In, good luck. CRUSH THEM!!

02 February 2007, 11:49 PM
crush we will, have no fear!

good to see you onboard jesse ; )

02 February 2007, 01:09 AM
Sup J, glad to see you on the team.

02 February 2007, 01:42 AM
Heyas Bonze - Good luck to you man. Already have a concept, a mile ahead of most

Heyas G. Long time no chat.

Quick doodle to try to come up with ideas. Sorry there are going to be a lot of these ugly little things.

02 February 2007, 04:26 AM
Trying a mask idea

02 February 2007, 01:02 AM
A few more doodles.

02 February 2007, 04:12 AM
another doodle

02 February 2007, 05:19 AM
i'm diggin it!

i really like the whole tyranid thing that your doing :)
keep going mate your trucking on nicely indeed

02 February 2007, 11:58 AM
Your last concept is looking badass. You should make him be able to spit acid that corrodes metal or something. Just an idea as bone weapinry may not be the best against 3DTotal's robots.:)

02 February 2007, 12:04 PM
intersting concepts make for a nice start, i like those crusader like helmets :)
good fun :)

02 February 2007, 11:49 PM
FaR-SeeR - Thanks. I had to look up what a tyranid was.

Cyborgguineapig - Good point. Bones VS Metal for the loss

tastatura - Thanks

Another idea, I fear too close to GOW's Theron guards though.

02 February 2007, 12:24 AM
heh, had to google theron guard, although it was mainly pictures of charlize theron that appeared. not that i'm complaining, of course.. just haven't played GOW yet : /

concept looks great though, definitely some parts that are a step in the right direction for me, the torso design especially!

02 February 2007, 02:09 AM
got some nice masks there dude, good luck!

02 February 2007, 02:58 AM
Cool concepts you've got going on J, I'm liking the looks of this latest one.

02 February 2007, 03:03 AM
why do i get the feeling that some oen or some thing is goint to lost they face to face got eaten or bite off.

02 February 2007, 03:16 AM
Cool concept looking forward to it :)

02 February 2007, 04:44 PM
bonzepeet - Thanks. Glad I could take you on a Theron Tour :P

adamlane - Thanks, going to try some other ideas out today

G - :)

Revliss - Yeah, I think he might devour his enemies some

tin-tin - Thanks

Sadly I fear this is probably too close to Gears and I need to deviate or go another route. I will try some ideas today if I have time. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

02 February 2007, 05:09 PM
Really cool concept, no critiques, can't wait to see more stuff.

02 February 2007, 06:37 PM
nice designs, but i have to agree with you, the last one does look a lot like a theron guard

02 February 2007, 10:38 PM
More of a beast route

02 February 2007, 04:22 AM
More of the same

02 February 2007, 08:27 AM
I like #4 and #6. I like the horn on #6 the best and like how both have slightly lowered eyes making them more intimidating.

02 February 2007, 11:04 AM
i like #6 . the rest are too manga for me. :)

02 February 2007, 11:17 AM
i have to agree, number 6 is the best one, especially i like the lower jaw armour/bone thingy

02 February 2007, 11:51 AM
the beast head shure is nice idea, it will be nice to evolve it, all the heads from No1 to no6 are fine they follow nice style (yes some may look like manga, but thats not bad ), by my POV i think that #1 and #5 are a nice star, may be try to make the horn to be a part of the cranium, make it rip the skin on the mid top of the head on a few places like a spine, i think it will improve the design, it won;t look like the horn is just stuck there...but like it has grown up recently and still can be seen the dmg on the local skin from where it developed
w8ing for update mate :)

02 February 2007, 11:23 PM
Thanks for the comments

Cyborgguineapig - Thanks, good points

nikudy - I am not really familier with Manga, I mean I know what it is but I shall assume that is not a good thing.

Seebaer - Thanks

tastatura - Yeah that is a great idea and sort of what I was trying to convey, but alas I failed. I wanted it to be poking out here and there at the base. I shall try to make that more obvious.

Here is the direction I am thinking about taking this but I am going to explore some other ideas before I go too far down this road.

02 February 2007, 11:32 PM
Well hopefully my posts get okayed by the admins. My idea is a Rhino Liche and is similar to yours albeit mine is stocky and undead =) My nose horn is not going to be as pronounced as yours. Maybe a third of your's length.

The head you picked out is the one that stands out to me. Its a great concept. I cant wait to see what weapons you are going to make.

02 February 2007, 11:43 PM
hey jbrophy,

This concept is looking so sweet! I really dig the different head designs you did and I feel #4 the one you picked was the best although I really liked #6 also. Maybe if you add a slight spike on the back of his head like #6... LoL! I am begging for the spike. Looks really good though and I can't wait to see this thing progress!! Good work!

02 February 2007, 04:45 AM
djolar - Thanks, best of luck with yours.

EvilBlah - Thanks...trying some more ideas out.

02 February 2007, 04:52 PM
Cool! Its got a very magma golem vibe to it.

02 February 2007, 05:03 PM
djolar - thanks

Some more doodles. I need to abduct a good concept artist and chain him up in the basement. I am so very not good at this but time is ticking away so I need to get modeling soon.

02 February 2007, 05:31 PM
Don't seel yourself short, dude. I think it's looking awesome. I like the looks of C and E...The helmet looks pretty cool. Kind of creepy.

02 February 2007, 11:02 PM
dude, C is awesome!

they all look good though, but seriously - C's shoulder armor is so badass

02 February 2007, 04:37 AM
G - Thanks man, just so far from what the good ones can do

dpizzle - Thanks, not sure which way I am going to go but I appreciate the thoughts

Some messing around with a helmet idea

02 February 2007, 10:02 PM
Started doodling the jawline at lunch today. Sadly not very inventive. I have a bunch of armor drawings I like but I did them on paper so nothing to show.

Time to start modeling.

02 February 2007, 10:23 PM
I really like the new yawline a lot ... much better than the first concept with the mouth open.

02 February 2007, 10:43 PM
Its starting to come together.....

02 February 2007, 10:50 PM
Looking very sweet man, it's looking pretty evil. I like the new jaw, can't wait to see more.

02 February 2007, 02:22 AM
awesome...his mouth reminds me of doomsday

02 February 2007, 03:12 AM
good going .I liked the character. would b following ur thread.

02 February 2007, 06:24 AM
ChrRambow - Thanks :)

Airflow - Slowly, I think if I had 6 years for the contest I might get something good

Gavin_G - Thanks man

dpizzle - Thanks, for some reason I can't view the link

CUBISIS - Thanks.

Here is where I am at detailing the armor. I apologize to anyone who is a concept artist, has worked with a concept artist or has passed by one on the street as I am butchering their art form.

02 February 2007, 03:10 PM
No, looks good... Id say keep the teeth and the suit, maybey take your dragon face and make it more bulldog like, kinda like the helldogs in ghostbusters, somthing short and mean...

02 February 2007, 06:15 PM
hhmm...that could look pretty cool.

02 February 2007, 06:54 AM
Started working on the arm bracer. This is my medium res model just to flesh out masses that I then use to create the high res model for normal mapping.

02 February 2007, 05:07 PM
Looks cool man, Realy nice start to the modeling.

02 February 2007, 10:40 PM
Thanks G

Started blocking in the hand and arm.

02 February 2007, 06:36 AM

02 February 2007, 05:03 AM
More polies

02 February 2007, 05:19 AM
hot so far man, keep on truckin'

02 February 2007, 10:14 AM
Armour is lookin awesome dude, i cant wait to see how you go with the organic parts :)

02 February 2007, 12:07 AM
Yuo, its got a nice quake feel to it...

02 February 2007, 01:02 AM
G - Thanks

adamlane - saving them for last. I always do organic first so I am doing something new

Airflow - thanks

Added boots and did some tweaking. The knees look a little knocked from the front view but it is an illusion from the skirt somehow.

02 February 2007, 04:50 AM
hey man, just stopping by to check out your progress and DANG!! you are doing some great stuff! I really dig what you have so far! the only crit I have is on the part that you haven't really done much on... LOL! I think the head is a little to small for the torso... like the head is too skinny for the torso... uh, ya... that's pretty much it. looking great! keep it up!!

03 March 2007, 05:09 AM
EvilBlah -Thanks. Yeah the head needs more loving and shall get it soon.

03 March 2007, 05:20 AM
Hi all

Well unless there are any major crits I think I am going to call the mid level done. Don't worry, I can take it :P

03 March 2007, 06:11 AM
Bad ass, mid level looks awesome man. Nice work.

03 March 2007, 06:57 AM
Nice work my friend. Doing very well with the details thus far. Good luck with the rest of it.

03 March 2007, 05:15 PM
G - thanks man, yours too :)

caseofChill - Thanks

I did some tweaking and did a quick rotation render. I think I might add a couple bags and maybe cloth to the back. Then get my hi res on

03 March 2007, 07:49 PM
Great progress ... i like the amount of details you got.
Cannot wait to see how you will do all the details in the lowpoly version.

03 March 2007, 07:34 PM
amazing modeling *jaw drops*

03 March 2007, 10:38 AM
CG society one and two this year 4 sure! :):)

Gav G and of course your stunning piece are standouts to me.
Keep up the smooth work, hoping to see some more updates real soon.

03 March 2007, 02:28 AM
thats lookin pretty gnarly! i think ours could be on a team! haha

03 March 2007, 06:49 AM
really digging those gauntlets! a lot! nice job.
that tasset's pretty long though. if things get heavy, it could be a tripping hazard :D just fooling. keep up the good work

03 March 2007, 08:15 AM
G - Thanks. Starting on the high

caseofchill - Thanks. Lots to do and so little time

su - Appreciated

SeeR - Wow thanks. I think clearly Gav's is ahead of mine. There is some amazing work coming out of this contest.

veedubb - Thanks. I was just looking at yours, I should have commented. Looking badass

ill_logic - How funny would that be, he comes in ready to rick and trips. Oh my

Starting to smooth out some of the metal and add damage and more details here and there. So far I have just done some of the chest armor area. Still not sure about the straps and the bar going over the shoulder pad, this will probably go soon. Also the cloths on the back are just an idea. Still not sure what is going to happen there, or the head for that matter. Thanks for the crits.

03 March 2007, 08:56 AM
More smoothed modeling and the beginning of a head test.

03 March 2007, 04:41 PM
JBrophy Wins!......Fatality.

Looks cool dude

03 March 2007, 08:28 PM
this is looking really nice.. only thing that bus me is the with of the toe area of the boot.almsot there :)

03 March 2007, 07:05 AM
G - hehe, thanks. Far from it though I fear

onelung - thanks. What bothers you about the toes?

Bout 80% done with the high poly not counting the head. Trying out a helmet idea. Thanks for the comments. Clock is ticking away fast. Good luck all.

03 March 2007, 10:25 AM
My jaw literally dropped when I saw this. Wonderful wonderful wonderful entry!!

03 March 2007, 11:31 AM
The helmet looks much better than the horns. Nice work!

- me

03 March 2007, 12:55 PM
chunky stuff..this looks awesome, looking forward to seeing more

03 March 2007, 05:34 PM
mitchelhunt - Thanks

sanhueza - agreed

Stefan-Morrell - THanks, more coming

Everything is done except the head, helmet, belt and cloth. Hoping to finish them this weekend.

03 March 2007, 08:27 PM
you better start texturing dude, you have way more detail than me and im freakin out!

03 March 2007, 01:12 AM
Nicely detailed!

03 March 2007, 11:03 PM
veedubb - Yeah, even with the deadline it will be tough as I am going on vacation for a week.

monkeyCorn - Thanks

Nothing to really show right now, just checkin my thread. All the high poly is done on my guy but the head and helmet now. I need to make a decision and go with it. I also have modeled and unwrapped the low poly but the head.

Also I did a quick render of the boot with the ripped normal,/diffuse/specular and AO map at 512.

03 March 2007, 12:00 AM
wow you got a lot of nice detail modeling. for crits i think the overall proportion is off. everything looks little rigid. the shape of the feet for example looks little too box like and its hard to set right foot apart from left. from the screenshot i can see 3 faces side by side in almost same plane. hope that helps.

03 March 2007, 05:08 AM
mashru - Yeah I totally see what you are saying. I am hoping once I rip my maps I can do a little fudging of the low poly model without too much distortion. Thanks

Well I am calling the high poly done. The head could be better but I have to move on. Weighing in at a mere 3.4 million polies it is time to move on. Thanks for all the hard crits and the nice words. Time to get my ripping and painting on.

03 March 2007, 05:33 AM
Nice man, I agree with you about the head, but overall nice job, keep it up!

03 March 2007, 11:52 AM
holy mother of... this is more than awesome!

03 March 2007, 02:35 PM
I shall not comment on your modeling skills, as I am jealous of it. :D

I think you should keep the head without the helmet. Might detracts from the face which currently is rather amazing. Great work and show us your textures :D

03 March 2007, 02:57 PM
Wonderful modeling  ... I really like the head as it already is ...
and i would keep the head without helmet too.

03 March 2007, 04:45 PM
I'd hit it. Seriously.

Nice modeling dude, already told you, just wanted to have it written in history for all time.

03 March 2007, 08:52 AM
RedFish - Thanks

Miezis - Much appreciated

Yung - Thanks. Just need to rip the head and then I start texturing

ChrRambow - Thanks

Gavin_G - Thanks G

Well Ihave ripped the maps for the body. These are DX viewport max shaders that allow me to see the results in real time. Need to finish the head up and then I can finally start texturing. Thanks for all the crits and comments. Finish strong everyone. We must DEFEAT THEM!!

03 March 2007, 11:40 AM
That is looking very delicious!

03 March 2007, 11:22 PM
ChrRambow - Thanks :)

Some quick texture testing at lunch today

03 March 2007, 12:05 AM
looking really nice.
some variation in the specular would help it.

keep it up.
we must crush them !

03 March 2007, 01:00 AM
yeah that's looking good. Keep it up.

03 March 2007, 07:06 AM
Sick detail! Gears of War ain't got nothin' on you!

Just curious...whats under the cloth?

03 March 2007, 05:20 PM
This character is absolutely amazing!

03 March 2007, 05:22 PM
Looks amazing man, the detail really came through on the normal map and it looks very cool. Once this guy gets fully textured, all the girls will be after you.

03 March 2007, 08:39 PM

In, good luck. CRUSH THEM!!

Your guy is coming out great! How did you get soft lighting in these renders, while keeping the normal detail?
Looking good!

03 March 2007, 05:28 PM
nikudy - Thanks. Yeah I have not worked the specular at all yet, hopefully it will help.

ColdKodiak - Thanks

AndrewBina - Haha, the gears stuff destroys me, but I appreciate the compliment. Armor of course :P

medunecer - Thanks :)

Gavin_G - HAhaha, my wife won't like that

Did some more texturing work on the armor. Added the head. No tetxure work on the skin or the cloth yet. These are just DX viewport captures so no shadows yet. Thanks for the crits

03 March 2007, 10:31 PM
Nice Job so far man, keep it up and you just might win!

03 March 2007, 11:15 PM
Redfish - Thanks but I fear a win is a big stretch. Too many damn good models in this competition.

MonkeyCorn - Sorry forgot to answer you. The soft shadows were created with an Ambient Occlusion map and multiplied over my diffuse texture in Photoshop.

I did a max render with some shadows. So far I have only worked on the diffuse texture, specular and normal are untouched as well as the cloth and skin.

03 March 2007, 12:03 AM
That looks very hot man. You win. What kind of lighting setup do you have? I'm trying out some basic three point..might go for something different.

03 March 2007, 02:44 AM
looking cool!
I think he just needs some values pushing in his armour, they read a little flat

03 March 2007, 09:11 AM
Absolutely amazing!

03 March 2007, 08:20 AM
Gavin_G - Thanks

TimAppleby - Thanks, workin on it

medunecer - :)

More texture work and some rigging completed

03 March 2007, 06:32 PM
Lots to finish today

03 March 2007, 10:46 PM
Character done

Off to make a stand and maybe a weapon

03 March 2007, 10:48 PM
Beautiful man, glad to see it done. Good luck with the judging :)

03 March 2007, 02:58 PM
Like the level of detail, good job on the model!

03 March 2007, 01:10 AM
G - Thanks. You too

RedFish - Thanks. I feel I was getting too busy so I pulled some of it back

My submissions

Final Pose

03 March 2007, 03:01 AM
Awesome! Turned out great! He's a definite contender.

03 March 2007, 07:27 AM
Agreed, a definite contender. That weapon is frigin' brutal.

03 March 2007, 07:30 AM
freakin sh*t! He is looking  ... i am glad to fight on your side. :applause:

03 March 2007, 08:12 AM
Great work! Though I wish you have given him a more expressive pose. Good luck in the judging!
