I'm trying to create a cable in Maya, and here's what i've done so far. I've modeled the two ends out of a polygon cylinder primitive and created a CV curve.

Next, I highlight the edges that I would like to extrude along a curve, and then I use edit polygons -> extrude edge.

I end up with this.

Now, Maya is doing what it's told, but not what I want. I would like the extrusions to be perpendicular to the curve, instead of parallel. How is this accomplished?

Hi! the cable looks like it has a very heavy geometry, wouldn't be simpler to just extrude a cube manually to get the shape you want?

hey there.
i would try to extrude the faces rather than the edges of the polygons. i think maya gets a little confused when you extrude edges with a curve because of the normals and curve direction. extruding the faces along the path curve should work better.

likewise, you could always create a nurbs circle curve and extrude that along the path. just set the extrusion to be a tube, and you can have the output geometry to be polygons. seems like you have more control this way
