Me and a bunch of buddies are making an rpg game which is 3d and we had a question whicj will decide the engine. First off: Would bones be hard to use in direct x and if yes are there any other ways to animate?
and second off: what should the poly count maximum on the scene(including charas, backdrop...) would be?

1, the .x format that is directx default model format is relative good and is very easy for both the programmer and the artist to use. bones are no problems.

2, That's so individual. I mean if the programmer suck then the scene could maximum be 10k faces. But if it's john carmack there's no limit.. I mean.. it depends on many things ;)

So does DirectX initially support bones as a part of the model?

if i don't recall totally wrong it's a part of the model, or you can use animation "hot-spots".

Not at the moment V_V. We only at the stage of developing it and decided not to waste time on a site yet but rather work!
