I guess Im kind of new around here. Been following the progress so far, and thinking about joining. Well Im in, and I plan on doing Perseus holding Medusa's head and the Kraken turning to stone as a diorama. I'm gonna do game specs, low poly with normal and spec maps. Heres are the limits I'm giving myself as far as poly counts:
Perseus - 2500 tris max
Medusa head - 1500 tris max
Kraken - 5000 tris max
Environment - Unsure
I started Medusa's head today and here's the progress.

Yea nice choice there mookster, though might be quite a lot to get finished in time! Good start on medusas head, keep it up.

Thanks Cameo. Yeah Im sure I can finish, but my biggest obstacle will probably be the texture work.
Started the Kraken:
Ill probably go back to medusa and complete her before continuing with this.

Hey the Kraken looks sweet! Especially the face, you've really nailed it. Can't wait to see the final versions.

Nice work, digging the medusa head, might want to tweak the mouth though, the game specs approach is actually a good way for making a diorama, you've nailed that kraken character as well, keep it up man.

Justame2002: Thanks, I wanted to use the game specs to beef up my portfolio with more game art. I wanna try and actually have the final image render from a game engine, but getting the 1600 x 1400 is gonna be hard unless I find someone who's rig is more capable.

Lo Wip. Tri count 3369, snakes nowhere near optimized.
Got frustrated with medusas snakes though, so i jumped to perseus. He needs bigger hair. Tri count 3109

So far Im above my original spec plans, Ill wait till the wips are more complete before I start cutting back.

Some excellent looking stuff. I always envisioned medusa's head to be a bit problematic.

I was able to do a little more with medusa, but not enough to show here. Started sculpting the kraken, Im happy how the face turned out.

Heres my progress on the kraken. Lo poly with normal maps.
Im gonna keep telling myself I can finish by the 28th.:D

Wicked..... well i think your best bet would be to complete one model at a time mate, rather than trying to do all at the same time... at least that way you'll have something to enter....
Plus you can alwasy complete the unfinished models at a later date and have them for your reel. better to have one great finsihed model then 5 rushed jobs, if you know what i mean.
its looking great so far mate though, my only crit would be the arms look very tube like, there doesn't seem to be much differntces to the shape from upper to lower arm.

Keep going with it Mookster, and I would echo Eddies comments, if you concentrate on one for now you can always move onto the other if you finish in time. Besides, just because the challenge finishes it doesnt mean that you cant continue working on it for your own means.
The face looks the same as my previous post and I still think it looks spot on. I would agree with Eddie that the arms are the main area which need attention so I would concentrate on that Mookster.

Hi Mate, me again, just looked at the film and the arms look very tube look in that too.... so scratch my eariler comments on the arms...
