23-2007, 03:19 PM

I've done this quick sketch in about 1 hour 45 minutes with Photoshop cs2.
I think that WW1 is a good inspiration to me:threnches, barbedwire, gas mask and old planes fit in with Steampunk here we are with Old X-Wings model.
CeC are extremely WELCOME

04-23-2007, 03:28 PM
Sorry for the double posting!

04-23-2007, 04:49 PM
Daniel, Painboy, Ming very nice stuff guys!

04-24-2007, 11:16 PM
Hi, this is my first post here at CGTalk....I think.

So, I really liked the idea and laid out a quick sketch in painter, and then rendered it abit. Thats all, about one hour I think. ( (

04-26-2007, 05:17 AM
This is an awesome thread, and it already has a lot of cool ideas. Here's my quick contribution

04-26-2007, 01:49 PM
Man, some really fantastic submissions since I last checked :)

System 404, your piece steals the show. What a clever and stunning re-imagination of the Lord of the Sith  Excellent!

04-27-2007, 06:26 AM
Thanks danielh68! Here's another one a with a little bit more work. I'm going to try and do a couple more. I think I'll do Luke next.

04-27-2007, 09:06 PM
Here's another one. The propulsion would be steam-powered piston engine with propeller in the rear :)))) (

04-30-2007, 04:13 AM
another quick one. Not too happy with it, oh well.

04-30-2007, 04:43 AM
God *_* Your work is fantastic System404! I want to join the rebellion right now!
The force is in this thread ;D

05-03-2007, 02:21 PM
Polluting! Now that's evil! Outstanding work from System404 BTW!

This is a great thread. Going to post a few I think.

05-04-2007, 08:40 PM
That last one seriously made my doodie twinkle...

05-05-2007, 10:03 AM
Glad I could help :D

05-05-2007, 02:20 PM
miljenko1 & CaveatScoti - those are some excellent ship designs. :)

System404 - your new additions are equally as stunning as the first. Very cool propaganda vibe.

05-06-2007, 02:47 PM
Thanks Daniel, I also like your stuff + 404's, Caveat's & Ming's.

Here's two more pieces: Death Star & Bobba Fett ( (

05-09-2007, 07:52 AM
Awesome entries! Love the air ships CaveatScoti and miljenko1. Well took a little more time on this one, it was a lot of fun.

It ended up being bigger than I wanted it, so make sure to click the image for a larger version (

05-09-2007, 12:37 PM
That's a classic System404!

Your Chewie is awesome!!!

05-15-2007, 06:00 AM

05-15-2007, 02:29 PM
System404 this is great work...
Looking forward to what else you have in mind.

05-15-2007, 02:31 PM
Love your droids, System404. The little faucet on r2's head is adorable :)

05-25-2007, 08:48 AM
I am shamelessly bumping this as this is one of the most exciting threads I have browsed on CGTalk in a long time.

Excellent work, folks!
P.S: I want to see this in cinemas! George!

06-11-2007, 12:45 AM
well I had this one done for a while now just wasn't too happy with it, I like the idea of having Leia be a lot more active on the leading of the Alliance's Revolutionary Movement, but I'm not to happy with the piece overall.
Any comments and critiques are always welcomed

06-11-2007, 01:32 AM
It's very French Revolution-esque. But then I saw the stars so I thought it was American Revolution-esque.

06-11-2007, 01:39 AM
Hard to believe I missed this thread..guess I'll break out the books and think about something...excellent idea...great work Marcel

This thread actually will be used as a basis for a future Modeling mini challenge.
So keep the designs coming.

10-23-2007, 04:55 PM
sounds like another great idea...

10-24-2007, 12:43 PM
ahhhhrgh... where do you get all these great ideas, Roberto?

that reminds me of Robert Bloch's answer to this question (author of Psycho):

"I really have the heart of a small boy. I keep it in a jar on my desk"

10-24-2007, 06:43 PM

The kid I was in the 80's is alive and well :)
I really LOOOVE this.

10-26-2007, 01:24 AM
ok time for another one, this time old Ben Kenobi. I really liked Eric Poulton's take on the character of Obi Wan, especially his "gentleman" look. I took it a little bit further and sort of had him with a more "sand" people look to him. Having spent years in the Tatooine deserts have changed Obi Wan to adapt a more tribal look to better blend in the region.
Initially I wanted him to be smoking opium but opted on the hookah for design purposes.
Like always critiques and comments are always welcomed.

10-26-2007, 01:40 AM
System404 you are a walking gayzer of ideas :P

And just stolen most of ideas :D

Awesome work 5* thumbs\fingers up everyone :-D

10-27-2007, 08:48 AM
Wow, and I was about to remove this thread from my bookmarks.. :-) Might I kindly ask if a wallpaper-compatible version of ol' Obi-Wan could be made available? :-D

10-28-2007, 10:36 PM
I tried my hand at a yoda.. heh

Didnt come out too well, since i tried to color him in sketchbook pro.. -.-

Rome Imperium - 2009
Victorian Lord Or the Rings
The Matrix - 1968

01-05-2008, 09:31 AM
I'm seriously into this thread. I love 404's stuff (esp. the rebellion) and Marlon's too. I really liked the airships and caveat's pic. Keep it up, guys!

01-05-2008, 07:14 PM
Victorian Lord Or the Rings
The Matrix - 1968
Oh yes... that is some great inspiration! Why the hell didn't they made the LOTR films with a victorian influence... that would be amazing!

Bye swords, hello swordcanes! Bye bye megatrolls hello steam-machine!

BTW... I drop in here now and then to see if anyone made some additions... and it is great.. all of it... Almost like star wars happend long ago and we have the art still lying around :)

Anyway... thanks everyone!

01-08-2008, 09:07 PM
First time visitor, first time poster. The epicness of this thread compelled me to join the site. I Absolutely LOVE 404's works by the way. I was first drawn to it because I'm a hardcore steamer (Steampunk fan. I made up that term, so I wouldn't use it unless you're OK with looking like an idiot. Like I am), but now I might cook something up on GIMPshop for this thread.

By the by, there IS a Steam Trek. The main page is, but the YouTube silent-era film they made is at:

Hell I might do some sketches myself...

04-14-2008, 04:25 PM
Saw this thread and thought I'd post a wee doodle.

Steam Grievous. I know he isn't 'classic trilogy', but I thought he'd look good with a bit of extra brass.

Done with photoshop and good old pencil and paper. :)

08-25-2008, 09:14 PM
This WILL BE the next topic for the HCR modeling challenge...
And the people will be able to pick from the sektches in this thread..

So if you want to contribute a design you have about 3 weeks!

Hi all,

This is a really cool challenge. I never heard of Steam Punk until now. I love it!
There are some awesome sketches here. Great work everyone!

I won't be entering the challenge because I'm brand new at this stuff and have a long way to go before I'm ready. Need to learn about rendering, lighting, texturing, etc. etc.....but, I worked on this for a couple of days and thought I'd share :)

09-27-2008, 05:48 PM

09-29-2008, 07:25 AM
It's very French Revolution-esque. But then I saw the stars so I thought it was American Revolution-esque.

Well, it's basically an Americanised pastiche of Eugène Delacroix's "La liberté guidant le peuple" ( so, yeah, on both counts.

10-01-2008, 03:33 AM
We are live...

Guys you may post more concetp art on this thread..

10-03-2008, 10:51 AM

10-03-2008, 01:24 PM
Chewbacca, crazy crazy monkey

10-03-2008, 01:37 PM
Those are some unbelievably cool concepts, Bjorn! I'm tempted to do the Storm Trooper or Yoda, but I'm just too busy with other things. I hope it's ok with you if I model one of these later down the road. They're just so damn cool!

10-06-2008, 03:52 PM

10-07-2008, 01:29 PM
thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words a lot!

10-07-2008, 06:11 PM
I have some more kind words, well a huge list of them, but amazing concepts, cool design, and brilliant work, are all I can say, I'm sure many others would like to use some of the words on the list. 10000 Words.

10-07-2008, 09:24 PM
another quick one, I am kind of new on speed paint so I really don't know when to stop and to me it looks to detailed to be a speed paint but not good enough to be a finished piece anyway I just want to show you the concept.
