View Full Version : Alone in the dark
01 January 2007, 11:08 AM
Together with a friend we started a short animation. He will take care of the animation of a small flying-walking robot while I will take care of the models, texturing and lights.
Here I will post now a rendered frame from the animaiton. It's more like a test, as i am still dealing with the lights.
More informations and renders will come soon.

another perspective and some small changes of the light.
01 January 2007, 07:51 AM
adding more objects.
01 January 2007, 09:28 AM
I created one of those 2 robots that will finally apppear in this short. I will tell later why I needed a second robot.

Hmmm... interesting concept, we want to see more...:applause:
Keep it up...
I'll look forward for progress.

I have to find the solution for tha hands, to be very easy to work with them.

really superb man keep it up....

I made a rendering test in order to find out what would be the rendering time for one frame at production resolution. And I found out. It's around 35 min/frame.
02 February 2007, 02:55 PM
I will cut right on the subject. The ground looks a little bit unrealistic.Maybe you could add some textures. But you are on the right way.Keep it going.
02 February 2007, 04:04 PM
Maybe you're right. There is a sort of cement shader but maybe I should increase the value of the bump and add another layer shader with a fractal or something to give the illusion of a wet and dirt surface. Thanks for suggestion.

I am not an animator but I am learning. So here a good friend of mine, helped me in tweaking some positions, moves etc.
Here is the first playblast. Of course it's WIP. Critics are more than welcomed.
02 February 2007, 09:40 PM
First of all you don't have to excuse yourself, we are all learning here.
Yes the blast is ok, the little fellow it's funny.
I like the animation, I believe more will come...
Regarding the rendering time... 35 min/frame... hmmm... I think it's a little too much.
Try to revise the scene and optimize it (get rid of unnecessary faces at polygons, lower your texture resolution, tec...)
Good look

Very interesting but i think that the jump section,it's to equal...try to modify the timing a bit. When the arcs goes down with the robot...slow in,and after this, fast, release the tension of the arcs.Repeat this when the robots reach the higher point in the air, when he lose the energy...slow in,and after this make a faster fall. It's quite like a basic ball.Nice test, although.

So, this weekend i finnished animating all the shots I needed for this animation. In maximum 2 hours I will place here the entire animation made of playblast and during this week I will make the finnal djustments of the animation. So, i will invite all those who can help me change the mistakes i made in the animation, to give me thier suggestion and useful advices. It can also includes the changes in the camera motion, maybe suggestions concerning the environment, etc.
so, see u soon and thanks in advance.

So, below I put a link from where you can download the playblast of the animation. There are a few places (especially at the end of the animation) where some frames must last longer, depending on the soundtrack. but i am sure there are a lot of thing that can also be changed. These mistakes were made because I am not an experienced animator but I am trying to learn. In this case I would be more than happy to hear your indications and I will make thoise changes.
