View Full Version : HARDCORE MODELING!: Ray Harryhausen Tribute: Cyclops
02 February 2007, 09:29 PM
Here's my take on Ray's cyclops character. I was planning on getting this all rigged up for animation but the way things have been going I'm not sure how complete I'll be able to get this by closing time. So far I've got the poly modeling close to complete but still need to create displacement maps, textures and other tweaks. The pose shown has only partial rigging and that's why the hands are not posed yet.

Here are some reference images I used. I was eager to try to replicate the look of Ray's latex model and while it's not at all perfect I think it's fairly close to Ray's creation. I came to this challenge rather late but I love Ray's work and wanted to join in. I had actually hoped to get further into getting an animation created but I certainly had to pare down my goals as I waded through this process. To say I that I learned a lot from this challenge experience would be a huge understatement. If nothing else, I am convinced that it's time for a computer upgrade. :)
A big thank you to Roberto for coming up with this challenge topic!

Hi Rick, thanks for the compliments and comments. I missed the posting deadline by about an hour as I was working on a different midnight here on the west coast. My own fault but it's not a big deal. The competition did prompt me to start work on a favorite character that I will eventually get a version modeled and rigged to my satisfaction. I enjoyed the opportunity to pay homage to Ray's work along with other of his fans and even a few contemporaries who might have also viewed the 7th Voyage of Sinbad during it first theatrical release. I'll post clips when I develop anything worth viewing.:)
