I've decided to go with Neo for my entry for this challenge. Hopefully, I'll be creating more than one model, but this will be my first.
Attached is the current model I have for Neo's face. There's still something off about it, and I'm not sure what it is. Suggestions are quite welcome. Also, I was wondering what others were going to do for creating hair. I have Shave 'n Haircut, but is that the best method?

hes too narrow at the jaw .. look at the ref pic in the upper right corner. his jaw-bone s comin out. right now its missin.

I think the forehead could be a litle bigger aswell. looking good, nice shading you hv going.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've done a lot of tweaking, and I'm still not satisfied with the likeNess, though I like the overall quality of the model better. Suggestions plz?

Nice work nice shading too just so suddjestions from some one less skilled. The eyes are weird looking they need more white area also the model should have keanu's squinty eyes look. But overall well done.

The eyebrows seem stretched in height. try making them slimmer like on the photos

Here's my latest update. I'm not sure I'm 100% satisfied with the likeness, but its much closer, what do y'all think? I think I'll move on, for now, to either texturing/shading his face (current texture is obviously warped from repeated sculpting since the last uv mapping and was a bit low res to begin with) or modeling the body.
As to the body modeling, I was planning on trying to model the body in the pose I want him, instead of the standard t-pose model, rig and then pose. I've never done it this way before... so, do y'all think that would be the way to go?

it's coming along nicely i would model him in a pose but that's because i suck at painting weights just make sure you get him in the pose you really like - rigging gives you the freedom
to try things out...

I hv never modelled the character in pose either, but can see that it has some advantages over rigging, firs one is that its faster, and you hv a better control over the end result, but i think rigging gives you more liberty in the end, for you can try different poses, and you could always animate him anyway.
its looking great, i would do a hair composition on photoshop to see how it looks with hair, and would go for the body, this contest is more about modelling, you already hv a very good texture going on, i wouldnt worry too much on it from now, if you hv time you can always rework on it later.

No update as of yet. I'm still working on tweaking the face, along with creating hair and Neo's trademark shades. However, I was wondering which pose would be best...

I like the neo from the roof top, much better. The costume with those gun supports, the bad ass face, that resumes how cool was the first matrix. Besides, i think the neo of the comp is from the first movie, but i may be wrong about that.

Well, I still haven't started on the body pose yet, getting bogged down with other work. However, I've added hair, and its looking good, I think. It's not perfect yet (still a little frizzy, and the sideburns scream Elvis). I'm also still not thinking the features really match Neo yet, just not sure what else needs changing. Hopefully I'll put a lot of detailing work in on him Saturday and I'll move on to the body.

Just to let everyone know, the files I've been using for Neo have become corrupted mysteriously. I have backup copies, but they are older, and it'll take me some time to get it back to where I was. I'm more than a little discouraged, but stay tuned... Hopefully I'll have something new to show in the near future.

hey thats too bad....i hate it when that happens....hope you get back to speed quickly and don't be too discouraged....i'm sure it'll come out even better than it was

Here is the new and (hopefully) improved bust of Neo. I couldn't remember most of the tweaks that I had made before the file corrupted, but I think the new changes I made are a good bit closer to his likeness. What do y'all think?
Also, a couple of things to note:
The skin shader is a temporary one. I will try my hand at SSS later.
The skin texture is also temporary. This will probably be one of the last things I update.
Similarly, the eye texture is just a placeholder. It is in fact just a 3d shader I downloaded, so it wouldn't meet the from-scratch requirements anyway.
I will be starting (again) on the body soon.
