View Full Version : First time car modelling need some help

hi guys, this is my first attempt trying to build a car however i find some problems stop me from going further.
When i detach the door from the front part it is ok before meshsmooth, but after MS i loose the sharp turning corner (which i need) and the gap between them seems not stong and convicing enough, so please show me your tricks for this, hehe and thanks a lot.
Below are the 2 pictures. ( (

well not a Max user here, but Polygons calculate the same irrespective o' package used... What u seem to be facin' is caused by the edge, i.e. after mesh smoothenin'; not being "rienforced". The results u gettin' at the moment is caused by havin' a 3star with 2 o' the edges which are border edges, i would solve it by, extrudin' the border edge in ( would both give a sense o' depth/mass, an'would give an' area to hide untidy poly flow), an' then would try an' make the verts at the "pointy" end( which u wanna retain)...closer...that way when one runs mesh smooth...the averagin' o' tangents, for that area; is minimal....errrrr.....sorry....i can't do technical talk.....but i hope that helped? cheers:-D

Thanks, it helped indeed but for a newbie like me i still need a hell amount of effort to get a car together if its even possible for now. Again thanks a lot.

try giving the door some depth (shell modifier easiest way) and then chamfer the edge. all ur smoothing is doing is trying to smooth the corners.

also gettin a smooth result might be possible using smoothing groups, depends of tidy your model is.

hope that helps :)
