I'm modeling a soda can in maya. Is there an easy way to deform it to look crushed?

Well if your modeling a crushed soda can it would be easier to probably model it crushed. Rather than model it uncrushed then use deformers and the scale tool to crush it but for texturing it may be easier to model it as an uncrushed can get it all textured and looking nice then use the scale tool to grab the edge loops around its body and scale them individually in ward and then use the move tool to move the edge loops around a little then scale the whole can in the y direction.

You may create the can and scale it (vertically) so it gets as high as a crushed one. Then you apply a displacement map: A mix of a ramp (several stripes) and noise.
Or, if you find a plugin for Soft-Selection you select the dsitant stripes and scale them out.

That is only one way to make it look crushed. There are several ways to crush a can. Which one do you want to have?

Model your can, then make a duplicate of your can and using the artisan tools crush it with scultp Poly/Nurbs tool. Then refine by pulling vertices. Using Blendshapes you can create the animation needed to crush the can in and animation.
