Lot of very good choices to chose from, but ultimately, I think Bela Lugosi would be the most original option for me to model. I've always been fascinated by his eyes and the iconic "Dracula stare."

Are you going to go for a color rendering or keep it black and white? That is of course if you texture him....

I do plan on texturing him, yes. Once textured, I will make two versions: one in color, the other in B&W. I'm also going to buy the 75th anniversay edition of the Dracula (1931) DVD as well as a life cast for references.

The head base mesh is complete. I realize the likeness is no where near, but just wanted to hammer it out as quick as possible, going for good topology and an overall efficient and clean base mesh. Other than the back of the eye sockets, everything is in quads.



Next I plan on modeling the rest of the upper torso (shirt, vest, jacket, suit) and pants; posing it; and finally, taking everything piece-by-piece in Mudbox.

Added jacket (need to add a pocket), pants (need to model the zipper portion), and the bowtie. Everything pictured and that which has yet to come (shoes and hands) will receive the Mudbox treatment.

Been a while since my last post, I know. Last week I worked on posing Lugosi. Pretty much done and ready for Mudbox detailing. Speaking of which, here is a current Mudbox WIP of my Lugosi bust. Could use some crit's and suggestions.

the nose is too big and there is something wrong with the eyes. i dont know what.

Hey Marc, thanks for stopping by my thread! I agree w/ you about the nose and will fix that for sure. About the eyes, do you mean the eyeballs themselves? Or the brows?

Currently, however, my eyes needed a break from staring at his intense gaze and started work on the shirt, vest, jacket, and hand. Nothing really detailed to report, except the hand, so far.


Currently at level 3 at 48k polys. Still adding wrinkles, folds. Fingernails will be added last probably. The hand itself and fingers are probably a lil too skinny as well. Will fatten them up a bit later.

Maybe you have and just didn't post it but I am pretty sure one of the rules is that you have to model the body too not just the clothes. Great work btw very nice I love the hand.

Well you dont have to model the naked figure for this sort of model.
In this case I dont see the clothes as accessories they are part of the core figure.

Good look and great work so far.

I was never really satisfied w/ those eyes myself. So I reworked it from Level 0 to Level 2 in Mudbox. Nose is fixed, although I'm not 100% satisfied w/ it yet. I also adjusted the forehead, even though it may be unnoticeable; and added the base hair in the scene. Also, just for fun, I did some simple light setups in max. Nothing fancy (just two spotlights).
