My website is back up so I should have no trouble displaying my progress.

Here is the final Concept. I named her Mistress Mahria, Shadow of the Society...wielder of the Death Scythe of the Society. Pretty corny eh?:D I also made a Desktop Background (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/48319527/) for it if anybody wants to check it out or download it or whatever...
Her wings are made up of a fluid that is extruded from her body at will. The tenticle like things coming out of her lower back and shoulder are the only solid parts and when flight is needed fluid secretes out of her pores into the wings shown giving her the ability to fly.
Weilder of the Death Scythe of the Society(corny I know) she is very quick and agile and is a very deadly fighter. Able to swoop in on her prey, decapitate them, and fly off before anybody is even aware of her presence. Though she isn't limited to melee attacks as her forearms are equiped with plasma disk shooters.
Although it may not be noticable...she's not human(other than the wings I mean)...if you look at her head she has little horns and the ears kinda make up part of her facial structure where her skin is darker(it's not like war paint or anything heh).

cool idea, Id suggest making the scythe be part of her , like instead of the wings, she has scythes.....
02 February 2007, 12:03 AM
cool! good work, i'm with airflow on possibly making the wings part of a 'weapon' or vice versa... nice touch with the logo too ; )
02 February 2007, 12:08 AM
You mean like have her arms be part of a scythe or have them coming out of her where the wings are almost like scorpion tails or something like that?
I dunno I kinda want her to stay winged, it's what the concept was started on and kinda a big part. Being able to fly will make her be able to get places normally untravelable and can make something normally unstealthy be able to slip past people unnoticed. I guess I shoulda left up the description though, she isn't winged all the time...I'm going to edit the above post with the description I think.
02 February 2007, 12:14 AM
hokay : )
my thoughts were more that the wings are energy based and can alter form to become used more like an energy blade or somesuch but i suppose it's one thing saying it and another entirely trying to get it to work on paper (sort of like if her wings were made of retractible blades that allowed both flight and the chopping of heads).
but you have to go with what you feel is right, it's what you'll be working on for the next few weeks and without that belief i'd imagine it'd be much less fun to work on ; )
-edit- ah, the description has returned! the fluids idea is a nice touch, guess what is i said 'could' still apply but it looks like you're coming up with a unique solution anyway :D

I kinda like the idea of the wings being another weapon though...hmm...
Can't really think of how to put that in though. Like you said I guess it's one thing to say it and one to implement it. With the idea of it being a fluid that shapes to her will that could be entirely possible though.
Another reason I want her winged is she is going to fly almost all the time, hence the long dress. It wouldn't make sense to keep the long dress look if she was gonna run around alot and stuff. I kinda just like the 'death from above' idea haha.
Thanks for the comments:)

With the reactivation of my website I should have no trouble displaying my progress now...so I thought I'd post my first model progress shot.
She's at ~2500 polys atm...just trying to keep it as smooth as I can...might have to cut some polys out when it's over though....all I have left really though is the head, wings, and wrap thing...and the wings I'm planning on doing alot of transparency stuff.
02 February 2007, 11:58 AM
interesting wing theory :P i personnaly thin that a semi transaprent wings will look very cool on this concept
02 February 2007, 07:41 PM
I think I'm done with the low poly model. She's at 5992 and the scythe is 999. I think I'll unwrap and maybe try doing some normal mapping next...never actually done a full normal mapped model though so I'm not real sure how it's going to turn out. Had some trouble putting the belt/wrap thing around her....almost changed it haha.
02 February 2007, 04:19 AM
I decided I didn't like the wrap thing...so I did a little redesign. It's a bit simpler but I like it better. I'm going to do a little transparency/design work on parts of it I think will look cool. Some how this way ended up exactly 6000 tris. so just a quick picture to show the change for when I post the next update nobody's like dub ole you tee eff what happened!?
02 February 2007, 06:24 AM
Looks pretty cool, I think you should have her hair slicked back, with the two bangs going over her ears then down. Nice work.
03 March 2007, 03:40 PM
I'm kinda unhappy where this is going. I was just going to slap a not so cool texture on it and call it finished today but since the deadline has been changed I'm thinking about actually completely changing my entry! haha. I'll probably post back in a few minutes or so with a new concept or an update to the current model to show what I decided...
03 March 2007, 09:26 PM
The new Mistress Mahria...
Might try and do a color over later, but I'm not sure. I will finish atleast one of these by the deadline...
I'm going to split the polycount between her and her pet. She has scythe like hands and bio shot weapons...similiar to the last design's shooters. The pet is kinda like a serpent dragon that is controlled mentally and floats/flys naturally and shoots bio shots out of his tail.
03 March 2007, 03:11 AM
I prefer your first concept... I liked the how she looked like guardian of nature, seemed to fit the theme of ancients better. But thats just my oppinion.
03 March 2007, 02:02 AM
I think i will probably try to finish the first one, the extended time is going by pretty fast and I havn't really had any time yet...so I think starting a whole new one would be a bad idea anyway. I think I was just a little tired of the old idea and was wanting something fresh...but this break I've taken from it might have been enough. I am however thinking of just dropping the wrap ideas all together and having her in basically a free flowing gown. That part of the model is just really turning me off of it I think. Maybe use the extra polys to model some jewelry from the concept. I've been thinking about just giving up 3d...no matter how much I try I always feel like everyone else is so much better than me! :wise:(this is not me whining or being sad, just realistic.)
03 March 2007, 10:15 AM
The gown doesnt bother me, I think the shape of the gown is good. I think the face and hands could use some work... but that depends on your goal, now she has cartoony proprtions.... if thats is what your shooting for, then go for it! If you wanted more realistic then I would tweak them some... but you better get on the texturing. Dont give up:thumbsup: , practice makes perfect right?
03 March 2007, 04:47 PM
I textured the scythe. It's the color, spec, and regular bump map since I'm not doing normal maps. I know it could definately use some more work...I slapped this together in about 20 minutes literally...I'm trying to unwrap her today and finish her up by the deadline now. Unwrapping really takes it out of me...haha.
03 March 2007, 04:52 PM
Thanks for the encouragment. I am actually more into cartoony proportions. I don't usually go for realism. She's also not human so I guess I could get by with just about any proportions I want haha. Though I guess she looks so close to human people will associate with that...but her head was meant to be kinda different because I added horns and there is kind of a gap between her hair and the ears and stuff...and I guess the ears themselves are kinda obviously different heh.
03 March 2007, 04:20 AM
Well, I slapped it together like I said I would haha. Some if it actually turned out alot better than I expected, though it is still quite sloppy. This is just a render to show it. I'll be building a platform and setting up my final entry images tonight or tomorrow sometime.
03 March 2007, 05:50 PM
Even though I'm sure I don't stand a chance, there is a feeling of accomplishment when you finish what you start, no matter how lazily it was finished. So here is my final submissions.
