The mouth is to gather the souls of the defeated enemies; and feed with them his ancient and decrepit flesh.

He will not tollerate the rise of the other breeds.
His flesh might be old, but it is full of the strength of thousands spirits.
His armour was forged in the flames that created the universe.
His mind was born when the ages was born.

He will prevail.

can't wait to see this one!

see you!

New concept. This time Karuhk is holding the Great Imperial Sceptre.

02-14-2007, 09:06 PM
I like the new concept a lot ... keep em coming!
I can feel how he will call the dead to help him.
I am glad we fight together. ;)

02-15-2007, 11:39 PM
some ideas
the second one (the sketch with the horns) is for the shoulders or maybe the chest armour.
I'm gathering forces to start the modelling...

02-16-2007, 04:46 PM
Awesome character...I cant wait to see this in 3d...cya

02-18-2007, 06:30 PM
fantastic start Sergio. Good luck!

02-22-2007, 04:20 AM
Latest update on the concept.
I'm not a good concept artist, but I've done my best to get my ideas into a 2D.
There are a couple of things that I'm thinking bout to change them, so let see how the model evolves. I'll start the modelling later this week.
Thanks for viewing!

Looks too similar to the concept art in the "art of guild wars: nightfall" book, you may want to explore some more variations before you begin modeling. I do like the theme on the leg plates and would like to see it repeated on the upperbody, especially the shoulder pads.

Could you post a link, because I've been looking for this art on the web, but I cannot find it.
Only this:

and it doesn't remind me very much my character.
could you be more specific?

Here's some Nighfall conceptart if want inspiration from there. If you scroll down you can find character concepts but remember to figure out your own concept :)

sorry, double post

There really never is 'new' concept art, it's really just the same few themes over and over again arranged in slightly different ways.
IT always amuses me when I hear people saying 'oh that bit looks like a bit from some other concept'
I challenge anyone to design something new, no part of which has ever been seen before.
It's very, very rare that you see a new paradigm, a totally new design language.

02-23-2007, 03:30 AM
I guess that there are some similarities...
but it's not the first concept of an ancient powerfull breed with armour, cape, sceptre and dark tones palette.
OK, maybe is not the most original thing ever... but we have seen this dark creatures since Lord Sidious (Star Wars Emperor).

I've seen that the rest of the entries have similarities, as well, with some art works that I've seen in the past years.

I've never played Guild Wars and I've never seen this book, so I think that all of us are influenced by the art works that we see and when we have to create something we just do what we like and remains in our minds.

anyway, I'll stay quite close to the concept, maybe i'll change something in the modelling or sculpting process (improvisation!).

nice link! very inspiring!

02-27-2007, 06:23 PM
doesnt look guildswar-ish to me in anyway except perhaps the techniques/treatment..and there's hardly anything wrong with that. Nice design--feels very old and outerworldly

02-27-2007, 07:34 PM

I recognized it almost instantly, good reference, but a little too close for comfort in my opinion, but do what you like its your entry =)

02-27-2007, 09:25 PM
oh wow, yea thats a little too close for comfort:) especailly the weapon and pose, but yea i would start chagning things up a little more.

02-27-2007, 10:24 PM
Definitely I have to change a few things…

But I’ll stay close to some of them, like the face, cape, sceptre, pieces of amour, glowing inside…

It’s a nice concept, but I don’t think that these things (cape, sceptre, pieces of amour, glowing inside…) belong to anybody. I think is a very common design and a very common pose.

Anyway, thanks to bring it up, I’ll try something different for a couple of things.

02-27-2007, 11:43 PM
check out the judges section of the dominance war, one of them is the art director and lead concept artist on guild wars so I'd be very careful if I were you. I know it is not my place to be telling you these things but why risk the consequences?

02-28-2007, 12:18 AM
I'll do another sketch from the front perspective with some different proportions because I want to make it stronger, but I hope that this doesn't bring me hulk's images. And if I do it more technological I hope not to find images from xmen...

There is always something similar.
I can see Sam Fisher from splinter cell all around and ppl don't change their concepts.

btw, I thought that the director/designer (or whatever) of Guild Wars was Feng Zhu... (at least at some point of the first release)

02-28-2007, 05:47 AM
I'm redrawing the concept.

First step, profile.

02-28-2007, 05:53 AM
I was planning to do another character, like a pet for the main character, but deadline is too close for that.

02-28-2007, 05:59 AM
In and Out!

from the back to the front... now you can see the souls that he has gather through the ages.

02-28-2007, 06:17 AM
I've finished the Hardcore modelling challenge so I have some time for DW2...

starting the modelling of the face:

02-28-2007, 06:53 AM
Close up of the face.
I like how things worked with the face, so I stay with this version.

02-28-2007, 12:49 PM
some repainted parts and some background.
I would probably do something different for the final pose.

03-19-2007, 11:50 PM
model for the upper part
high res and low res

03-20-2007, 03:19 AM
updating the highres

03-21-2007, 09:32 AM
Awesome anatomical detail!

HURRY UP and finish this thing!

03-21-2007, 10:18 AM
Looks sweet, hope you have the time to finish it up.

03-21-2007, 01:05 PM
It'll be finish by Sunday
I'm speeding up things, but Hardcore Modelling Challenge takes my time as well...

03-22-2007, 01:32 AM
The sacred imperial sceptre of the elders:

03-22-2007, 03:04 AM
adding some elements...

03-23-2007, 11:57 AM
merging things together...

03-23-2007, 02:20 PM
Really cool concept and execution! I like this character!

03-23-2007, 04:14 PM
That's a really good start, can't wait to see some textures on the guy and him posed. Know I'll be busy all weekend doing the same. Good Luck!

03-25-2007, 09:42 PM
Ambient Occlusion for High Res (HR is ready for baking)

no time to finish the rest, so I'll post the final model in the 3d still gallery when I finish it.
good luck everybody!

03-26-2007, 05:05 AM
looking great SS. he should be the new poster boy for the Ab-flex3000®! Good luck finishing up.
