Sharp Shooting vagabond
Final entry:
Latest pic:

Really cheesy text: (Comments mostly welcome.)
A revolverman, a vagabond, a lonely and silent wanderer.
Lucky Luke, or maybe Roland, the last gunslinger from Stephan King's Dark tower. The soul of a true sharp shooter, noble and wise, incarnated as a humanoid alien with a twist of the future.

The last guardian of his land - a land that may seem dead to those who do not see further than what their eyes see.
A bleeding heart and a revolver - he has sworn utter vengeance to those who destroyed the land of his brothers.
Those who crosses his path in his search will suffer!

This is what I have at the moment. A sort of future cowboy perhaps. I hope I got time to give it lots of love and hard work:)

WIP. As mentioned, its a future-gunslinger. Comments welcome, even if its very generic so far(more will come in a day or 2).

Wahoo. :) Go håkan. It'll be great. Good luck!

Update: Head "done". Not entirely sure if thats the style im searching. Considering that he have walked the desert alone the past hundred years maybe (?) in some sort of slumber, im not entrily sure how that would affect his look.

This is of course just the shell of my character. Laters I to work on what makes him more unique.

modeling is going gr8 man... u might hav to chkin in the transition of the ear and head and do u really want the fingers that small or are u gonna increase the length?

Thanks. I'll look over the ear, modelled in a seperate scene so I was a bit slack on attaching it:)

The hand is supposed to be like that (which btw only have 4 fingers). At the moment it more like, how to match up the rest of the body with the hand.

I am not working totally freehand, but simply dont have time enough to work on detail concept so some things have to be decided along the process. I had some cool ideas on a mechanical arm, but as it seems im not alone on that I maybe have to reconsider:D

Back from the dead. And to celebrate this i have made an update to the model. From now I guess its just to add the clothing details and start building all his items, like armor, boots, weapon and more.

Also made a wierdo paint over. Crazy enough, or too crazy?

Some new updates. Close-up on the face and a new update on the latest-image. Boots are in progress. Still not so sure about that strange hat, but I like the idea of the googles.

hi, i think the proportions of the body is little off if you are going for a male character. specially the hips look a little feminin

Tnx Mashru.

He is for sure no human, I plan later on to test various proportions but for now I try to keep it fairly human-alike. You were right about the hips, hope you will see the improvement next time I post a wip.

update on latest-image. Added his melee weapon, some sort of combined wolverine/gauntlet. Wish I had more time to work on design, but I dont:(

Highpoly should be done pretty soon. His weapon+some other details are being done aswell.
Next update I hopefullt will have the zbrushed version of the body.

Time for some updates again. His weapon is almost done, some of the parts are still only blocked out.

Beginning to reduce/rebuild the lowpoly torso, and here is an early test with automatic mapping. Maybe i have to optimize it some more.

I have no intentions to win, just trying to do my best before time runs out:)

his lower body strikes me as being very girlish. the waist down of that first picture you have posted, it could very well be a girl with clunky boots. it could be that the legs are modeled straight down together & seem to taper a lot, but wouldn't that also make it harder to rig?
and i know you're just blocking out the revolver, but i think it'd be cool if the top barrel fired from the bottom of the revolver chamber & the bottom one fired from the top barrel conventionally. just a thought out how that could maybe work. dunno how that would fire though. maybe side by side like a double barrel shotgun? just thoughts.

Thanks ill_logic. This is the kind of critics I wanted. Cowboys (which is partitially what i want him to be) had very tight pants afaik, so that why it turned out to be the way it is. But in this case I will change it.

I have never liked the boots, but now as you mentioned it, i noticed how damn ugly they are. I dont think i ever had any good ideas how to design them.

About the gun. I am well aware that its not really working like it is now:) my thoughts were to make it look alot more futuristic than it is now, and that the chambers were some sort of powercell (they are atm just blocked out). Theres alot space for crazy ideas, so i'll try working more on it if I got the time.

Bit of progress. (ignore the hat and "beard"). Considering its a wip-test, the normalmap translates pretty nice. A note is that I have not yet fixed the anatomy issues, my schedule will be veery tight so i'll try to progress for a final first.

03 March 2007, 09:03 AM
995 tris worth of revolver. I didnt have the time to redesign it, but i hope the new design makes more "sense", and that it also looks slightly more advanced than before.

There are some issues in the normalmap, specially at the edges. Have to redo them if they still show to clear with textures on.

03 March 2007, 06:55 PM
Texture coming along. Bit too cartoony at this moment, but there will be changes to the better (i hope).

03 March 2007, 10:29 PM
Saturday-evening-crunch. Jippie... But I really wanna get this done:)

Update on the textures, aswell as rigging and posing getting somewhere near finished. The normals are flipped incorrect (the tangentspace feature doesnt seem to work with MR), i'll solve that laters.

Any comment on the pose, or colors perhaps? (I know the render is crap)

03 March 2007, 08:29 PM
Have to call this shadow's texture final. Now I just have to tweak the normalmap, then its time for the specular-color map. And of course the weapon left...

My contest is over for this time. Dont have the time to work on it anymore. Best luck to the rest of you.

looks cool :), but would agree about the legs still. I think the thing with thinlegged men might be that their knees and ankles are thicker than womens so maybe give the legs a slightly more constant width? and also define the muscles more. women have more fat in between the muscles naturally so it's more smooth curves like in your model while mens legs usually have the muscles more defined even though they don't work out much.
and also his high crotch definately makes it not look like a mans lower body.

the gun looks cool but I can't imagine gripping it with such a thin handle! why didn't you make the handle properly thick? I mean he can impossibly press the triggers with precision as he'd have to cramp his whole hand to squeeze them :0

really like the face, nice characteristic expression.

lycka till! :)

I must admit i have became blind for the anatomy along the process. Usually i work alot faster than this, so I can avoid that sort of mistakes a bit easier.
And I actually wanted him to be very slim. and not the average bulky dude.
The weapon gotta have been the first i ever made, i know nothing about them;) and I stressed it out in like 2 days, its pure designwork, nothing else.

And btw. the render is crap, textures looks blurry. thats cus i had to switch to pixeros normalmap shader because i realised MR couldnt mirror the normalmap even with tangent space settings. Pixero shader gave some freaky results with my rendersettings. But still it saved my day!

lycka till! :)
Thanks. wont win, just happy to even finish:thumbsup:
