Incredible attention to detail there... And it does have sort of a Bladerunner feel - and that is _never_ wrong! Any daylight shots to show? I think the first close-up is almost better than the full view. You must have some serious hardware to push all that geometry around too... Excellent! I give you five bouncing guys:

Great work. Looks like you used alot of ilumination maps on the gemoetry like Eric Hanson has done. I really enjoy the sense of space and the buildup of the different types of geometry. Please keep up the good work. I would love to see more.

the skyscraper in front is not just superduper detailed, renderd ...
but also impressive architecture.
the sinister mood and the heavy structure of the building with the glass parts that cut through the block take my breath ... and aaahm! yeah the trousers ...

this specification is just for the background
the post prod took about 3 weeks (2 days for rendering) where as the animation lasts 2 mn for the clip of calogero (sp6men production)
nevertheless the fact remains that the system has undeniably some problems because of speed of cameras system and also because we had too many animate texture,therefore, I worked more precisely on the texture and on the compositing 3d
I define "compositing3d" as a way to perform these 3d (layers) computations
it stands for :
layer of animate roads
layer for volume light
layer1 for lighting 3d
layer2 for lighting 3d
layer for the sky
layer for raytrace
layer for fog
each layer must be computed having due to regard to each sequences (4)
.computer : 8 station working (sgi/pc) (bipro 1gig)
.textures (animate) : 60 giga
.render/frames maxi : 4 min scanline process
.layers : 18
.faces : 500 000
.Frames : 2400

When i watched the Calogero video "En apesanteur" i wondered who did those great scenes.. I wouldn't ever think that max can be so powerful with large scenes.. I'm a new max users who was depressed because he finds out that every cool clip he watch is done with maya. but not anymore.
the animated maps..how did u create it ??

j ai effectivement une grande résolution pour la premiere image mais par pour le reste etant donné que ce travail est tiré du clip de calogero "en apesanteur" (que tu tu peux trouvé sur le net ) donc c est du format pal....et le probleme c est que je n ai pas de ftp pour posté tout ce que je veux, mon site sera bientot on line et il y aura plusieurs shoots explicatifs ainsi que du wallpaper.:p :p

Incredible work exquisitely detailed. Must have taken forever. Can you give us any details of your texturing process? Did you use modified digital images? Or were the textures made from scratch?
In the closeup screenshot I notice the building on the right looks similar to the Shanghai World Financial Center. (http://www1.umn.edu/urelate/m/winter2002/15shanghaicenter.jpg) Surely this must have been by design. Nice choice though, lovely building.

hey, tanks you all, i try to explain in english
the texture is a basic textures (just paint overt any photo or totaly paint for the forground) but thanks the compositing technique, this picture is not a full render of 3dsmax, 12 render (layer) compose this image (see page 4 ) , i separate ligthing too : right light, middle, left ect...for speed...what makes the variation of light is the cube reflexion (picture of real town ), the reflexion is a independant layer for manipulate in after effect.

Just wonderfull :D ... I have one little question did ya use a trick while rendering the city ? Like using a mirror at one end of the city to make it look bigger...
I rendered something to show that I mean
the objects are exactly the same in the 2 pic, the camera placement aswell... just a little diference in the texture

so, i used a a simple pluggin (i don't remender the name)who were useful to me has to duplicate the buildings, i create 20 different buildings and i paint with this pluggins on a planar, this plugg allows changed axes in scale and move (xyz)

I have no words about this.........this is the most fantastic cityscape environment i ever seen in my short period of life.
Its so perfect thjat i dont know how it is not rating five stars right now...
It also proves the determination and passion of the artist/architect/demi-god-creatrue for art , for making this kind of thing possible.

immediatly when i saw your pic it reminded me of something BUG compaigne would do. i wasnt really suprised when i saw it came from paris, i think all europe has such a wonderful eye for colors, i love the dark greens, the bright orange. beautiful pic.

I''m going to take a stab and say the plugin he used to generate alot of the city is "greeble". It's available free for max r3,r4, and r5, and you can download it here:
Please note, however, that his city it's a work of art, and this plugin will not just spit out a city for you. But it is exeptional for getting the basic modeling out, as well as laying out and mapping the geometry.

I did not use GREEBLE to create this city, I manufactured a score of original buildings then I used a script(greg leborgne) which resembles has Paint effect(or scatter) to duplicate the buildings.
