View Full Version : Toonline Guidance Required

Hi there ,

I have been working on toon shaders for quite sometime now, but been using it mostly in max. This time my project is in Maya and I am trying to find out the most flexible solution for rendering Lines. What would you suggest?

1.I am trying out Mray contours right now, as i have seen its clean lines in max. but I am facing a problem that even after following all of ur steps, I am not able to get the lines to change width according to the distance from camera.I have used the correct depthfade node but it just doesn't seem to work. Also how do I get both curvature based lines and depth based lines together, so that they are affected by both the parameters.

2.Also, one more thing, the angle for lines according to normals variation can only be set in the render globals, making it global for all the shaders. Can we, by using some workaround, set it sepereately for each shader?

3.How do set user defined lines? Like maybe I want a line under the eyes to show wrinkles. In max, I used to select those edges and create a crease(normals all hard), then would switch on crease lines in finaltoon. Maybe I'll have to use Maya pfx lines for that as it has that option.Any way of doing it in Mray contours?

It would be great if could guide me in this RnD, Also, is there some other plugin with even more flexibility?

Waiting for replies...!

Sorry I've not really used them so can't help you directly. But this is a texturing forum, I think you will find more success in the rendering forum or the rendering forum for your app since its more of a shader issue than a texturing one. Cheers.
