View Full Version : Ignoring Bump Mapping in GI Renders

02 February 2007, 03:33 PM, I have a small question about getting rid of the noise in GI renders. In the image above, there is a little cloudy patch (using a high radius for Global Illumination) on the surface of the model where it should be smooth. Is there a way to ignore the normal map when rendering with GI?

You need to use a custom 'ray-type' node such as ctrl-rays or rrays (, that will allow you to assign a seperate shader to diffuse and GI illumination. You can plug a surface shader with bump into your diffuse and a shader without bump into the GI. The ray-type then passes the result to the Material node.
Your bump map needs to go into the bump port of the surface shader, rather than into the bump port of the Marerial node, for this to work.

Hey, Ciaran, thanks for pointing me to that Ray-Type shader...that will be great to use on this.... I also forgot to mention that I am using Normal Mapping and DGS shaders.
