Hello, I am currently modeling a general human body. I am working on the arm, and I switch from rough to smooth to see how everything looks. But, after making my arm and smoothing it out, below are the results:



Please can anyone help me!!? Thanks in advance :)

Your making the same mistake that i am trying to overcome at the moment.. when modeling you DO NOT box it out and then use mesh smooth. You actually go in and draw every single one of the edges with a poly cut tool. A tutorial that helped me a bit is located at:

I'm not modeling a head... Anyway, I plan to use that tutorial for my head. I am not really following tutorials right now, just learning it on my own. I think for the end of the arm doing that, if I can't fix it, I'll just put my hand over it and cover it. But I am still looking for a solution to this problem. I am not sure why you gave me that link, I'm not doing a head and I haven't smoothed it yet, I am going to smooth it when it's all done. And about that poly cutting tool, I use the Split Edge Ring and Split Polygon when I need em. Everything else is just moving verts into proper places, shaping the geometry into a shape that you like and making it look plausible and making sure the geometry is as clean as possible.

The technique i previously described is used in almost all modeling especially in organics, not just a faces. correct me if i'm wrong but what your asking is "why is the end of the arm smoothing into a nub?" i would fix this by selecting all of the faces in the arm except the end cap, or even deleting it. Then connecting the hand by merging the verts in the end of the arm and the hand. I hope that helps

Hi. Can you describe abit more what your problem is. How would you like the arm to end up once it is smoothed?

It just looks weird to me. The folks at SimplyMaya tell me it's a normal smooth, so I think I'm good.

if your talking about the stump on the end just delete that face and have it open on the end.
